5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
A great story about a marine and the dog he learned to love.No one really knows what goes on in this war; this book gives the reader a perspective that the media has left out.On top of that, a book for all dog lovers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" Regardless of your views on the war in Iraq
This is a heartwarming story that places the reader in war-torn Iraq with the US military trying to complete their mission. It is told in such a way that you can't put it down, and you feel thast you are there with them, and are living the story as it unfolds. It also makes it easy to understand how the "Lava Dogs" receive comfort in caring for a puppy amid the horror around them. The book makes NO judgements about the war or the US presence in Iraq being right or wrong, and no matter what the reader's views on the war are (or even if the reader is a dog owner/lover), this is a heartwarming story about the bond between a soldier and a dog during adverse times for both of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Mysterious ways of DoG
A Good Dog -- A story about Orson, who changed my life" by John Katz, is an incredible read, a true love story between human and animal -- bridging the gaps between belief and unbelief.
1-0 out of 5 stars used to be a big fan.
very upset about jons latest book.it really is just a rehash of his past books and not to his usal standard.there are dog people who specialize in dogs that bite why not consult one of them instead of a witch doctor?to do what he did must have been very very hard, and hurt very much .i was a huge fan ,read all his other dog books, this ones a big let down.

1-0 out of 5 stars Devon redux
I looked forward to reading this book; waited through several holds at the library; read all the other "dog" books by Jon Katz. When I started A Good Dog, the story seemed familiar...then I realized that Orson is Devon from a previous book.Very disappointing.Glad that I did not purchase the book. If Mr. Katz needed to address his issues with Devon, he should not do it at the expense (emotional and economic) of his readers. ... Read more

This book is a major tribute to all K9 Search/Recovery Teams throughout the world and to the many long, long hours of training and hard work preparing for such a grueling service. The content brings forward the various personalities; human and K9 which make a dedicated team who give 120 percent to the community; "bringingthose lost home to their loved ones".It's through the eyes and ears of great authors that the public becomes increasingly aware of the many facets in the lives of K9 search teams. 5-0 out of 5 stars Slow, blissful tears....
I was afraid to order this book at first because I am such a huge animal lover and get very distressed when I hear stories about animals who have been abused or abandoned. I literally get nightmares when I read about animals who are suffering and I wasn't sure if this book would be more upsetting then pleasurable since I knew many of the dogs would have tragic tales before adoption. My experience with this book: got it today, sat down on the sofa with it and simply could not put it down. I read every story and even though many of them were tragic they really didn't dwell on the horrific past in a way that made me uncomfortable. I did cry but they were slow, blissful tears that often melted into the edges of an unforseen smile. These stories are some of the most uplifting, gorgeous stories I have ever read and the photos that accompany them are beautiful, often spontaneous portraits of owners embracing their saved animals. In every furry face you can see the joy and the gratitude and the extinguished pain. They are saved and they are home and it burns your eyes and warms your heart and leaves you shivering in goose pimples. I am SO glad I decided to order this book! It's a must have for anyone who loves dogs.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Heartfelt Story, but -
"Mostly Bob" is the heartfelt story about how a mangy, anti-social, and neglected neighbor's dog adopted the author upon the death of his own dog - Bubba.First Bob just came over for a few minutes, then he began staying - without encouragement or food.Bob would go home at 6 P.M. for his dinner bowl, and return at 6:05.After awhile Bob began following the author (Tom), and lie down outside the door nearest Tom.Then Bobbegan enjoying petting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Godiva chocolate
I found this book at Menard's, of all places, but bought it through Amazon. I had no expectations beyond the title, subtitle and a sense that it was a good read. It was a Good Read! Thoroughly satisfying. Read it also with no expectations and savor each chapter like a Godiva chocolate. U'mmm!

5-0 out of 5 stars A man who knows his Dogs
I thought this was a great book that showed how much he loved his dogs. I have read every book he has written about his dogs, and this book just gets better each page. I loved it. I thought that this was the best book I have read in a long time. I shows how much he loves his dogs, even to the extent of giving one up. This book was amazing and I would recommend it for anybody, especially the dog lovers.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great read!
I was given this book as a Christmas gift by a dear friend and enjoyed every minute of it. It's a heartwarming story of a man and his animals, and some of the lessons he learns from them. As I read the story it was obvious how much the author depends on his animals to meet emotional needs as much as they depend on him for food and shelter. If all animals were cared for and treated with as much respect as this man has for his animals, the world would be a much better place. For the most part, this is a light-hearted book and I highly recommend! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You too can have a well behaved happy dog!
This book is an excellent introduction to the world of dogs and how they impact on our lives. As a pet therapy partner with my dog, Coco, I recommend this book to everyone who is involved with their pets and what to have some real insight into their animals' behavior and needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars K-9 simplicity
A delightful pictorial of how dogs of all ages and breeds can teach us the basic and simple lessons in life. Each picture is accompanied by a telling phrase that gets the message across. The table of contents includes such subjects as Health, Self Esteem, and Day-to-Day living. In the end the author sums it up with a smiling golden lab with a lolling yet perfect pink tongue, below him is the inscription, "Life is, on the whole, pretty doggone good". That just about says it all.4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and heartwarming little book
Excellent photography combines with pithy phrases to create a collection of wisdoms shared by anyone who has lost his or her heart to a dog. Just over 100 pages are devoted to sections "On Health," "On Self-Esteem," "On Interacting With Others," "On Self-Improvement," and "On Day-to-Day Living." And what words of wisdom these are! Those who DON'T own dogs would do well to pull this book out now and then to gain some perspective on the things that really are important in life, scaled down to essential simplicity. A ridiculous little dog with fangs bared is captioned, "If you are mean, people will try to avoid you." Break out this book when the mean, fang-baring people of the world get you down. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best I Have Read On This Subject
Marta Williams has done an excellent job of organizing, presenting and providing scientific back-up for her information, where appropriate. She is a teacher in the true sense of the word and patiently guides students through all the pitfalls of negative mind traps, suggesting methods to overcome initial fears of failure.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Learning Tool
I just finished Learning Their Language, and am getting ready to re-read it, highlighter in hand. It is that good, if your goal is to gain expertise in animal communication. I began with Carol Gurney's book, The Language of Animals, which I felt was a good starter book. It sort of primes the reader for this book. Learning Their Language was extremely well written for use as a text book/learning tool (which is the reason I wanted it in the first place) using a good combination of Ms. Williams own experiences, the experiences of her students, and liberal "homework" assignments.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!!!
Once I read the first chapter of the psychotic bunny and began reading about the second chapter of a neurotic parrot, I was hooked. The second and third chapters were especially laugh-out-loudable, when Bob is describing the parrots and parakeets that his wife convinces him to get. This story somehow reminds me of what I did to my own husband, only instead of birds it was cats he was enslaved by until I rescued his manhood and adopted two dogs from the shelter.
5-0 out of 5 stars True life is stranger than fiction
When I first started this book, I didn't realize it was true.It read like a fabulous novel. The animal stories are amazing.Whether you are an animal lover or not, you will get captured by this engaging tale. It is very well written and flows smoothly though it has many little stories within.I loved how it gave you a chance to know each animal.I didn't want the book to end, but I loved the ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Way to Spend a Few Summer Days
I grabbed this off the shelf of my local independent bookstore, and was surprised to see the author lived in my state. Then I was even more shocked when I realized the author lived in my dad's hometown a short ways from my house! I was thrilled to be able to read the book and recognize all the landmarks and place settings. It was really refreshing.

I love this book and I often re-read it.Funny and clever writing.Easy to relate to and written with heart!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope for those who have suffered a loss
Parents, like all humans, are imperfect. When they die, we sometimes recall events, actions, and issues that make us question why we may have ever thought they loved us.Pets, on the other hand, come with no strings attached. They love unconditionally and are a source of joy that is boundless.Geneen covers losing both in the funny and touching book, which may offer healing and hope for those who have lost either.

4-0 out of 5 stars Angel Cats: Divine Messengers of Comfort
This book has some great stories which are heart warming and meaningful for the soul. These stories are way for people to see that animals can truly love there human. I would give this book out for gift to people who are lonely and think that nobody can love them.

5-0 out of 5 stars COMFORT FOR THE CAT LOVER'S SOUL
In these uncertain and harrowing times, those of us who share life with cats have the advantage of being able to reach out and touch softness, comfort, unconditional love and loyalty whenever we stroke our cats.ANGEL CATS: DIVINE MESSENGERS OF COMFORT by Allen Anderson is a prosaic comforter and provides much-needed balm for the soul by illuminating stories of cats' singular love for their chosen humans, each other, and other living beings.I heartily recommend this book for all cat lovers, most especially those who wish to understand their relationships to their cats on a spiritual level, and for all who look forward to meeting beloved feline family members "at the Rainbow Bridge" and beyond.

Please read my review for Buck's book "The Faraway Horses," and read that book before you read "Believe." I can't say enough good things about Buck-- his way has truly changed my life. This book has the added dimension of having every other chapter be a true account from individuals whose lives have been changed and affected for the better by learning about Buck's way. 5-0 out of 5 stars One Person
'Mom, do you have any good books I can read? Maybe one about animals?' I asked my mom one day when I was bored. When my mom handed me this book, about a year ago, I didn't know what to expect. I read the first chapter and was hooked. The author is so dedicated to animals and has experienced so much, it's hard to put the book down. I think it only took me a few days to read it and I just finished reading it for a second time. Thisis a book that makes you want to go and make a difference in the world. It makes you realize how much the news doesn't talk about animals in a disaster. When I graduate collage, I want to become an animal disaster volunteer. Right now I'm only 14 so I have a few years but, while I wait it's nice to know there are people like Terri Crisp making a difference in the animal world. Before I read this book I didn't think I could make much of a differance, after reading this book, I've learned how much of a difference one person can make.

5-0 out of 5 stars South Florida dog mother
Ms. Crisp's dedication to all animals in distress is an inspiration for anyone who cares about the living creatures that share our planet with us.Having survived back to back hurricanes in south Florida; I know that even a small amount of time/money spent helping the often overlooked animal victims is precious and greatly appreciated.Thank you Terry!

If you enjoy dogs, you will enjoy this book.It is a perfect book to have by your bed to read a few essays, savoring them, before drifting off to sleep. The essays are well written, in different styles, some humerous, some sad, all enjoyable.I have bought several as gifts for fellow dog lovers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I didn't quite know if I was going to make it through this book. Through about the first 8-9 stories, I kept on crying.I was thinking "This is ridiculous. I can't read one doggone story without crying after I read it." I kept thinking of my dog, Shep, who died a couple years ago at the age of 91 and how badly I want another dog. There is a dog beach by my house so usually everytime I see a dog, Shep pops up to mind.I pretty much had sunglasses on when I read this book in public so people wouldn't think I was completely crazy. Somewhere towards the middle, I hardened up and was ready to read this book without blinking a thousand times.
5-0 out of 5 stars Warm and fuzzy
Most of the series of 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' has the kind of warm and fuzzy story that many find endearing and sweet. They are not 'deep' most of the time, but do point to things beyond themselves; for my own use, I often find sermon illustrations and stories within the pages of volumes of Chicken Soup -- as chaplain at a retirement centre, many of the stories help people to recall happier times, and help them deal with their present situation.5-0 out of 5 stars Warm and fuzzy
