Cats De-Mystified!
As a pet care columnist and behavior consultant, I've fielded my share of similar purr-snickety questions. After co-authoring two "Chicken Soup" pet books with Dr. Marty Becker, I'm jealous that my friend Gina Spadafori had the fun this time around. And I only hope my answers offer as much insight and entertainment as my colleagues' in this delightful "uncensored" cat-alogue of all-things feline! While some questions may seem tongue-in-furry-cheek, and the answers tickle feline funnybones, the bottom line means more edu-tainment for cat-loving readers. And that's just plain good medicine for kitty-cats and the humans who love them. Bravo!

Creative and Cute
Workman Publishing is famous for the "bad cat" calendars and the 365 Kittens a Year Calendar. If you love cats it is more than likely you have either seen these items or own them and buy them every year. You can even enter the Cat Calendar Contest and possibly see your very own cats in the calendar the following year. What a fun and inventive idea! This creates some of the best cat pictures you will find because of the wide variety of pictures to choose from each year.

An eye opening education into improving your pets quality of life
This book was recommended by my Aunt who owns a terrier breed. After following the advice in Dr. Pitcairn's book the change in her dog was amazing. His coat is no longer dark and oily but bright and shiny, small sores on his back are gone, his breathe is fresh and the energy that he displays makes him look like a puppy again.

My Pet Bible!
There is no better advice and help you can get than using this book.His first one I still have, the binding is gone and it is dog earred and the pages loose, but I have marks and all on it and use it all the time.I cannot recommend it more.This book will help you in helping your animals without the use of chemicals, antibiotics and drugs. A wonderful reference book for all cat owners!!
After continually receiving calls from family & friends who ask me to 'look up' something for them, this year I've begun giving this book as gifts to all my cat-loving friends & family.
Must Have Reference Book
This is a must have.I have the "Dog Owner's" version and refer to it regularly as my dogs age.I learned the hard way to question the vet and become familiar with their diagnosis.There are times when a second opinion is needed and this book has helped guide me in making that decision.It covers a variety of symptons and causes at a "lay-man's" level.It's not too technical but gives you an idea of when you should run to the vet or treat it at home.Every animal owner should have a medical reference book of some sort for their pets since their physiology is so different from ours and there are so many various diseases that only animals get.

Upsetting Pictures
I agree with most of the others who have talked about this book in terms of it's easy-to-read and informative nature.However, I found the pictures of sick kitties very upsetting and it makes it hard for me to use this book.The pictures seem like those you would find in a clinical textbook for someone in veterinary school and while others may find this helpful I wish they had excluded them since they do not seem completely necessary in order to understand the text.I would not have bought this book if I had known ahead of time that it included such graphic pictures.Anyone who is very sensitive to this like myself, be forwarned! ... Read this if you have more than one cat
This book made me see my cats in a new light. I originally picked it up because our first cat (Shadow) has never accepted our second cat (Parker), and it's not a passive kind of rejection unfortunately. Shadow was relentless in attacking Parker, and Parker could never relax while both cats were out and about in the house. We were planning a move, so I picked this book up thinking we could take advantage of the change in territory to give the cats a fresh start, and I'm very glad I read it. Every person with a cat in their family should read this! I actually developed more respect for their cat-ness because of this book.
Every cat owner (or everyone owned by a cat) should have this book!
The "HOW-TO BOOK FOR MULTIPLE CAT OWNERS!"This book has lots of valuable information for the multiple cat owner!I've had cats for 35 years and I wish I knew the helpful hints included in this book years ago.It is heartbreaking to hear of people who have to give up their newly adopted felines because they can't get along with the established household cats.This book will help prevent these types of problems.I have two eight-year-old cats and four two-year-old cats.This book is very helpful even now but I wish I had it when I adopted my four "newbies."It helps you understand how a cat thinks and why they react like they do in different situations. I haven't tried the feliway plug-in yet but I intend to.SUPER GREAT BOOK!

I wish I had created this book
I love the silly, sarcastic, even grotesque images and captions in Bad Cat. I laugh so hard I run to the toilet every time I read it and am obliged to stay there for the duration. Then I laugh so hard I'm afraid I will fall off the pot or have an aneurysm. Sorry, I know my description of my reaction is graphic, but this just might happen to you, too. Buy, beg or borrow this book if you can. When is the next one comiing out?

Great gift for a .......
Great gift for a ....... birthday, stocking stuffer, ect. for the cat lover in your life. I didn't have the chance to look through the book and wrapped it up as a gift for sister's birthday as soon as it came in. Well lets just say that when she started reading and showing the pictures in the book at her party, I laughed so hard I got a headache. Well worth the 10 bucks.

Invaluable practice reference
Nyland's Veterinary Diagnostic Ultrasound is an invaluable addition to my hospital library.I was initially introduced to this volume as a fourth-year Veterinary Student in Radiology/Ultrasound.After graduation,I made sure to purchase a personal copy for reference in private practice. It is filled with easy-to-understand illustrations of different imagingviews of the heart and abdominal organs.I recommend keeping a copy ofNyland within easy reach of the clinic ultrasound for quick-referenceduring scans.

If only cats followed the book--
If you're new to the animal, this reference book is certainly a start.And it's curiously complete in unexpected areas, such as what to do about those feral cats who show up in your garage, pull at your heartstrings, and become semi-permanent boarders.

The most used book on my shelf
Whenever I encounter a new disease, or need to refresh my memory about one I haven't seen lately, I reach for this book first.I find it to be concise, informative, and useful.While other medical texts make for good fireside or bedtime reading, this one cuts to the chase, and is useful in the midst of a busy veterinary schedule.

Great Resource
I got this book a couple of years ago on the advice of my mentor. This book has really helped me out in school(esp. in my Problem-Based Learning classes). It is pretty easy to understand, is very concise, and it includes many commmon and uncommon diseases of small animals. However, not all information about specific diseases is included. This resource should just be used as a starting point. The formulary is useful, as is the section about diagnostic test results. Raw Food Diet

Excellent Resource for Raw Food Nutrition
This book provides a straight-forward approach to a raw-food diet, and the changes required to maintain the health of your pet through the process.It also helps to have someone who can assist you in locating the ingredients locally, but Schultze provides all the requisite information that you will need.A great resource to go to when you get a nagging question, or have a concern.Try not to let people talk you out of trying the diet, as you WILL see changes in the health of your pet; many veterinarians that I have spoken with are not particularly supportive.My 2 y/o Lab has a softer coat, clearer eyes, and better muscle tone since I have started him on the diet.This diet is slightly more expensive than feeding dog chow, but the reward of having a healthy, happy pet far outweigh the associated costs.Good luck, and enjoy your pet!

excellent book for learning more about your pets and their nutrition and how to help them be healthy w/o a lot of allopathic intervention which sometimes does more to hurt than to help.

Wish I had this book years ago!
I have several books on natural healing and feeding of our pets. I started with an adopted puppy that was not doing well on any of the better commercial brands. This book has reinforced that I am doing the right things, and sadly I could have done more for my beloveds that I had before him. I am making sure that everyone in my family has a copy, as well as our veterinarians. If my current vet isn't willing to work with me, I will find another.

Great for the Coffee Table

This would have to be one of the funniest books.I love cats, I have two of them but they are not the right animal for a lot of people and this little book explains why.I loved it.

Being a cat lover - and the proud parent of 3 handicapped kitties - I gasped in delight when I came across CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE CAT LOVER'S SOUL. Way too difficult for anyone not deep into homeopathy
I was sadly misled by all these glowing reviews. You'd have to be a herbologist or a wizard from Hogwarts to make these remedies. It's annoying how they keep calling the dog or cat "your companion." And there was nothing in the index about spraying or behaviorial problems.

Good book. Fairly basic or moderate beginner level.
Nearly all you need to know
I purchased this book a few weeks ago and was very impressed with the simple way it was laid out.I have just ordered another 2 copies, because my holistic veterinary surgeon 'borrowed' the book and decided to keep it, and an animal naturopath also requested a copy.

Why can't human babies come with one of these??
Kittens for Dummies is quite simply one of the best books I've ever read.I'm glad I didn't get a copy from the library because the overdue fines would have bankrupted me!!!
A fast and easy read
One thing I like about the "for Dummies" format is their layout which makes information easy to find and quick to digest.In "Kittens for Dummies," the author, whose name I recognized from numerous cat articles in magazines like "Cat Fancy", writes from twenty years of experience in rescuing orphaned kittens.She gives a fair, two-sided argument (pros and cons both) about buying pedigreed kittens and dealing with reputable breeders.In particular, the sections on behavior problems and health issues were useful and up to date.Like other "for Dummies" books, the author filtered in plenty of humor.As a teacher, I've always found that humor helps make information easier to learn and remember.While the book doesn't contain information regarding obscure illnesses--by being obscure the disease isn't a likely event.That's what veterinarians are for besides. Being involved in rescue, I find this book to be an invaluable resource.
