5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
Great book, I have evaluated several saddles and now can pick up problems pretty quick.Great reference as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent info, comprehensive
This is the most comprehensive book on saddle fitting that I have ever read. Excellent info and very good diagrams and illustrations. Everything is clear and understandable, and there are tests you can do on your own horse to make sure his saddle fits correctly and to check for pain and/or pressure points. Even if you're horse isn't having back problems, this is an excellent resourse that every horse owner or enthusiast should read and use.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Equine Manual
The Equine Manual is one of the most comprehensive, practical resources to date - covering just about everything an equine practitioner might encounter in daily practice from infectious diseases to nutrition to the pre-purchase examination. It is an excellent quick reference resource while at the same time provides much more in depth information than similar type manuals of past. It is well organized and user friendly with excellent quick reference guides and differential tables. We agree with the other reviewers that the manual is a wonderful resource for veterinarians, veterinary students, and technicians alike.A must have for the clinic or the truck. ... Read more

For all you horse lovers out there who aren't quite satisifed with your present relationship with your horse despite all the training -- whether it be Natural Horsemanship or the usual "standard" approaches -- you'll find this book a great step up and out of the many current mindsets in horse training. In my view, you truly owe it to yourself and your horses to at least give this book a good read and really consider the Carolyn Resnick Method of training.I truly feel you will be glad you did and will learn things that will give you a better bonding and understanding of your horse(s).
5-0 out of 5 stars Good lessons AND a good read!
Finally, someone has written a book that addresses what is often lacking in most "Natural Horsemanship" training programs...the essential need for a horse to learn in an open, free environment. This important element is the basis for Ms. Resnick'sextremely useful approach to equine-human relationships.

4-0 out of 5 stars essential reading
This may be the best "how-to" books on riding I've read. The description of the rider's experience when things work, and when they don't, are true to my experience. And the key points at the end of each section sum things up nicely.I can't recommend this book highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book for all horse people
I absolutely adore this book. I got it for my birthday a while ago, and if I could only keep one of my horse books it would be this one. She recognizes that some people are "allergic" to Dressage and explains how it can help them. Personally I am a Western Pleasure person but I have found it to be a great help with my horses. I could also really see this being of great help even to gamers. Now I want all of Jane Savoie's books!

1-0 out of 5 stars Horse Miracles
This book is plagued with plagerism of already published stories. Most of the details regarding the stories about Ruffian and Secretariat are inaccurate, and they called Riva Ridge, "River Ridge". Very, very, very poorly researched and written. I do not advise anyone to buy this book. I was very disgusted with it. Also, they mention several times that horses are often sold for dog food, and apparently they did NO research on this little fact, HORSES HAVEN"T been used in dog food for nearly 30 years!!!! Perhaps they were trying to cover up for the slaughter industry which buys and slaughters horses for human consumption overseas. I couldn't even finish the book, I didn't trust any of the content as truthful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming!Inspirational !'neigh' other way to describe it
As a rider and having owned a horse I was so pleased to discover "HORSE MIRACLES". Brad Steiger and Sherry Hansen Steiger's newest delightful collection of true horse tales is an absolute lovelytribute to a long overlooked subject. It easily demonstrates the most noble and important role that horses can miraculously play in the lives of humans. I'm sure that every horse owner can identify with the Steiger's newest book. And if you have never owned a horse it gives a wonderful insight into the oft times ignored talents and sensitivity of these noble creatures. I've enjoyed all of the Steiger storys about other animal miracles but "HORSE MIRACLES" is just especiallyoutstanding! I justcould not put it down. And, as usual it is told through the Steigers ownspecial and creativeway of writing that lets you, as the reader 'see' and 'feel' the action in each story as it happens. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A quick and easy for horse owners to gain immediate access and insights
If only one comprehensive horse care 'bible' were to be chosen for a library, it should be the extensive and well-illustrated reference ALL HORSE SYSTEMS GO: THE HORSE OWNER'S FULL-COLOR VETERINARY CARE AND CONDITIONING RESOURCE FOR MODERN PERFORMANCE, SPORT AND PLEASURE HORSES. Written by a horse vet specialist, it packs in not only the anticipated horse care and health solutions chapters, but includes tips on fitness, conditioning, and much more. Small color photos throughout add interest but the meat is in the chapters of medical insights backed by a practicing vet's long-time experience: chapters which can save a horse's life whether consulted quickly in an emergency or used as preventative points. Over 600 pages of facts and a clear organizational structure makes it quick and easy for horse owners to gain immediate access and insights - or for library patrons to use it as an instant reference.
5-0 out of 5 stars This should be THE veterinary manual for horse owners.
How could it be this comprehensive? How can it be this beautiful?

4-0 out of 5 stars Horses and the Mystical Path : the Celtic Way of Expending the Human Soul
Offers a brief but interesting reflection on the spiritual development horses can offer to their human keepers and friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars Explore the unique relationship between horses and humans
Imagine a politically torn nation in which a rancher must rescue his beloved horses from the threat of approaching war. As he and his family prepare to flee in their trucks, he speaks heart-to-heart with his twenty-five year old stallion, begging the animal to follow the vehicles. The stallion goes to the herd, appears to communicate with its members, and they all seem to understand the dire situation. For three days they run, with little food or water, following the trucks. The trek is arduous, crossing high mountains to reach refuge in another country. They all arrive safely. With his task completed, the ageing stallion modestly accepts praise from the rancher, lies down and dies.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
Anyone who owns, breeds or cares for horses, this is a must have book.Dr. Lose V.M.D. is a very caring veterinarian who has helped me out tremendously!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book with it's own opinions
This book focuses almost exclusively on the foal. Dr. Lose has written another book, Blessed are the Brood mares, to cover the mare half of foaling. I enjoyed this book, but found it a bit spare on the actuallyfoaling procedure. It extensively covers diseases and illnesses ...something that occurs, but not to all of us. I would have preferred moretime spent on how to keep the foal healthy and happy. I'll call the vetsover if my foal gets sick and I'll trust their opinion the best. Dr. Losecovers a long length of time in the foal's life, examining vaccinationsduring the first year, handling the foal (limited), turning the mare andfoal out (some good tips there), and feeds. She is an advocate of earlyweaning of the foal at 3 months of age. This is a debatable practice, butif you are interested in it, she seems to have her reasoning explained.

5-0 out of 5 stars SSeq: not just for eq riders
This book was absolutely fabulous. It gives information about the most popular breeds that compete in saddelseat equitation, and Helen Crabtree is especcially helpful with all of her years of experience.Even though the book is more than 20 years old, the lessons inside remain true. This is a timeless book that should be read by all saddleseat riders to enhance their possible performance in and out of the show ring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saddle Seat Equitation by Helen K. Crabtree
This is an absolutely superb treatise on Saddle Seat Equitation, particularly for those new to the sport. Even for experienced Saddle Seat riders, there is probably no clearer explanation of the basics of showingthe saddle horse anywhere, and we all need a bit of review ocasionally! Thebook covers a wide scope of subjects connected with the training of horseand rider to enter the world of riding and showing in the Saddle Seatdiscipline. Crabtree adresses such critical but sometimes overlookedsubjects as the role a rider's parents can and should play at shows, beautyin the pairing of rider and horse, and teaching the adult show rider. Whatit offers in scope, it lacks in depth - and this is deliberate, since it isaimed at the new rider/trainer. Although every rider would benefit vastlyfrom reading this book, especially the sections on the Saddle SeatEquitation tests, more advanced riders will not find it satisfying in termsof in-depth discussions of training or show ring techniques, as that is notits focus. But it is an extremely worthwhile book for riders of all levels, and it is also an eminently readable, delightful and informative chronicleof the Saddle Seat Equitation world from the 50s to the 80s.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent details & photos, but....
I was very impressed with the photos & detail of the breeding for color. The only thing I found untrue is she stated there is no record of a pink eyed albino horse.Maybe she only checked in Australia, but here in Iowa I know of one born on my dad's farm.He has the pictures & told me he had a team of "American Cream" draft stock (a mare & a stallion)& in the 1940's a white filly was born with pink eyes. They named her "Sally" & she had no problems physically, she could pull a plow just as well as her parents.I'm very interested in the science of color & its hardiness under saddle, many old timers & cowboys have a rare view of what colors will "wear" better for the work they do.I read everything I can find on horses, but the best information has been directly from cowboys & "old-timers" (farmers). I would recommend Ben K. Green's books also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps me a lot...
As breeder with only a few mares, in a variety of colors, using outside stallions, this book is great to help me figure out what I might or might not get crossing certain colors. I knew my old chestnut mare always gave me the color she was bred to- the baby picture of the palomino would have helped me last year know he would turn gold as he grew, which he did. I find it very helpful ,and can use my discretion on "absolutes" of expected colors. Includes colors I never heard of, nor am likely to see in my quarter horses. Not too interested in breeding paints anyway...

5-0 out of 5 stars My best ever buy!
This is without doubt the best equine book which I have ever purchased. When ordering this book I considered it expensive, but the expensive product is very often the cheapest.5-0 out of 5 stars Race Horse Owners' Alert
Your trainer will injure every horse in the shedrow, most within 90 days, guaranteed.According to Tom Ivers our race horses lack the physical conditioning necessary to perform what they are being asked to perform. And hence, Fit Race Horse I (1983) to Fit Race Horse II, and all the superbtapes, newsletters, books and lectures in between. The best Ivers' bookwas the original with its witty insight into the sport. The Race HorseOwners' Manual was the most complete.Tom Ivers is a pioneer in bringingscience to the racetrack in nutrition, shoeing, veterinary, and exercisephysiology.Ivers summarized, compiled, exploded the old wives' tales andgenerally exposed the questionable world of the professional horse trainer. Ivers valuable contribution to the sport one day will be recognized.Muchof Mr. Ivers work is out of print, so Fit II, probably the weakest of hiswork, is what we have, but it still contains much of the prior work andconclusions.Ivers overlooked that in athletics everybody trainsdifferently and I am unable to endorse the exercise prescriptions, evenhaving followed them religiously with a couple of horses. But despite thatone flaw, besides Ross Staadens invaluable "Winning Trainers",Ivers work is easily the best I've read on training race horses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally. Someone in the race horse business who makes sense.
If you're new to the race horse business, read this book and learn it. If you've been in it for a while hold on to your hat, he's going to walk all over your feelings. The content is orderly, clear, and written in amanner that keeps topics such as spiculated red blood cells from puttingyou to sleep. Which is a good thing because he goes into a lot of detail. The main topic is interval training for all breeds. He asumes that you'realready a horseman or have one on your team, so he concentrates on thespecifics of this very intense form of training. He makes complete senseand insists that you can make any conventionally trained horsebetter(lots)with his methods. This book is a must for any racing owner ortrainer, and is worth every cent of what I first thought to be a ratherexpensive book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really helpful info!
This book is packed with helpful information that I can really use...Rather than providing a dumbed-down, one-size-fits-all recipe for feeding, Briggs gives horse owners the facts and formulas they need to make sure their horses' nutritional needs are met.

4-0 out of 5 stars Try something else...
This book is complete and informative, albeit a little hard to read. Horses have many different dietary requirements: fiber, fat, vitamins, minerals, protein... and Karen Briggs doesn't create any charts or guides to help you figure out which elements are likely to be lacking in your particular horses diet. 2-0 out of 5 stars Honestly, disappointed
For 300 pages, so little is said.I totally agree with all of Mr. Jackson's opinions on the natural hoof and the need to bring domesticated horses to a natural, holistic lifestyle to avoid the common and prevailing problems that plague a huge percentage of kept horses. He obviously has a deep understanding and wisdom on this point.
5-0 out of 5 stars Horse Owners Guide to Natural Hoof Care
Excellent body of work on the natural hoof and how to achieve it. Contains some very good pics of wild horse's hoofs and confirms the fact; that nature has it right. Keep spreading the word Jamie, God knows the horses need it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Well organized book with step by step instructions for natural trimming
I really am enjoying this book. It will serve as a great reference for me if I can manage to get it back. I am already offering to loan it out to friends because it is so full of information, has great photos and clear instructions on how to trim.I found the writer to be non-nonsense and extremely clear. The only disappointment I have is that he refers to a companion video and I never got this, nor did I know it even existed. Even so, the instructions are clear enough that you can figure out what to do without the video I think.I really like this guy because he was a long-time farrier and so he really has had lots of experience with horses feet.He dispels myths about lots of things people tell you in order to keep your horse in shoes. H e obviously has the horse's best interest at heart. I recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of having their horse go barefoot or already has a barefoot horse. It appears to be a reliable source of information and it is written with such clarity. If you haven't gone barefoot yet, I think you will after you read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars To jbsanderson
I read your sentence and it made perfect sense to me. It means that while you are riding in a counterclockwise circle, with the horse'sleft shouolder on your inside, then your horse should pick up the left lead of the canter, or the inside lead in any case so that it is more comfortable for the horse to go around corners and keep the same steady pace.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but effective
I think this book was very helpful.I was new to horseback riding and this gave the basic information I needed to know, plus additional information I'll use in the future. If you are new to riding then I think this book will be beneficial for you, too. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Much More Than Pampering Tips
I was fortunate to receive this book as a gift because I don't know if I would have bought it on my own. That would have been my loss because this book is jam-packed with practical tips, suggestions and advice fornose-to-tail horse care!June Evers' book offers ideas for completegrooming methods (including how to get rid of static electricity), mane andtail conditioning treatments (no less than five different options!),differnt kinds of baths for your horse (basic bath, the really dirty horsebath, refresher bath, frequently bathed horse bath, etc.), how to keepwater tanks clean, ideal stall layouts, mucking schedules, and the listgoes on.She does devote a fair amount of the book to recipes for gourmethorse treats, salads, cakes. And she started to lose me with the chapterson parties, games and costumes.5-0 out of 5 stars it was fabbo Darling
