5-0 out of 5 stars book review
Fantastic book overall!! Topics covered include side by side to autoloaders to various kinds of ammo for all types of birds. Great read from an honest author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Barsness is currently the best
Barsness has written the best current overview of shotguns for hunting: not sporting clays, trap, etc.He is not aligned nor does he show a marked prejudice for a particular type of shotgun like the side by side which is so prevalent today. He explains the advantages and downsides of variousguns and does a particularly good job on the very important, if not vital, subject of stock design and fit.Although I think you can find much ofthis information elsewhere, Barsness brings it together in a very conciseformat and cuts through the "poppycock."Plus, the photos aregreat! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!I love this book!
This book filled my burning desire to know everything about dollhouses & furniture from the last 50 years. There are no gaps of missing information or omitions of important items in this detailed andcomprehensive book.Quite a relief after seeing an army of inadequatecollector books flood the market.I'll have hours of fun reading this.Myonly complaint is some of the photos are dark or of poor color quality.Iwant to view these things in their full glory.

5-0 out of 5 stars A walk down the memory lane of my childhood!
This book is jam-packed with useful info, great pictures, and a very enjoyable writing style.I found myself constantly saying "I had that -- I remember that -- my friend had that one!"The book has been my constant companion ever since it arrived. What's more, it has sparked a new interest in collecting the old tin litho houses from the 50s and 60s -- items I had all but forgotten when I moved on to 1" scale wood miniatures.Thank you for a truly remarkable book, one which many of my friends will be enjoying, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST comprehensive book on contemporary dollhouses.
Zillner has actually answered burning questions I've had on dollhouses and their furnishings. This is by far the BEST reference I've seen in 25 years of collecting. I highly recommend the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So you want to see how to make sausages...
For most Disneyland guests, the nuts-and-bolts details behind the many attractions will ruin their illusions. Most people who are shown the tricks behind stage magic cannot get over feeling cheated. If you had to watch the process of making sausages from birth of the meat animal (pig or whatever) to the grilling of your breakfast in the restaurant kitchen, odds are that you'd enjoy your oatmeal instead.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this for the art
The previous reviews gave me the impression there would be great concept art in this book. Instead the few artworks are completing lacking in imagination, technical skill and the "Disney" design feel. The artworks have a '70s look about them, with psychodelic pastel rainbow streaks smeared across what would otherwise be dull sketches. Take away the colour and the line art is woeful. This guy cannot even draw a decent Mickey Mouse (a half talented 10 year old could do better). The best visuals herein are the photos of the theme park. Don't waste your money on this guy ... like Disney did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice behind the scenes look.
After a recent trip to Disney World, I became captivated by all that went on there and immediately went online to find any behind the scenes books that might be lingering about.Designing Disney was a great read from cover to cover.Written by John Hench, possibly the longest serving Imagineer, you're given insight into some of the things that went into creating the enchanting parks that we all know and love.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Buy for Beginning Builders
Depending on what your interests are, this can be a valuable addition to your library. It is not for collectors, in my opinion, and most of the examples are on the "folk art" side: crude, kitschy, and sometimes even made of junk. There are profiles of a few builders who make complex automata demonstrating fine craftsmanship, such as the wonderful Keith Newstead and John Grayson. I would have preferred to have some detailed explanations of how some of their automata work, though. The REAL strength of this book is if you are beginning to make your own automata and would like to have a "kit" to experiment with. The book contains full sized plans for an experimenter's "kit" which is really nice. I have Robert Addam's "How to Design and Make Automata" and CMT's book, but they both only have crude drawings with no dimensions. I made photocopies of the parts and then used Xylene to transfer directly onto plywood and cut the parts out on a scroll saw, saving a great deal of time and giving me a nice litte platform for experimenting. This alone makes the book a must have for the beginning builder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! Great color pictures and diagrams
This has got to be one of the best books on the subject of automata and mechanical theatre. There are lots of great color pictures and diagrams to build your own automata. Worth the money!

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor pictures, inconsistent descriptions, blank pages.
Beware of blank pages. The copy I got has blank pages 167, 171, 177, 185.This is very sloppy quality control at the printer's shop.
2-0 out of 5 stars No Mint States
This book gives photograde illustrations only to grade AU50, and the pictures are not very clear for comparison.

5-0 out of 5 stars A picture IS worth a thousand words!
Being a newbie to coin collecting, I found this book to be by far the most helpful to me. I was trying to understand the grading system, so I went to the local bookstore and browsed several books on the subject. And while there are a lot of good books out there...a photo of an EF coin is SO MUCH easier to comprehend than a 25 word description of one! I especially found it helpful how the author pointed out the typical wear points for each of the different coins, and then explained in VERY simple terms how that degree of wear would affect the coin's grade. I don't think I would be overstating things if I said that even a 10 year old could comprehend this book. The author really does make it THAT simple! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A very strong four and a half stars!
I am a librarian and a woodworker and thus have access and interest in many books on this subject."In the Arts and Crafts Style" is a beautiful book that is deserved of much praise. The color photography is as plentiful as it is beautiful.I appreciate that the subject matter for this book does not seem to be drawn from the same dozen houses that so many others have used (As much as I like them, how many times can we look at the same pictures of the Gamble House, or Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio?).The text in this book is very well written and conveys clearly what is so special about the subject matter.I was also very impressed with the excellent resource list given at the end of the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Dreaming Your Ultimate Spaces
What a lovely book, for the A&C afficionado and the newbie alike. Dividing her content into Influences & Innovations; Hallmarks of the Style; Furniture; Objects and Accents; and Case Studies, Mayer presents a stunning and inspirational tour of homes and objects from the Arts and Crafts Movement. My sister gave me this when she realized I loved the style, and I nearly wept. How amazing to have someone understand your passions!

5-0 out of 5 stars A scholarly work on the American Bowie knife
Many knife collectors will welcome this edition to their bookshelves. The high numbers of high quality knifemakers and eager customers in recent years has created a natural interest in the early beginnings of the uniquely American Bowie knife that needs to be satisfied. Mr.Flayderman has heard the calling and has delivered in abundance. There is something for everybody in this book. The quality of documentary evidence is commendable and I even liked thepictures but don't think of this as a coffee table book. There is more here than can be covered in this humble review. The owner of this edition will return to it again and again and will glean yet another glimpse of our American history when the country was young and wild. If knives are of interest to you this book will serve.

5-0 out of 5 stars bowie knife book
I purchased this book as a gift for my uncle. It is well worth the money! It is a coffee table-type book with thick heavy pages and LOTS of beautifully detailed photos. His only negative comment when I gave it to him was, "That is a dagger on the cover!" and He knows his knives!! I guess the publisher doesn't know what a bowie knife looks like.If you like bowie knives or know someone who does, this is a perfect book.

3-0 out of 5 stars A must have book for world coin collectors
who specialize in gold coins minted prior to 1600. It would have been much better if the photos would have been in color. In todays new coin business and hobby it's essential to communicate not only the basic design of a coin but also it's unique look and that means color and high quality digital pictures. We are learing in the trade that these color photos are an essential part of the business, and students and collectors of coins want research material that also accurately portrays coins as well. Still a necessary book for the collector as well as advanced Numismatic library, let's hope we see a new release that we can all be happy with.

The book is poorly constructed and lacks a lot of acient middle eastern gold coins. The lack of color also makes me feel that I over paid for this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem
This is a very strange and beautiful book in pictures. It reads like a dream if you tune in to it, and reveals very deep meanings about the relation between life and death, the human relation to the forces of nature, and time. Even though there are no words, it is possible to understand. If you get into it the symbols become more and more recognizable, and they begin to speak. the calendrical symbols and the spirit deities are completely recognizable. The sequences are all about times, and there is a big element about sacrifice. It has to do with the consequences of change; there is no life without death. The book has a very powerful image of life and death fused back to back that pretty much is the epitome of all the book is about. It's all about life and death in relation to time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, and at this price...
This is a wonderful resouce for those interested in ancient Mexico.Full photographic facsimilies of these codices are hideously expensive, and really, most are not in great shape. After extensive research, we have here a great reproduction of what this important work looked like when it was "fresh off the presses."It is beautiful, and in comparison to Dover's similar Codex Nuttall, this work comes with a MUCH better introduction that explains more of the text, the context, and the ideology.Readers will be able to better understand some of the religious principles of the ancient Mexicans (and there is some debate whether this book was painted by Aztecs or Mixtecs, which I won't bore you with!).It shows gods, ceremonies, the calender, and other religious iconography which is interesting, and would be a revelation for more the artisticly inclined. The visuals are wonderfully presented and all in all this is an astonishing bargain. Those with even a casual interest in New World archaeology or art NEED to get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring and Moving Tale of a Man's Desire to save Yiddish Literature
Wow, this book was terrific! Aaron Lansky was taking a Yiddish class where he had to go into the lower East side of Manhattan to obtain assigned Yiddish books that were no longer in print. One day while in class, he decided to devote his life to saving as many Yiddish books as he could.
4-0 out of 5 stars Saving Yiddish Books
Aaron Lansky has devoted his adult life to rescuing, collecting, cataloging, and re-distributing hundreds of thousand of books written in Yiddish. They rescued the books from abandoned libraries, dumpsters, and taken publishers' complete collection when the publisher closed their business doors. They also accepted the private libraries of elderly people who wanted the story of each book preserved as well as serving Lansky and his cadre of volunteers kugel.
2-0 out of 5 stars Lots about Lansky; little about literature
