5-0 out of 5 stars Wow...A Great Coffee Table Book for Any Firearms History Buff
Just the pictures in this huge volume are enough to make it worth thumbing through, but the written information is tremendous and the author manages to cover all connections to Winchesters' Fathers, including John M Browning, my personal hero (other than my Father, Uncle, Grandfather and all other veterans of WWII and Korea).Probably not all the information on Winchester firearms and ammo history but all that I can absorb and still have a social life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Candy
Beautiful to look at. Not heavy in the way of company or technical history, but what a great coffee table book. Costly - if you can find it - but wow!

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's do the time warp again!
What a wonderful, nostalgic look at Christmases past.I was surprised to learn that some gifts and traditions came into being 20 years before I was born (1954), and because I lived in Germany until first grade, there were some toys, decorations and treats I never knew existed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful nostalgic book!
I am always looking for books with vintage pictures of Christmas and this one is great!I'm reading it right now and I LOVE the old pictures!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars In the Sumptuous Time of Autumn
Stuart L. Schneider's dynamic Halloween In America: A Collector's Guide With Prices spectacularly captures the spirit of the classic years of the American Halloween tradition: the period from the turn of the century through the end of the nineteen-fifties. Though the book includes more recent material, Schneider wisely focuses on what he recognizes to be the holiday's glory days in this country, when its spirit hadn't moved too far from its agricultural roots and American culture was predominantly positive, forward-looking, and uncynical--and its Halloween decorations charming and vividly imaginative. 5-0 out of 5 stars For the Halloween lover
This is much more than a book for collectors of Halloween. This is the best book on the subject. I've read all the others and this is the bible of Halloween. If you have only one book on Halloween, this has to be the one. It brings back childhood. This book is really a look at what Halloweenmeans. Ghosts and goblins, fall colors, adventure and childhood fears. I'veread mine over and over and over again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Research Book
It has a great number of photos that show details of western clothings, accessories, and other items. As a costume designer, I need to see the details for my research, and this book helped me a lot.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference manual for period wear.
I found the book both entertaining and informative. The photography and description of the material is excellent. As an amatuer historian on the subject, I found it to be educational as well as concise and pointing outsubtle items which could have been overlooked by the casual observer.Itis one of those books the reader can either read from cover to cover oropen anywhere and dig right in. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for old west history buffs
This is a very good book for those interested in all the various accessories that the cowboy (and cowgirl) used.It is a good reference for old west living history groups that need to authenticate costume articles to a particular time period. The pictures are top quality. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bought it despite... and liked it!
Well, after a few of the reviews below I fully expected this to be a big disappointment, but, as one of the negative reviewers put it, the book had to be owned. I'm a big fan of Mary Blair's work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Swell introduction
Although I note some of the other reviews of this book arenot too favorable, for me it's a very cool introduction to an artist of whom I had never heard.

5-0 out of 5 stars So you want to see how to make sausages...
For most Disneyland guests, the nuts-and-bolts details behind the many attractions will ruin their illusions. Most people who are shown the tricks behind stage magic cannot get over feeling cheated. If you had to watch the process of making sausages from birth of the meat animal (pig or whatever) to the grilling of your breakfast in the restaurant kitchen, odds are that you'd enjoy your oatmeal instead.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this for the art
The previous reviews gave me the impression there would be great concept art in this book. Instead the few artworks are completing lacking in imagination, technical skill and the "Disney" design feel. The artworks have a '70s look about them, with psychodelic pastel rainbow streaks smeared across what would otherwise be dull sketches. Take away the colour and the line art is woeful. This guy cannot even draw a decent Mickey Mouse (a half talented 10 year old could do better). The best visuals herein are the photos of the theme park. Don't waste your money on this guy ... like Disney did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice behind the scenes look.
After a recent trip to Disney World, I became captivated by all that went on there and immediately went online to find any behind the scenes books that might be lingering about.Designing Disney was a great read from cover to cover.Written by John Hench, possibly the longest serving Imagineer, you're given insight into some of the things that went into creating the enchanting parks that we all know and love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the Memories
I love Robert Brenner's Christmas collectors' books! I bought Christmas Past some time ago because it not only told you values and showed photos of the old ornaments and candles/lights, but it also included photos of how the trees were decorated and memories from people who lived in that era. When I saw this volume, for the years 1940-1959, I opened the pages and nearly cried: the photos looked just like those of my relatives' homes when I was a small child or photos from my mom's or dad's childhood. The descriptions are quite detailed as well and there are many, many photos of the beautiful ornaments of the time.

4-0 out of 5 stars COULD NOT DISAGREE MORE WITH PREVIOUS REVIEWER
What book were they reading? This period of 1940 to 1959 really defined what our modern Christmas has become. This was the period when things such as christmas lights and mass-produced ornaments took off...Names Like Noma and Shiny-Brite were the rage...

5-0 out of 5 stars A VINTAGE LOOK AT HALLOWEEN
We Americans tend to be somewhat near-sighted in our view of Halloween in thinking that our celebration of the day is relatively a modern fascination. And, in truth, Halloween has boomed in the past twenty years to become second only to Christmas in decorating and celebrating the season. As Diane C. Arkins shows in this wonderful book, however, Halloween has been widely celebrated for well over one hundred years and this book concentrates on what Arkins calls Halloween's golden age from the 1870's to the 1930's.The book is filled with hundreds of vintage photographs, illustrations, and magazine reprints from the period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great from R. L. Wilson
Another great book from R.L. Wilson. Every bit as entertaining and informative as the others he's wrote. Fun to read about the old west and the guns used to tame it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and beautiful book ....
My gun loving son, cried when his teacher would not let him bring this book to school to show his friends. It's absolutely gorgeous with an interesting text and glorious photos. We love the section showing the actors and their screen guns.

This book is one of the most beatiful I have seen. If you like cowboy guns, buy this book. The extraordinary amount of information provided on the text is surpassed only by the quality and variety of the pictures. 3-0 out of 5 stars More a coffee table book than a guide
I bought this booking thinking it would be a good guide to the hidden gems on the West Coast but found that it was more a coffee table book or souvenir book. If you are looking for something with detailed information on the coastal drive, e.g., highlights, directions, tips, etc. this isn't it. If you want a nice momento of the California Coast, then it's a beautiful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
What an excellently written book. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the authors words are worth a thousand (mental) pictures. But there are very nice photo's as well. Covers nature, towns, and cities with the type of information a tourist or native would appreciate. And if you can't actually do such a trip, you definitely can from your armchair while reading this book. A real pleasure.

I was so happy to receive the TV Guide Official Collector's Guide, it is a great publication!!It has a lot more information than I expected - comments by stars over the years and much more!!It is very colorful and I will enjoy reading it for years to come.My 45 year old son has a collection of TV Guides and I know he will be interested in seeing the publication to see if the ones he has are valuable!Thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars A TV GUIDE FAN'S DREAM BOOK!
The episode of Seinfeld where Frank Costanza was noted to be a collector of TV Guide pretty much cemented that publication's place in the lore of pop culture. Now, from Bangzoom publishers comes "TV Guide" the official Collector's Guide.A lot of collector's books claim to be the only book you'd ever need to own but this one truly fits the bill. With over 3700 pictures, and every national and regional TV Guide cover pictured from 4/10/1953 through 10/19/2005 this is truly the ultimate resource for not only collectors, but fans of the magazine as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great resource, but are the prices realistic?
I have owned most editions of this book, and as a resource for researching Coca Cola memorabilia, I would have to say it is unsurpassed.I haven't seen any other guides come close in the number of items shown.2-0 out of 5 stars Fed Up With This One, Too
Right off the bat: I agree that the omission of blotters and assorted other collectibles from this guide is a gaping omission as big as a barn. I hardly use this guide anymore for several reasons:1-0 out of 5 stars Too Much HYPE !
A lot of pictures. Prices that reflect nothing on reality. Not one Cleveland Electric Neon Clock. Not one American Time Clock. I have 3 originals hanging in front of me. Missing some of the major buttons. Typical collectors book. Pictures of everything that's out there, except the rare items you buy these books to find out about. Total dissapointment. I have stacks of collector books that have proven useless. There all written by the "authority" on the subject on hand. I think this explains the ... in collecting and the stacks of used books available. If you're going to make a "Know It All" book, than you better know at least %90. Monster let down. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eric Sloane-The Master Illustrator of Rural America
When Eric Sloane wrote this book in the 1950's, the United States had already made the transition from being an agricultural nation into an industrial society.Fortunately, there were still plenty of examples of America's rural past scattered along the backroads and other forgotten areas of the nation's countryside.Sloane spent many years, seeking out these historic relics so that he could study and sketch them. The result is whole series of books that chronicle America's historic material culture. This book focuses on barns.

4-0 out of 5 stars the american quilt: a history of cloth and comfort 1750-1950
This book expands on the history of the quilt with other interesting events in the era.If you like quilting and history you will enjoy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars For quilt enthusiasts and collectors--a valuable volume
The quilt, as a craft, is a well-explored area for authors. Quilting, you needn't be told, is enjoying a huge popularity with television shows, websites and shops for fabrics in almost every town. Even a friend of mine in a small village in the Black Forest of Germany quilts enthusiastically and wanted to visit American quilt shops on her first trip to the USA.
5-0 out of 5 stars Splendid, exquisite, the best quilt book....
This book was given to me as a gift. How fortunate that I had such a friend! The most beautiful quilt book, the best selection of quilts, the best range, the best details, the best photography, the best printing, and comprehensive scholarship text to boot (I just can't get past the pictures).Includes some familiar quilts, but also many, many, many wonderful ones not seen elsewhere.I have a wall of 25 years of well-loved quilt books and I rate this at the top.Splendid.Exquisite.Be so fortunate. ...
