Knowing and enjoying your Rolex
If you are interested in the history and development of this much sought after watch, I feel that this is the best book on the market for under $125. Photos of an extaordinary amount of Rolex watches add to the abundant, easy to read, printed information. Maybe there are some new styles not listed but, so what, they will be in future editions. I think this book is invaluable to the Rolex collector, just starting out or with years of experience. A pleasure to read and to own. Please note that this is the 3rd. edition of this book.

Rise and Fall and the Rise Again of Mechanical Watchmaking
Wristwatches' is an excellent survey of the huge variety of watches thatbeen developed this century. Highlights includes a consise history of thechanges in design over the last 100 years and brief insights into howparticular complications are constructed. However, for the english reader,for this is a translation from the original German editions, it has a fewfaults in it's germanocentricity.All of the historical advertisingmaterial displayed in the book is in German.It would have been moreappropriate to include at least a few english language advertisments as itgives a lot of flavour to such a book. In addition there is a completesection on German wristwatch development which is a bit dry if this is notyour particular interest. A major editorial fault is that the vastmajority of photos have lost their numbering and you are left trying tomatch up the descriptions to each picture.For such a book this fault is apity. The price guide watch collectors love to hate,
the M***osoft of watch price guides, or the 2.4 pound gorilla lurking in my watch briefcase- call it what you may, but as one can see by the numerous reviews below, the Complete Guide never fails to elicit opinions both positive and negative from watch collectors.All criticisms are valid, yet this reader always finds something interesting between the covers of this book, and whenever I am looking for information about relative values of watches, this is where I usually first look.Until a truly up-to-date price guide, that reflects the reality of ALL markets is created by some enterprising individuals (any watch collectors at Google??), this is the resource many will turn to first.One suggestion: I for one would support a 10 to 15 dollar increase on the retail price of this guide if that would enable the author to hire the services of a professional editor who could then clean up the numerous errors and redundancies present in this guide, which are well documented, by the way.

If this is no better than the 2001 edition ...atravesty
I own the 2001 edition, which is awkwardly written, very poorly edited, and difficult to use as a reference.Many photos appear to be xeroxes of movements rather than photos, and are illegible.Many actual photos are of such poor quality as to be essentially useless. There is no index, no attempt to provide cross-reference material (such as calibres common to a set of watches).Even the table of contents contains an error.

I found the catalog very limited.A review should include all products available from a manufacturer or list variations of products displayed.For example, a watch made of stainless steel is also available and not just white gold.

The best guide in the market
After years of buying the equivalent in French and German, this is definitely the best guide, very complete, very well written. The prices are in US$, though. The most expensive watch, a Vacheron Constantin. 1.6 million dollars, production is limited to 7 watches. The mind boggles!

Do not expect to find quartz electronic watches from the orient here. This is a catalog of the finest in traditional watch design from Europe, primarily Switzerland, Germany and France. Here are watches that are the ultimate in design, both mechanically and artistically. They are also the ultimate in price, intended for the well to do who wants to make a fashion statement that is also a supurb timekeeper. (I don't know the most expensive watch in the book, but the highest priced one I found was $783,100.)

New to Hobby - Good Book
I am new to the hobby of horology and enjoy owning this book. It provides a lot of detail and good photos of all the major brands (the competing buying guides leave out some significant brands). Well done and worth buying BEFORE you spend 30 times its price (or more!) on a watch. See the different styles and open your eyes. Take the TIME to appreciate it!

The Bible of the Watch Industry, The Best tool available
This is an excellent tool if your a collector, admirer, in the biz or anyone considering a watch purchase.An incredible reference tool, great in helping one narrow down their likes and dislikes...my 3rd year in a row.There are a couple of others...however this one is the most objective and useful.

I've bought each issue since I got interested in watches in 2000, even though the contents change very little from year to year.Another shortcoming of the annual is that the price information is neither complete nor accurate - you can usually get significant discounts on many of the watches featured.Nevertheless, it is great fun just to look at, and read about watches that I can only drool over :-P ... Practical watch repairing

Great Mechanical Watch Repair Text
This book was originally published in 1946, and it's still in print because it's the best.The text is straight forward, clear and easy to understand.The illustrations are very helpful, maybe even excessive, but to someone who knew nothing about the subject before starting the book, that's not so bad.The newer editions have a small section on quartz repair, but due to the advances in electronics, it is dated.The theory is helpful, but those seeking to learn quartz repair only probably need another book.All in all, it is a great book highly recommended to anyone who would like to learn watch repair.

This book was first printed in England in 1985, so don't expect any information more current than that.It is not a price handbook either. What it does provide is a high quality history of the development of the watch from the Middle Ages with a fair deal of technical explanation.For one unfamiliar with how watches are made, some of the terminology will be difficult.The book also provides some examples of how to research a watch and how to engage in the business of selling watches.Unfortunately, information on starting a watch shop in England in the 1980s is not very useful for most American readers of today, and the research is only moderately interesting.But as an historical introduction to watches it is a top-notch overview, suitable for the technically inclined beginner. A beautiful resource for the vintage Tiffany timepiece owner/collector/admirer
A wonderful history of the Company and the time peices they sold.Beautifully illustrated with archival photos not seen elsewhere, this significant book gives a real 'feel' for the quality and enviability of Tiffany, especially in the early years.Unfortunately, too little time is spent on the really early, priceless pieces, with the emphasis on the more 'modern' (post Depression era) pieces....not surprising, since the author was the director of design for so many of these later peices, that the book often feels a little too self congratulatory.Still, for the owner/collector/admirer of the early T&Co. pieces, this book is a must. ...
