4-0 out of 5 stars service
The item is fine, however, Amazon's shipping procedures are very slow, and inadequet. I paid for an upgrade in shipping, and the item was two days late, with no explanation from Amazon.I will remember this the next time I need to order.

5-0 out of 5 stars Revised
The "Blue Book of Gun Values" 27th ed. is a great buy.Retail is around $40, and well worth it, but for almost half the price on amazon, an excellent deal. With updated values, this edition will surpass the previous especially with current events involving Winchester.Buy it for an accurate "Blue Book" price on guns. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful!!!
Gosh, this was a pleasant book to read. The only negative I recall was the lack of detailed information about all of the photographs scattered throughout the book.I admit I was hoping to read a little more about some of the business failures and reasons why some firearms did not go into production. However, we don't need to focus in on the negative when it comes to Mr. Ruger's wonderful life!Other than my desire to want a little more description about the photographs and business dealings, this was an absolutely wonderful book on Mr. Ruger.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like Ruger guns, you will love this book!
From the first Standard Auto, to Flatgate Single Six's, Flattop Blackhawks, Hawkeye's, Bearcat's, Model 77s, Redhawks, you name it, it is all in here.I love this book.It is the best book on Ruger firearms that you can buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gun Digest is Back and better than ever for 2007
I was pleasently surprised when I opened my 2007 edition. It abounds with interesting articles.Tops and lead in this issue was an excellent piece from John Malloy, renowned author of many top notch articles on guns and gun history. He takes you through 60 years of the automatic pistol in the US and neatly ties it into the 60 years of the Gun Digest.I found this year's other articles both very intersting and informative. Those that downplay this years edition either haven't read it, or don't appreciate it. I've given it 5 stars to counteract the insultingly low ratings.I have collected the entire gun digest library starting with the 1944 edition and have read through many volumes of the library.I believe that this qualifies me to speak about the entire body of work that is Gun Digest. I can honestly say that this issue is certainly not one of the worst and would be ranked as a refreshing change from those of the recent past.Get it for the articles, and enjoy it until next year.Ken Ramage and the GD team have made an effort. That says alot in this day and age and I believe that you won't be disappointed - do yourself a favor though, and this goes for any book.Don't pay anywhere close to retail price. You should be able to get this one brand new for around 15 bucks - delivered as of the date of this review!

1-0 out of 5 stars How Low Can You Go
Can't wait till the2008 issue comes out to see how much further you can go to destroy what used to be an excellent publication. No articles, canned content, and errors abound in this publication. Was going to give it 2 stars so I have the ability to downgrade if next years digest gets any worse.

1-0 out of 5 stars It just keeps going down hill
Gun Digest has been going down hill every year since it sold out to new owners back around 1999. This year is a new low. Very few articles and many errors in the canned specs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference
A must own reference text for gun collectors. It is a detailed guide of make, model, caliber and potential value. It has most manufactured firearms from more than 150 years ago from all over the globe.

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must' reference for any avid firearms collector
What does the newly updated 16th edition of the classic STANDARD CATALOG OF FIREARMS get you that differs from past editions? There are more model entries, more pricing data, and more photos: over 1,500 pages packed with detail. All prices have been updated for collectible firearms made between 1838 and 2005, over 600 new entries added, and photos over 7,000 firearms packed in - there's even a 16-page color section on museum-quality antique firearms from around the world. With its serial number lists to help avoid fakes, this 16th edition is a 'must' reference for any avid firearms collector.
5-0 out of 5 stars Seems very detailed.
The book is very detailed. The loads of pictures helped me confirm the items were properly identified.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packing Iron
Excellent book on period gun leather. It was a great help to me in establishing period items for cowboy shooting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must gave for the holster maker or shooting enthusiast!
Whether you are a cowboy action shooter, single action shooter, cowboy/ western fan, or like myself a budding holster maker and leather worker, this book is a must have for your library. The photos are wonderful, and it was quite clear the author had done his homework researching the subject. Probably the finest work on holsters and gunbelts to date.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating reference to an oft-neglected subject.
There are hundreds of works describing the weapons used in the Old West, yet those treating the subject of how those arms were carried are few and far between--a handful of articles in magazines and collector's journals that defy easy access on the part of the average reader. Enter "Packing Iron," a single source examining frontier gunleather from early saddle and belt holsters of the early nineteenth century to the end of the cowboy era and beyond (20th century examples from Hollywood and television receive some coverage). The book is copiously illustrated with full-color photographs of historical pieces from a variety of collections supplemented by period images illustrating gunleather as it was worn in both studio and field. For the western historian or enthusiast "Packing Iron" is a fascinating book, and for Cowboy Action Shooting participants seeking authenticity in their interpretaions it is almost indispensable. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wow...A Great Coffee Table Book for Any Firearms History Buff
Just the pictures in this huge volume are enough to make it worth thumbing through, but the written information is tremendous and the author manages to cover all connections to Winchesters' Fathers, including John M Browning, my personal hero (other than my Father, Uncle, Grandfather and all other veterans of WWII and Korea).Probably not all the information on Winchester firearms and ammo history but all that I can absorb and still have a social life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Candy
Beautiful to look at. Not heavy in the way of company or technical history, but what a great coffee table book. Costly - if you can find it - but wow!

This book contains more info than one could even imagine! In fact, that's all I'm going to say becuase it would take to long for me to even give you even a basic idea! I will tell you this: If you don't have this book in your library then you are missing out big time!!!!! Oh, by the way, the illustrations are awesome too!!!!5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing detail
I'm not really into sword collecting, but I nonetheless found5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent piece of work!
The Connoisseur's Book is exceptionally detailed and not to mention very aesthetically pleasing. The book itself has the feel and look of a high-quality encyclopedia. As should be expected, the information inside is very well detailed. It is an excellent book and I very strongly recommend it, particularly if you are ready to start deeper in-depth studies of Nihonto. For a novice, I would probably suggest the books by Sato and Yumoto. But this is what I feel would be a step beyond those.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful photos, but not much else
The photos are great! There was little information to really tell about each gun pictured.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book of Guns, Indeed!
This book looks sweet on our coffee table. The pictures are beautiful- especially the ones of antique rifles. My knowledge of firearms has greatly increased just by reading it in my spare time. There is fascinating history about guns that I had never heard of previously. I like the way the book is organized by firearm type and country of origin. I'm truly glad I purchased this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Historical Review but lacking modern details
I have been learning a lot about modern handguns, and I wanted a book that would give me some history of guns, how their operation has evolved, and an overview of the types of handguns in existance. This book is definitely interesting and fun to flip through, and has some great photos.I liked the photos of the older flint-lock pistols, pepperbox revolvers, and guns of the old-west.Some of the oddities were especially interesting, including the Japanese sword-gun (not a bayonet, but a full-size sword with a handle that was a gun). Also, I liked the WWII Liberator, made by GM to be cheap, easy to build, and to dropped in mass on Germany for partisans to get. However, I felt the book was lacking in a few key areas.I understand that the author can't possibly include every gun ever. But why are there so many examples of home-made guns throughout the years, and no entry for the Glock? The Glock was a revolutionary gun, with an interesting history of unknown Gaston Glock with no gunmaking experience making a gun for the Austrian army that bucked much conventional thinking regarding guns.Who would think a plastic frame would make a reliable gun? Now, every gun store you go into is packed with Glocks, and it is the favorite sidearm of many LEOs including police and FBI.Most CCW books I read recommend the Glock.Half the new guns I see today are essentially Glock copies (Springfield XD, Steyr, S&W SW, etc). The only mention of the Glock in this book is in a side-panel about SWAT teams, where it mentions that SWAT teams use Glocks among other weapons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flayderman's Guide
I am an ardent collector of antique firearms.Flayderman's is an absolutely essential resource with detailed information about practically every firearm ever produced in early America. There simply is nothing comparable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Flayderman's Guide
I am a CW buff, and often would look at items listed on the various sites, not knowing the details. Now I can be sure I know the model, date of mfg, value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms and Their Values
One may disagree with some of the prices given but if a novice collector bought only one book, this should be it for the wealth of information found within its almost 700 pages of photos and text. Whether your area of interest is Civil War arms, Indian guns, air and spring guns, or even whaling guns you'll find this book helpful. My only criticism is the arrangement of the index and that was the responsibililty of the publisher. ... Read more

If you collect Smith and Wessons you havee to own this book.No other book on Smith's is even close.

3-0 out of 5 stars overrated
I have a room full of gun books, and I didn't find anything new in this one.I bought this because it was recomended to me for finding dates of manufacture. It falls short. There are many books on other brands that give "year of manufacture" by serial number.Supica says this cannot be done with older Smith & Wessons, yet if you send a serial number to S&W, they can tell you when your gun left the factory.Somebody other than Supica has this info and I'm looking for that book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars ABC's of Reloading
What more can you say except this is a fundamental reference everyone should have on their book shelf if they reload ammunition. There is more here for the beginner but there is also plenty here for experienced handloaders.I am glad I finally have this reference to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good for anybody interested in getting into reloading
I'm just getting into reloading myself, and this book came highly reccomended from a lot of my friends that are already involved in the hobby. I ordered it and read it through and I must say that it does a very good job of explaining how to set everything up and do all the steps, but also a lot of the science behind it. I learned a lot from this book and I would most definately reccomend it to anybody that wants to start reloading!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Err...The 7th Edition of this book has been out since 2/05!
This is a thorough and excellent manual for the beginner and should be read by many of the so-called experts I've come across in the last few months. It covers handgun and rifle metallic cartridge reloading, shotshell reloading, bullet casting/swaging, and ahost of related subjects. While it doesn't have load data, it gives easily understood descriptions of the various reloading processes no matter what you're shooting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Something for your personal library
This books adds a little bit of perspective that I hadn't got elsewhere. Of course, since it was written by a European, it didn't tell you very much about how many people had protected their families by using this technology. But this was all before American prosperity, and not many people could afford a gun, and it was still sticks and rocks for most people. ... Read more

Fantastic book overall!! Topics covered include side by side to autoloaders to various kinds of ammo for all types of birds. Great read from an honest author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Barsness is currently the best
Barsness has written the best current overview of shotguns for hunting: not sporting clays, trap, etc.He is not aligned nor does he show a marked prejudice for a particular type of shotgun like the side by side which is so prevalent today. He explains the advantages and downsides of variousguns and does a particularly good job on the very important, if not vital, subject of stock design and fit.Although I think you can find much ofthis information elsewhere, Barsness brings it together in a very conciseformat and cuts through the "poppycock."Plus, the photos aregreat! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know about your 10/22
This book has got about everything you want to know about Ruger 10/22's. It is designed more for the Ruger owner who is new to the rifle or modification market, rather than the individual who has already modified a few rifles or who has gunsmithing experience. Although I do own three 10/22's, one of which is called FrankenRuger because the only original part left is the receiver, I found the book to be very informative. Chapter 4 on Factory Models and chapter 13, Sources For Shoppers are excellent.
