4-0 out of 5 stars service
The item is fine, however, Amazon's shipping procedures are very slow, and inadequet. I paid for an upgrade in shipping, and the item was two days late, with no explanation from Amazon.I will remember this the next time I need to order.

The "Blue Book of Gun Values" 27th ed. is a great buy.Retail is around $40, and well worth it, but for almost half the price on amazon, an excellent deal. With updated values, this edition will surpass the previous especially with current events involving Winchester.Buy it for an accurate "Blue Book" price on guns. ... Very informative and worth the price. This book reviewed the history of Rolex as well as very usefull insight on spotting Fake or altered Rolex Watches...One thing I am sure of is that after reading the Rolex report I will only buy a Rolex watch from an authorized Rolex dealer and NEVER over the internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply 18th century coins of the world for the world !
Certainly this is the book for 18th century coins, unless you are mainly interested in one country like the UK or France -- in that case you would find more information more attractively laid out, along with other centuries, elsewhere, usually more cheaply too. But for its coverage of the world, including hugely complicated countries like Gemany, Italy and India, it is unbeatable. This 3rd edition is an improvement over earlier editions, because more pictures (especially of the smaller coins) and more obscurities have been included.
5-0 out of 5 stars As my collection slowly moves back in time
I need a guide so I just do not blindly pay big bucks for cute pictures. There are a lot of good guides and some more specific on particular eras and locations such as Westphalia. But as you do a coin search you are bound to run across something you are not familiar with and need a guide. This guide is a great place to start; it is easy to navigate and gives cursory information on particular locations and times surrounding the coin's production.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone interested in coins should own this book!
And here in 2006 we have the 60th anniversary of what is commonly referred to as "The Red Book", which is of course a guidebook of US coins which encompasses state coinage such as Massachussets, New Jersey and the other colonies, gold coins from the American wild west as well as the Southern mints, pattern and experimental coinage and essentialy a basic guide that every coin collector, coin dealer, hobbyist and even part time student of coins cannot be without. Edited by one of the greats, Kenneth Bressett, this book also makes a great gift for that budding YN !( young Numismatist) As a professional coin dealer I recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Latest coin information here!
This latest (2007)publication by expert authors gives up-to-date+ values of coins. The color representations of coins is also helpful. The spiral binding allows one to hold the book open while examining one's collection coins with a glass and comparing with photos in the book. The history included with descriptions enlightens and enhances reader's knowledge of the coin of the land.Great book, recommended highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Get It
For anyone who loves to collect, this book is a must-have. Not that you'll need the tips that the author includes for the novice, but this gem of a book is a collectible in its own right, presented in a hard plastic sleeve. Filled with whimsical photos of dozens of designs by today's most noted designers and architects, "Antiques of the Future" is irresistible and informative. As a student of contemporary material culture and the things that surround us, I got a huge kick viewing some of the best design of our time in this format. Makes a great gift for the person who has almost everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it
This book was a great addition to my library. I was surprised to see some of the objects that I own and love might be worth something someday, and to find out why. I have a few other "conversation piece" books on products, but most of them only talk about one type of design (like chairs) or are organized historically. I like that this book has a great variety of objects. The only bad thing is that now I want to own everything in the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading
This book is required reading for anyone wishing to enter the Oriental carpet business. It is also a fabulous reference source for the home buyer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible reference!!
This book is definitely worth every penny! It goes into great detail on the different types of rugs, the history of the people (from a rug making perspective). There are beautiful pictures of rugs as examples, maps showing both the old names of areas as well as those in use today. The writing style is fun to read (not overly dry). The first 80 mpgs or so are dedicated to the rug and rumaking tself - construction, dyes, design, the people who make them. The rest of the book is broken down into the different areas where rugs were/are made. These sections provide great details on the specifics of the styles of rugs produced by those people, why they use certain colors etc.Excelent excellent book!I'd buy it again in a heart beat. Its a big book so its not so easy to take on a trip but a great book to have at home to read through and learn from.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good!
A bit pricy but worth it.I bought it to read on my way to the UAE/Bahrain.I was planning on buying a carpet and this went a long way towards helped me to know what I was looking at and what to look for.A great book for the novice and experienced, alike.Everybody wanted to borrow it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I recommend you the last edition of World Coins
An excellent book as allways, recommended for people who collect, and/or sells/buy World Coins, A lot of improved images and list of prices. I would say this book is the STATE OF THE ART in World Coins catalog.
1-0 out of 5 stars No price changes....
Here we go again...You might think that with the rise in the price of metals this year we would expect to see overall price evaluations in this latest edition of World Coins (The answer is NO, Krause Publishing figures that a re-designed cover qualifies as a 'new' addition). Save yourself some coin and purchase a used 32nd edition, which is basically identical except that with the 2006 ed. you also get coin listings of 2001 and up! You will now have to purchase another catalog for 'updated' 2001 and up coin pricing...Lazy and a rip. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars --Found Treasure--
I had the wonderful good fortune to find the LAMPS OF TIFFANY at a flea market and I'm delighted to say that I now own a copy of this beautiful book. 5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant reference for Tiffany lamp builders or collectors
Artistry Stained Glass in Tempe, Arizona teaches extensive classes in Tiffany lamp building. With over 40 years combined lamp buildingexperience, we find Egon Neustadt's book to be the most sought afterreference for color, layout and even lamp base matching. We have otherreference books, but this one is passed around from student to student, without fail.5-0 out of 5 stars This is the "The Tiffany Lamp Bible", Mr. Neustadt is Moses!
I personally used this book as a true reference while recreating Tiffany shades and bases with a well-known Tiffany Repro company in California from 1983 to 1989. I never lost my fascination for the detail and beauty of each piece catalogued in this wonderful book, as well as the invaluable references to glass, bronze and "tag" authenticity. Mr. Neustadt truly loved L.C. Tiffany's work, and the photo overlay process used in the original book gave each shade it's true color and a rich depth. My book was well-loved, and so valuable as a reference at the time that it was unfortunately stolen from me before I had to give my work up to a carpal tunnel injury. I have since wished it would reappear at a lesser price, but the book is truly worth twice it's weight in gold to any Tiffany colorist or devotee. I now satisfy myself with an occaisional "fix" at the churches of Boston and Maine which are graced with the windows I love almost as much. I am glad to know where I might indulge myself in the purchase of this book, as I had thought at one time it was quite hard to find. A truly fantastic guide to the great variety of Tiffany Stvdios shades and bases. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Japanese Tattoo Art
This book is a great reference for tattoo artists and other artists that enjoy the art of Japanese tattooing.

3-0 out of 5 stars fabulous photos, unique access, lost opportunities
It appears to be the sad fate of English-language books on the Japanese tattoo that they so rarely combine all the desired publishing strengths--first-rate photography, unique insights, disciplined writing, and careful documentation--in a single volume. And this is disappointingly the case with Takahiro Kitamura's "Bushido: Legacies of the Japanese Tattoo."The book includes, as previous reviewers have noted, stunningly beautiful photographs, and it benefits mightily from the personal access of Kitamura (who tattoos as the artist Horitaka) to modern practitioners of the Japanese tattoo. However, it is also the case that only a minute percentage of the book's illustrations are captioned and explained, the text keeps shifting perspective and voice, and the glossaries and index are inadequate.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Best tattoo book I've ever seen.Large, colorful pictures, detailed descriptions, and beautiful artwork.I had to drive all the way to Japantown in San Francisco to find the book because it's out of print or something, but it was worth the wait.Pick this up, you won't be disappointed... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The fountain pen bible
This is it.If you buy only one book on fountain pens, or if you are serious about fountain pen collecting, this is THE book to get.Unfortunately, it is Really expensive.Look around for a used copy using the usual suspects on the Web.The photos are great and the captions clearly identify each pen shown.Numerous non-US pen companies are written about and many pens are pictured here and nowhere else (in other standard pen ID books).Highly recommended.

Editorial Review

Sexy, modern, and unabashedly consumer-oriented, Art Deco was a new kind of style, flourishing at a time of rapid technological change and social upheaval. Lacking the philosophical basis of other European design movements, Deco borrowed motifs from numerous sources--Japan, Africa, ancient Egyptian and Mayan cultures, avant-garde European art--simply to create novel visual effects. 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Good scope and global reach.
Bought it - read it - refer to it as a source and to unashameably copy.
5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest book on Art Deco!
This book is an absolute triumph. First, it is positively gorgeous - the images just leap off the pages.Second, the essays are more in-depth, engaging, and informative than any other book I've found on the subject. This book discusses every facet of Art Deco as well: it explores the origins at the Paris Exhibition in 1925, goes through the influence in East Asia, Latin America, and South Africa, not to mention Europe. A great chapter on Deco in Hollywood; also explores all of the sources, iconography - and all of this on top of covering every aspect of the movement - ceramics, jewelry, fashion, architecture, glass, photography, graphic design, bookbindings, travel and transport, and so so much more - with stunning visuals.A fantastic read, a great resource, a beautiful work, and an absolute MUST for anyone interested in the subject! Well worth the money, and a fantastic addition to any library.Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars The first and last word on Deco.
A sumptuous coffee-table book of this exuberant art style and I think it could well become the standard book on the subject. The forty essays are divided into four sections, Sources and Iconography, 1925 Paris Exhibition, Spread of Deco and finally Deco World, and I liked the way, especially in Sources and Iconography, that the authors explain how various art styles were moulded into deco art which culminated in the very influential 1925 Paris show.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference for both beginners and advanced potters
Making Marks is an excellent reference book that both beginners and advanced potters can benefit from.It delves into all aspects of potting, and not only illustrates the results that can be achieved, it provides the "how to" for many of the processes.Any potter who has this book in their library will never run out of ideas for creating unique pieces.

5-0 out of 5 stars Books like this one -a definite necessity !
This is an exciting book, it is not just about painting marks on surfaces. The list of options is quite comprehensive from liquid slips, clay colour modifications, carving, underglazes,slip-trailing, lustre-ware and of course impressions and incisions made by tools.Robin Hopper is a master of clay due to the years he has be absorbed by it.He has used good quality work by various potters to display the different forms of decoration.
5-0 out of 5 stars For the dabbler or those needing inspiration to try something new
While I'm relatively new to the art and craft of pottery, I beginning to find my own voice in my work. This book is helping me to think about differnet ways to express myself in my work. While I will probably never go out and buy a sand blaster or work with lusters, I know I have the inital reference source I need should I decide to go that way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference - but a work in progress
I have been using this book since this edition was published. It is an excellent compilation of summary information about makers of Native American jewelry and other collectible wares.I expect that thishas - to this point - only about one-third or one-half of the people listed who make jewelry.I annotate mine with added marks for unlisted jewelry makers, together with summary information on them. When I can, I ask the artisan to autograph the book, preferably near the added information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hallmarks of the Southwest

Editorial Review

To take something as ordinary as wire and present it as a trueart form is an amazing achievement, and this book does exactly that.According to Suzanne Slesin, the story of wire as a component of usefuland decorative household objects began in Slovakia in the 17th century, where tinkers used thin strands of iron to repair household pottery. The art of wirework flourished and traveled throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the next century, becoming highly developed andquite popular by the end of the 1800s; utilitarian objects such asbaskets, bottle racks, serving dishes, plant stands, trivets, andbirdcages were both made of and embellished with wire. Sadly, wireornamentation as a decorative art is mainly a thing of the past, butbecause these objects are so sturdy, they can often be purchased asantiques. The book has a long directory of European and Americansources for wirework. ... Read more
