5-0 out of 5 stars Oz-some book!!
I only have 1 complaint about this book: it needs to be updated every few years!! This Oz "reference book" is an absolute must-have for Oz fans and collectors. It's like looking through the Christmas "Wish Books" from the department stores when you were a kid, saying, "I have that......I want that......I need that...!"
5-0 out of 5 stars Wizard of Oz collector's treasury.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Exhibition of Showbills
If you ever have a chance for a collector to show his collection, you run the risk of being terribly bored.Unless you yourself collect stamps, coins, thimbles, Hummel figurines, or Corvettes, you are unlikely to sympathize with the delight the collector takes in his hoard.Ricky Jay is a fascinating man; he is a master magician, a historian of show business (especially of novelty acts), and an actor in David Mamet's movies. He collects something few others do: showbills for the jugglers, magicians, animal acts, ventriloquists, and other eccentric and novelty performances through almost four centuries. Don't worry, it is far from boring.Around eighty of his specimens are on display in a large format book, _Extraordinary Exhibitions: The Wonderful Remains of an Enormous Head, the Whimsiphusicon & Death to the Savage Unitarians_ (Quantuck Lane Press). The broadsides are funny and beautiful, and Jay's learned and enthusiastic commentary about each one is on the page facing each specimen. It is all thoroughly entertaining, and like any show advertising, the posters make you wonder if the acts are really as described. There is so much verbal and graphic hyperbole on display here that a bit of incredulity is only sensible, but still: who, if confronted by an announcement for Signor Cappelli and his Learned Cats, with assurances that after he introduces his cats to the audience, they will "beat a drum, turn a spit, grind knives, strike upon an anvil, roast coffee, ring bells, set a piece of Machinery in motion to grind rice in the Italian manner with many other astonishing exercises", who, I say, would let incredulity overcome a wish to get a peek at the show?
5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Exhibitions - A wonderful book!
This is a wonderful book by a truly genius author. Also, make sure you put Ricky Jay's other books on your list.He has a great mind and his books are phenomenal!
5-0 out of 5 stars This latest Jay offering is a must-buy
Ricky Jay is a national treasure. He's the head curator of a continuing collection of the curious, marginal, sometimes macabre but always compelling congregation of entertainers who have slipped through the trapdoor of time's stage. His newest masterpiece, Extraordinary Exhibitions, is a catalogue of broadsides heralding some of the strangest performers that ever graced an auditorium or a sidewalk. You'll meet Pietro Stadelmann, a seventeenth century armless dulcimer player. As well as the nameless 27 year-old Angolan "Famous African Hermaphrodite".And a South American trio whose huge excrescences extruding from their chins gave them their stage moniker "The Monstrous Craws".You can sit at the feet of Joice Heth, the 161 year-old former nursemaid of Little Georgie Washington, the marvelous showman P. T. Barnum's first client. There's singing mice, educated fleas and a Rabbi whose demonstrations of his prodigious memory were endorsed by the Pope himself. To paraphrase the immortal Charles Fort, you'll see a procession of the damned of showbiz. And thanks to the wonderful Mr. Jay, they'll walk (and bark, tumble, juggle, catch bullets, arm wrestle, rope dance and eat stones) again. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Cool Little Book
Veteran guitar collector and store owner Dave Rogers serves as the guitar consultant on this book. Since I've been to his store, Dave's Guitar Shop, in La Cross, Wisconsin -- a great guitar shop you should check out if you're in the Midwest -- and bought a guitar there, I thought I'd pick up this field guide when I saw it. I'm glad I did. The book rocks. It's simply a fun little book packed with cool guitars and amps. You'll find all the major players -- Telecasters and Strats, Les Paul, Chet Atkins Gretsch models, Rickenbacker, Epiphone and the like -- but the book also features a Gretsch Penguin, Gibson Flying Vs and a slew of funky Danelectros, Kays, Moserites, and others. There's also a nice selection of Eric Clapton guitars that set all sorts of records at auction. Add another 50 pages or so of amps and you have a superpackage. The color pictures -- there's more than 400 -- are clean and sharp. Does the book have everything? No, but it covers a lot. The vintage guitar market is hot, so guitar prices are volatile. You might argue with some of the pricing but all and all, this is a cool little book. A great stocking stuffer for Christmas. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An authoritative 'must' for any who would deal in vintage guitars
Research in the vintage guitar instrument market blends with a user-friendly format, quick reference organization which lends to fast lookup, and insights on what influences vintage guitar values. Instruments covered in this official Guitar Magazine price guide range from inexpensive wall hangers to classics from the 1950s. Each listing receives a good-sized black and white photo to accompany company history, models and dates, and excellent condition low and high values. An authoritative 'must' for any who would deal in vintage guitars.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing!
The first 3 out of 5 guitars I searched for were not listed. Missing certain models of Kay, Dean, Silvertone to mention a few. When I looked for a model of Martin, that model was missing also. I found all of the models in a different price guide. And yes, all of the missing models are vintage.

5-0 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD book for ANY age.
I've been a Bond fan since my Dad used to take me to the public library so I could take out the hardback versions of Fleming's master spy.
1-0 out of 5 stars CRAP
This book was a load of crap. It was nothing but a bunch of boring common knowledge. They name a subject then give you 1/4 of the info on it. And there was only a couple pics of the bond actors except for Pierce who there was a lot of pics of. I think the author is gay for Pierce. The book was written like someone watched the movies once and wrote down a few facts here and there. I love the bond films but I wouldn't pay a dollar for this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book is fine, some of the reviewers aren't:
This book is done in typical DK style, a fabulous pictorial representation of the people and items associated with the James Bond series of films. If you want to know more about some of what you see on the screen, this is a good choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not your grandfathers NADAblue book
This book is great not just prices but a ton of knowledge that is extremely helpful... What to watch for and how to verify it... There are always those that try to get a little more than they deserve in any business... After reading this books hints and tips it is like you have twenty years experience in buying selling trading guitars... Many of my long time guitar experience friends are amazed when I come up with things that even they didn't know... Like serial codes that indentify what country their guitars were made... One of the biggest bang for the buck books I have bought in a long time...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference
I use this book as a reference in pricing. I have found it to be a very valuable tool for a starting point on pricing. Also, I have found it to be a very handy reference to locate model information without having to go to several sources. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in collecting or buying vintage guitars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only informative, but a great read!
As others have said, this profusely illustrated book tells you everything you might want to know about music boxes. As a beginning collector, I bought it to learn about the subject; steeling myself to deal with one of those dull scholarly tomes.I need not have worried. It is not only a technically rich resource, it is written with light-hearted style and grace and is a pleasure to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any music box collector
Ord-Hume presents an exhaustive work on the subject of music box collecting. This book has almost everything you need to know including identification of tune-sheets, manufacturers, music box styles and types. He includes a guide to values which is probably already out-dated, but it gives a good idea of what different boxes are worth.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for that Guitar Buff
My Friend has an addiction to guitars so I purchased this book as a birthday gift three days ago and he hasn't put it down. Great book, very informative and apparently addictive too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book
I use this book along with the Blue Book of Electric Guitars from the same publisher as a reference and starting point to price vintage guitars to purchase for my collection. I have found this book to be an excellent source for model information as well as a price point reference. I am not sure I would wish to venture into this collecting field without a reference such as this. I highly recommend both books to anyone interested in buying or selling a vintage guitar.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive book
The book is fairly comprehensive and has an adequate description of the guitars and features. Some guitars are not listed, and some of the models are hard to look up when a company makes a wide variety of models. The book seems to get superseded pretty quickly but is much cheaper than some of the other guides out there. Hopefuly the book is accurate, since it lists an imported Ovation guitar as having a solid top when most of those models are known to have plywood tops. If you buy the book on CD, the user interface is awkward. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
An excellent book! I have all of the titles in this series and plan to purchase Inside the Worlds of the Classic Star Wars as soon as it comes out. I think that they could have gone a little bit more in depth with this book, but you're talking to a Star Wars freak who could never get enough. I also think that The Attack of the Clones edition could have been longer, but overall, a wonderfull book of detailed maps and explanitory paragraphs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahh thats where they went...
An indepth review of the Episode 1 locations which are quite impressive, such as the Mos Espa arena and the Theed royal palace. An extention of the Pictorial Directory and Cross Sections, this book really explains alot of how why and where things happened in this first chapter of this tail.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another cross-sections...another good review
Finally, a cross-sections that gives the audience a look inside the buildings of Star Wars! Why they waited so long to release it is anyone guess, but the wait is over. If you've read my reviews for the other cross-sections books then you know how much I love cross-sections. That said, Inside The Worlds Of Episode 1 breathes new life into The Phantom Menace. Particular favorites of mine include Otoh Gunga, Watto's junkshop, the Galactic Senate building, and the Jedi Temple. Not only does the book talk about particular locations in the movie, but also the very planets that the movie is set on: Naboo, Tatooine, and Coruscant. Inside The Worlds Of Episode 1 is full of wonderful illustrations and is packed with amazing information. Indeed, it's the chosen one...of cross-sections books, that is. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST
This book had a lot of information I was looking for but not all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars - The Return on the Jedi....
The book is a marvelous resource of information regarding the value of virtually every Star Wars Collectible imaginable. As the author warns, it is a guidline document and so should be treated as suggestion and not absolute in the values listed. As such, it is a tremendous compendium of useful information...with a few errors. As an example, I have an item that appears to have been missed and so its value isn't addressed. There is also an entry error involving an erroneous photographic reference. And in a book this extensive, it's understandable. It is a great reference document and I am glad to have a copy.I recommend it highly!

1-0 out of 5 stars Whew!!!
I'm a Beatle fan from way back.Love them, will forever! As such, I buy every book about them, I have for years!A couple of years ago, this Hieronimus non-book came out. What a DISSAPOINTMENT!!! So BORING! Over and over again... the same info. It was like the author, Hieronimus (Bosch?) was some kind of street reporter, getting reactions from people who wanted to do nothing but sing their own praises. What a BORE!I couldn't believe such a trashy book would in any way start to explain how such a classic picture came to be, and it certainly didn't!
5-0 out of 5 stars Finding, and Reuniting Officers and Crew of The Musical Sub
"Inside the Yellow Submarine" is a marvelous compendium of first person interviews with the Sub's chief creative officers. 5-0 out of 5 stars Like a communal diary from the Yellow Sub
I've always been curious about this film and what the people were like who were behind the curtain. It's been well documented elsewhere that The Beatles didn't make this film, but I never read much about this crazy group of artists in the swinging London of the 1960s who did. Finally, in this book, we get to hear what these creative people thought about while they developed the revolutionary ideas that went into this film. And unlike many other authors of Beatles-related books, who tend to focus on the glamour of The Beatles' personalities instead of the work itself, Dr. Bob Hieronimus does not skimp with the quotes from my new heroes, the struggling artists who brought Yellow Sub from concept to screen. The book reads like a communal diary from all the participants. The absorbing style is largely comprised of first-hand accounts from the film's creators, organized in such a clever way, with just enough commentary between, to allow readers to reach their own conclusions of who among the film's creators were Blue Meanies and who were Pepperlanders.I, for one, wouldn't want to miss one word of them. It's about time they had a chance to tell their own story and be given a stage to do so. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars three stars
the poster art is a nice blend of american and foreign and nicely captures the evolution of the medium, but the accompanying text is seriously worthless, consisting of synopses for each film written in the worst middle-school syntax and replete with glaring typographical errors.it would have been nice to read some informative blurbs about the poster art itself, and about how hitchcock, a master or self-publicity, advertised his pictures more broadly.the cover shot on the book is from the buzz-generating psycho campaign, yet the text accompanying the psycho posters mentions nothing of the policy of excluding tardy movie-goers from the picture so as to maximize the experience.the interested reader may find a broader collection of images online, although without the crisp clarity of the photographs in this book.three stars primarily because of the disappointing text.

5-0 out of 5 stars if you like alfred hitchcock you will love this book
You have to have this book it tells so much about alfred hitchcocks movies ...

4-0 out of 5 stars A very colourful, neato kind of book
I enjoyed looking at this book - I got it from the library. It's got many posters and lobby cards from Hitchcock's works, all in colour. And it's not just the same ones you see everywhere. This has posters from other countries too. Some of them are really WEIRD. Especially the Polish ones. But interesting. I think you should give this book a try if you like Hitchcock. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Elvis Book!
This book is a must for any Elvis fan. Just read the foreward by actress Yvonne Craig who co-starred in two of Elvis' movies. This book talks about his movie career like no other book has done. The information is fun and educational. The book is illustrated with magnificent, unique international posters. When reading the book, it is as enjoyable as your favorite childhood storybook because the illustrations describe what has been written. The collecting section gives the novice and experienced collector useful and valuable information. This section is unique in that it describes many of the U.S. movie posters but also features information about collecting foreign posters which is not readily available to the collector. Finally, there is a special pricing section for the American movie posters which shows the increase in prices from 1983 to 2002 for the Elvis posters. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It does what it was meant to do, and it does it very well.
This is perhaps Mr. Wells' best Star Wars book yet. It's cleverly modeled after a the type of field guide used by bird watchers. It's very small (five inches tall, four inches wide, and a little over one inch thick), and contains a great SAMPLE of full-color images on high-quality semi-gloss paper. For example, there is at least one sample images -- and usually even more -- of each card type from the original Star Wars action figure line (Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Power of the Force, Droids, and Ewoks). There are also sample images of most of the new carded figures from the 1990s all the way up to 2004.And that's not all... There are sample images for dozens of other items, too! Vintage examples include loose figures, 12" figures, Topps trading cards, comic books, vehicles, playsets, lunchboxes, glasses, etc..Newer items include Lego, Hallmark ornaments, and newer trading cards, comic books, etc..
5-0 out of 5 stars great!
this is a great book i love it and its very interesting! Great information and pricing !

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy little pricing guide!
This book is not as complete as "Tomart's Price Guide to Worldwide Star Wars Collectibles", but it is far more useful as a pure pricing guide than Beckett's "Official Price Guide to Star Wars Memorabilia".It's small (about 4" x 5") but contains over 500 pages, including 250 color photos.
