From Cowboys to Cartoons
This auction catalog has the best variety of items from cowboys to cartoons, comedy to crime, creatures to classics, with your basic super heroes thrown in for good measure.It is by far one of the only books you can get that actually shows some of the most rare posters of the early 1900's.I was really impressed with the images and graphics reproduced in this issue.This catalog has all my favorites in it, especially the horror films.I also really liked the idea of seeing the lobby card images pictured on the same page as the Raven and the Black Cat.I would definitely recommend this book as a reference for anyone intersted in movie posters. ... Movie Posters of the Silent Era to color
It was an incredibly well drawn piece of work,and fun to color,too!It must have been a Herculean effort for the artist NOT to color it in himself!It BEGS to be colored! My children can't keep their hands off it,so I have to put it up high(it's mine,you know)Thank you for a wonderful time!

Book is excellent resource for beginning collectors.
Like many fans of Hopalong Cassidy I had toys and other items connected with the TV show collecting dust in my attic. I didn't realize how many Hoppy souveneirs I could collect.This book gave me price ranges but it also brought back some great memories with its detailed pictures and descriptions. Poor imitation
I thought this was going to be the BEST of the Famous Monsters I read as a kid, but none of that classic material was included,and the imagination of former publisher James Warren and editor Forrest J Ackerman is sorely missed.This is just a re-hash of the few issues of the magazine published without them.The writing is a weak imitation of Ackerman's lively style, ripping off patented puns like "You Axed for It" and "Beast Wishes".Even the cover is a 5th rate copy of a painting from the original magazine.I hear the current publisher of this volume lost a lawsuit for stealing Ackerman's nom de plume, "Dr. Acula".The Famous Monsters of the '50s and '60s was a cool phenomenon once, but the '90s incarnation is a pointless anachronism, since only nostalgic baby-boomers like myself are interested, and there are so many superior efforts dealing with the subject on the market now.Famous Monsters without Forry Ackerman is like a Beatles reunion without John, Paul, George, or Ringo.

Nice Packaging of Recycled Material
For horror fans who have to have all issues for their collections, this one will pass as a "good" one to have, but it ain't great. Regular FMOF subscribers already have seen most, if not all, of what's between the pages. I could live without it.

A BEAST SELLER
Some reviewers of this issue cry that former editor FJ Ackerman isn't included in it.Why should he be?This is a collection of great features from the new FM that Mr. Ackerman had nothing to do with.He quit the magazine in 1995 and the features in THE BEST OF FM, VOL #1 have nothing to do with him.Ackerman fans should go read old back issues.If they don't like the new FM, nobody is forcing them to read it.But discriminating fans of classic horror films will find this collection to be an outstanding, entertaining and informative read. ... Great informational book, hard read
This a very technical book with lots of information. Photos are in Black and white and could be in color for a better book. The information is vast and very technical and the reader can get lost in it. It is not a cover to cover read as the information is thrown in there and there is a lot of it. This book is a great book for finding information about a phonograph you have. It has all of the models and all of the components that made Edison machines famous. Definately a book to have if you collect phonographs, but to the average person, this book would be boring and too technical.

Great Reference Tool
As a new phonograph collector I found this book to be indespensable as a reference guide for all Edison phonograph products.Loaded with photographs and details, it is a visual and narrativeguide to themachines, cylinders, horns and reproducers. Frow provides the history ofthe machines in an informative and easy-to read way. This book is alsoloaded with interesting facts about the sales approaches used to sellEdison products during the early days! Great read and reference guide! The Bible for Edison Phonograph Collectors
This is really an excellent compilation, with photos, of every model cylinder phonograph that Edison produced from 1877-1929. There is a detailed history, year by year, model by model, and even accessories areincluded. It is truly the best book on the subject. If you have anyquestions on restoration of these machines, the best resource is by EricReiss, "The Compleat Talking Machine Book", but if you arelooking for an in-depth survey of the electric and spring-wind machines andinventors, this is the book.
