3-0 out of 5 stars Nice intro, if you don't know anything about perfumes.
This is a decent, solid introduction to perfumes, covering history, ingredients, classifications, notes (from top to base), as well as photos of perfumes grouped by types (from floral to chypres). And it's not too expensive! Not for the serious perfume/scent/fragrance addict, though. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, but ultimately uninformative
As an RPG collector, I've been looking for a good desk reference (I live & breathe the Internet as a reference tool, but sometimes it's nice to have an old-fashioned book...).
2-0 out of 5 stars Why bother?!
Do not be fooled by the words "price guide". The books fails profusely in that department. It can be used as a list of role-playing games, but there are plenty of those, most of them are better than this.Try to avoid this books if possible. I see no reason to buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Major Disappointment!
This book purports to be a price guide, but it is a mystery as to where the authors pulled out the prices for the products listed. The prices are way off from what items have sold for at any conventions I have attended orothers have attended, on usenet marketplace newsgroups or on ebay.I canonly conclude that the authors picked out the prices at random. The onlyredeeming point of the book is the listing of RPG material published.Butsince this book's title states that it is supposed to be an official(according to whom?) price guide, and that this was the primary reason forits publishing, I conclude that this book is a total failure as a priceguide that will serve no purpose for the purchaser of old RPG material.Inshort, this book should be avoided at all costs except for use as kindlingmaterial. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Looking for quality
An important book for students or all people who apreciate Coca-Cola advertising history. But the print quality of this book is very bad and the rason I gave only 3 stars rate. I have many others books about Coca-Cola and comparing some pictures on this book I can see a serious problem of quality of picturereproduction. The magenta canal, the black canal at the scannering time is not correctly adjusted. The reproduction of originals have primary errors! I hope this review sound like a special attention adivise for the editors. Dont do that please!

5-0 out of 5 stars A magnificently illustrated history of Coca-Cola's ads
The Coca-Cola bottling company was a major influence on the popular culture of America and the western world throughout the twentieth century. Their marketing slogans, images, and icons permeated every level of society. Never was this more true than in the case of the "Coca-Cola Girl", an image of perfect, wholesome, energetic American beauty that graced all manner of advertising in all medias. Now in a single volume, Chris Beyer presents a unique, accurate, detailed, magnificently illustrated history of Coca-Cola's advertising showcasing the use of women to promote an image encouraging the American public to make the beverage a part of their daily life style. Coca-Cola Girls: An Advertising Art History is a fascinating stroll down through the decades of the twentieth century that will appeal to the nostalgia of its readers and is a highly recommended addition to any Americana and popular culture collections.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE PAUSE THAT REFRESHES

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Ad Figures
If you are shopping for one reference book on advertising figures, search no further. Advertising Character Collectibles is the ideal book for beginning collectors and advanced collectors alike. The items pictured inthis volume are a realistic cross section of what is available in thisgenre. The high end, nearly one of a kind pieces are here right beside thecommon for Dotz shows no bias.Though it has been more than three yearssince the price guide was updated, the majority of the listings reflectcurrent market value. This is the book most collectors use as a blueprintfor assembling their own collections and I would know- As publisher of amonthly newsletter on advertising characters, I am in contact with hundredsof collectors on an ongoing basis.Advertising Character Collectibles is thebook most often referred to- It is our bible.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book, although, his first is far better.
I have read and enjoyed Tom Shannon's first KISS price guide since it was released in 2000 & have found it to be a VERY informative and helpful resource for pricing my collection. The prices are quite accurate and it is very thorough, covering nearly every item in the vast KISS memorabilia empire. It is a very well done book and the printing is top notch. I have been very eagerly awaiting Shannon's new book since I heard he would be starting another about two or three years ago. I purchased his new book "Warman's KISS Collectibles Field Guide" and in my opinion, it leaves much to be desired. Although this is of the highest quality printing, its thick & small 4 1/2" by 5 1/2" size makes it difficult to go navigate easily. Also the amount of info on the pages is very limited due to its small size. The tons of quality color photos he includes with his books are a big plus. It does feature the prices on the listed page rather than having to flip to the back of the book, which was the case with the 2000 book which is a bonus. Many of the old items that were in the first book are in this book. I was expecting much more of the newer items to be included in the book. Much to my disappointment, where some items may have been left out of a category in the 2000 edition, many complete categories are left out completely in the 2005 edition. This is a far better printed book than Ingo Floren's (released last year), although not as complete. If you want a GREAT price guide pick up Tom Shannon's first book. This one may fill in some gaps for newer items, but it is not a complete listing by any means. It does have an interview with Bill Aucoin that is very interesting. This would make a good traveling companion (hence the name Field Guide?) due to its small size.

2-0 out of 5 stars A good start that falls short.
Pepe Tozzo's Retro Electro sounded so cool that I preordered it sight-unseen. A good book on the topic of technostalgia is long overdue and I was eager to see what this self-described "only book to survey the trend" would contain. I now wish I had seen and browsed it beforehand. It's a neatly designed little book with some very nice pictures, but it is just falls too short of my expectations.
2-0 out of 5 stars A moment in time look at only some collectable devices
The book's descriptions of devices are far too short, and the prices it lists were out of date the moment the book went to print. Useless to true collectors, this book will see only limited use as a conversation starter. It'd be a nice thing to leave for guests in the bathroom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book that leaves you wanting more
A wonderful look at the electronic marvels we have around the house, along with past playthings long ago left in the dust by ever advancing technologies. My only complaint is that this book barely scratches the surface of what could have / should have been included. Speaking for myself, I would have gladly paid a lot more money to get a book that gave me more to see. As it is, an hour after opening the book, you are done, wishing for more. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars THE FIRST IS NEVER THE BEST
Jacobs must be given credit for producing the very first priceguide on homefront collecting. And Jacobs has assembled photographs of some fairly uncommon items from his pool of experienced contributors. But thats where the kudos end. It is mostly all B&W with just a few color. The organization makes it almost impossible to identify an item that does not have a picture. He lists two different prices for the same item on different pages. His coverage of the homefront area is poor. He wastes several pages on listing gum cards while completely failing in the areas like anti-axis where covers, cinderellas and postcards are just about all that is listed missing ceramics, toys etc in that subcategory. He has a slug of jewelry photos that someone obviously spent a great deal of time shooting but they are all in B&W completely subduing that contribution. And his prices are plain and simply not credible especially when compared to his V For Victory book which has many of the same items but radically different prices without explanation. Overall I'd say buy it just for the pics but throw out the price guide part. Its a woefully error ridden text. An obvious rush job. I give it two stars for being the first.
