Comprehensive Red Wing Reference
This is a very comprehensive treatment of all categories of Red Wing production.Rare, seldom reviewed pieces are included.I appreciated not having to refer to an index for prices (they are provided with each listing).Nice photos.Excellent general reference for Red Wing collectors.

Nothing new here
This guide has a little bit of information about all areas of Red Wing pottery.Unfortunately, it tries to do too much and in doing so doesn't do justice to any of the subjects.I believe new collectors will be confused by its organization.The good news is there are already lots of good books available on Red Wing pottery. ... A Disappointment
Unfortunately, this book promises a lot more than it delivers. For example, in its preface, it mentions several families of potters at Acoma named Lewis not related to Lucy Lewis, but they are not even mentioned.Even the section on the family of Lucy Lewis is barely 2 pages.The author for the most part barely skims the surface.I desperately wanted to like this book, but the more I read it, the more I saw was lacking.For one thing, it seriously needed a much better editor.It reads like a grade school student's social studies report, and it is filled with typos, the worst being that many of the photo captions are wrong because the photos were flipped and the captions were not corrected.A major disappointment for the price.Fortunately I bought it in paperback!It did have some good information, but it could have and should have had much more.

An EXCELLENT resource for those interested in pottery.
This book is an excellent resource if you are interested in collecting pottery from all peublos as well as a variety of families.Although not quite as in depth as Rick Dillingmham's Fourteen Families, she does mentionmany families that he does not. ... Read more

The Collector's Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery(B Roberts)
Though a fairly thorough bibliography of the Hull Pottery organization, this book is way too old(circa 1980!) to accurately depict today's collector market. Perhaps a collector's item now in itself, this book is in dire need of updating and revision. Referring to this edition as an "Encyclopedia" is an insult to readers and collector's alike. It also makes no mention of the extremely popular Marcrest "Daisy and Dot" line, for which I had hoped to find Good book!
I am a dealer so I use this book for pricing, but whether a dealer or collector this is a good book. Plenty of photos, price guide is right on the mark. I am satisfied with it.

VERY POOR PHOTOGRAPHY ON THE PASTEL ITEMS...
I BOUGHT THE BOOK TO IDENTIFY THE HULL VASES WHICH I'VE COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS, BUT I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I OPENED THIS BOOK.MANY OF THE ITEMS WERE ALMOST UNIDENTIFIABLE, DUE TO WASHED OUT PHOTOS OF THE PASTEL ITEMS - AND THE PASTELSARE THE ONLY HULL ITEMS WHICH I OWN.I WAS HARD-PRESSED TO BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT.THE YELLOWS, PINKS, GREENS AND LIGHT BLUES ARE SO PALE, AS TO NOT BE ABLE TO TELL WHERE ONE COLOR ENDS AND THE OTHER BEGINS.IN MANY PHOTOS, THERE IS ALMOST AN ABSENCE OF COLOR - EVERYTHING IS JUST A BLUR. IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR THE NUMBERS ON THE BOTTOMS OF THE VASES I OWN, I'D NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND THEM - CERTAINLY NOT BY THE PICTURES. Hundreds of brilliant color plates and expert essays.
I've read much of what has been written about Mayan ceramics and can say with confidence that this is the best book on the subject ever written. Good basic reference on American Limoges
Full-color photos on every page and current price values for each item are the pluses in this book. Many items are not actually identified, however, and names given to the pieces have been coined by the author. Even so, this one serves as a handy reference and guide to those wishing more information on American Limoges, the history and major pieces. Any person interested in Rookwood Pottery will find this book entrancing, both as a price guide and as an opportunity to admire great examples of Art Pottery.Of course price guides are obsolete the moment they start rolling off the presses, but the auction prices in this book will give you ballpark estimates for any similar piece you may have.Each piece of artist-produced art pottery is unique, so assigning values is difficult simply by using price guides and auction results.I bought the book because, after owning a few pieces of Rookwood throughout the years, you can't get enough.This book is great for admiring pieces of art you may never come upon in person. ... Overall a Good Purcahse
Wasn't as extensive as I would have hoped, I might have been expecting too much, and didn't contain alot of jars available on the market. But what it did contain was very good and I found very useful.

Collector's Encyclopedia of Cookie Jars, Book III
This book was not helpful at all.I have many older McCoy cookie jars and none of them were listed.This book mainly has new cookie jars listed.So if you are looking for a price guide for older jars this is not the book.

Roerig's Cookie Jar Book III Review
Found this extremely helpful, especially the photographs. I was thankful for pricing guidance that the author also included. Information of the backgrounds of the manufacturers was interesting but a found a few that were too brief to nothing at all. When selling these jars it is always good to be able to pass on that type of information to the buyer. History was not covered in this book as this was the 3rd book covering the subject. I was not happy with all the items marked NA(not available), RI(recent issue), etc. The book, in my opinion, is not up to date & has very little value to someone who wants to price out their collection

Collector Plates Guide
This book is one of the few out there that is of any value in regards to Collector Plates. Although it doesn't always give you an indication on todays current price, it does tell you what the issue prices was, and gives a guideline as to whether the plate is now worth more than what was paid for it, the same, or less. I deal in Collector Plates personally and as a business, and I do use the book as a reference tool pretty often. I do recommend this book as a general guideline to those interested in collecting or selling plates.

An exhaustive reference on a complicated subject...
This book is the standard for Belleek. It is crammed full of fabulous photographs of this lovely parian china. It contains an extensive history of the pottery and those who developed this unique ware. It provides athorough explanation of the process of manufacturing. It shows us thevarious marks, or backstamps and discusses their meanings. My only quibblewith the book is the price guide, which is somewhat incomplete and whichdoes not reflect the effect that online auctions have had on collecting.All in all, a wonderful book for the Belleek collector.

A must acquisition for collectors of this lovely Irish parian china. Covers history of the pottery, process of crafting and the names, marks and ware. Over 2,000 items pictured. A value guide of more than a 1,000 pieces, from various crafting periods, included as a bonus.

There are beautiful pictures of Belleek in this book, but to use it as a price guide is very difficult.For a piece, he only has one price for one mark, no other prices for other marks.For being an authority on Belleek, he could have made the price guide much easier to read. ... Read more

Leach: Myth or Reality?
It is interesting that in today's day and age there are still so many people who would defend the Old Man (Leach) to the death. In doing some research on Bernard Leach, I cam across De Waal's publication. He offers a healthy, dissenting view to the norm that Leach contributed so much to today's pottery. Will Leach's devout followers also tell you that he hardly ever threw his own pots, but rather had them made for him to decorate? That he dismissed traditions with the flick of the wrist, that didn't fit into his concept of ceramics, such as those of France, Italy or Scandinavia? Or that he preached humility, but was himself quite an autocratic character? That he had an exhibition in Seoul, while it was under Imperial Japanese occupation? That many people thought (and still think) his work to be quite bland? That ceramic sculpture was as good as non-existent to him? A poor, bitter book, with little feel for the master potter
Having been a pottery student, who then found a niche in the pottery world, De Waal has chosen to write a bitter attack on the man who was solely responsible for the renaissance of the pottery movement in Britainat the early years of the century!There have been few books that soarbitrarily set out to mock the artistic talent of Bernard Leach, aclear-sighted Edwardian man, born in the Victorian era, and who was to livethrough further reigns of another three monarchs. The pottery of De Waalhas little connection to that of what Leach was trying to achieve, and yetDe Waal has managed to make a name for himself, with virtually no nod ofhead towards the man who he chose to follow initially. A good Review of Leach's life with wonderful illustrations!
As I dove into Edmond De Waals book on bernard Leach, my interest was captured immediatley.Leach's early history and experiences in Japan were exciting.Even though I struggled with the pronunciation of Japanese namesand places I found the historical accounts were well written.When readingthis book I couldn't help but imagine myself making pots in Japanexperiencing Japanese tradition, culture, and the arts.Read more

As there are so many Blue Ridge patterns, I found that I had seven reference books to use in finding names for the patterns I owned.All of the books were useful.If you are serious collector, you will need this book.It is catagorized by the edge types of the plates.

Bella Italia!
This book provides a look at the history of Italian Majolica.I enjoyed looked at both past and present examples of the beautiful work of so many talented artisans.I would highly recommend this book to both new and current lovers of majolica.I would also rocommend visiting patriziaimports.com..they have a beautiful selection of items!

History of Deruta Pottery
I puchased this book for my wife who brought home some pottery when she was in Umbria. I was hoping for a book that had a lot of pictures of the different kinds of Deruta pottery. This book was a history of the pottery from 1200-present. Although it was not what I thought, it was still very informative and enjoyable. I would recommend to anyone who wants to find out the history of this beautiful Italian pottery
