5-0 out of 5 stars Great library addition for Silver Collectors
For all Silver dealers, collectors and appraisers, this book should be THE reference book on George Jensen; no library is complete wihtout it. The pictorials from a Jensen catalogue are indespensible for identying Jenson pieces, and the numbering scheme is detailed with the photographs, making the book easy to use and most informative. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Passion of Mine
As an egg artist of Fabarge style egg art, I highly recommend this book to other artists as well as those who are not interested in actually making this type of art. You will still be moved.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Faberge
Having just recently been in the Armoury at the Kremlin and seeing the Faberge Eggs they have there and being absolutely blown away by them I was very pleased to be able to purchase this book even though is was the 1990 edition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully photographed and intelligently described
This book is worthwhile whether the reader wants an introduction to Faberge easter eggs or is already familiar with these masterpieces. It provides a history of Peter Carl Faberge and his works. It includesphotographs of forty easter eggs, most of them being the Imperial eastereggs which were gifts from Alexander III and Nicholas II to their wives orthe dowager empress.Other less well known but also spectacular eggs areincluded. The photographs show the eggs and surprises to their bestadvantage. The corresponding descriptions provide information about thesignificance of each egg. There were some eggs in this book that I hadnever seen in other books, including Imperial easter eggs that apparentlyhave not been part of recent museum tours. I first bought the ChristopherForbes book in paperback, but returned it because I was disappointed withit.I will be keeping this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silver in America 1840-1940: A Century of Splendor
Silver in America 1840-1940: A Century of Splendor is a highly readable, well-documented overview of the of the development of the American silverware industry. The author, Dr. Charles Venable, has skillfully woveninto this study the historic, economic, and social factors that impactedthis industry as well as the influence that the silverware industry had inshaping the social rituals and customs of the era.Venable also provides agreat deal of detail on the production, technology, and marketing ofsilver. This book, although replete with marvelous photographs andillustrations, is not a pattern identication guide and readers interestedin such reference material would no doubt be disappointed. For thosereaders who are serious lovers of American silver this book is must readingand a necessary addition to one's library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bargain Price on a Beautiful Book
Boardman's book is great for looking at Bronze Age, early and classical Greek Gems, but only spends a few pages on Hellenistic Gems and lumps them together with Roman, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that, a beautiful book, almost a complete corpus of gems from the noted period. Very useful. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lost in collectible Jewelryland?
Lillian Baker's "100 Years of Collectible Jewelry" might help you to find your way, but only barely. The small opening section, with a brief history of jewelry, may be helpful to the novice...but is by no meanscomplete or even truly interesting to the seasoned collector. It will giveyou an overview of jewelry styles and some of the historic events thatprompted them, but will leave you wanting more. (Much more.) Thephotographs in the book are clear, but very small; not wildly exciting norrepresentative of all periods and jewelry styles. However Ms. Baker does gointo areas not generally covered...hair combs, hat pins and beaded purseare investigated although in a flash in the pan sort of way.Possibly themajor advantage of the book is the Glossary of Terms. If you are brandspanking new to collecting jewelry, this may be the most helpful andinformative portion of the book. Overall I would recommend the book forit's reasonable price and easy to chew small bites of information, but ifyou are interested in a compelling, in-depth view of the history ofjewelry, this book is not for you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE book for the beginning Bakelite collector!
I am a total novice who is just starting to learn about Bakelite jewelry, and even though this book is expensive, it's the best one I've seen and well worth the money.(I also have Tony Grasso's book but don't think it's quite as helpful.)Not only does Wasserstrom's book have loads ofbeautiful color photos (hence the high price), but it is VERY clear andanswers every single question that has occurred to me about Bakelite.Itis just loaded with valuable and easy-to-reference information. (Likecharts about which styles correspond to which dates, the differencesbetween Bakelite and other types of plastics, etc.) My only tiny complaintis there's no index (true of the Grasso book also). If you're interestedin learning about or collecting Bakelite, buy this book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Guide Book for Anyone Interested in Double Eagle Gold Coins
Dave Bowers has shown us all once again his superb writing skills and in-depth Numismatic knowledge with this fairly new release on what just may be the worlds most popular gold coin, the US Double Eagle. All that is missing from this superb date by date analysis of the US double eagle gold coins guidebook is up to date pricing information, which of course has seen many changes ( most to the upside) since the release of this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated & Overpriced
Although this book sounded great, it was very disappointing...A very expensive book for the little knowledge in it...Lots of pages, but little information....Has many manufacturer's advertisement pictures and pages and pages of the same pattern, but not very helpful as far as identification!!!Very limited manufacturers and patterns...I wouldn't waste my time or money on purchasing this particular book, even for the novice it covers very little, unless you just like looking at pictures...

3-0 out of 5 stars It's pretty okay
This book has lots of nice pictures and drawings that show good detail of the different patterns. There are lots of patterns to choose from including some that are very old. The only problem is that it doesn't really have a good variety of brands. Also, it took me a while to figure out where the values are.Once I figured that out, I got real tired of flipping back to the front cover over and over to see what my pieces were worth. However, if you've got the right brands this could be the perfect book for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic overall view of American silverplate patterns
If you have an old set of silverplate or odd pieces, especially older ornate pieces of flatware, this is a good guide, well illustrated, with many reproductions of original catalogs.I found pattern names of several oddserving pieces which led to a search for matching place settings. ... Read more
