Burn Baby Burn
This is a must for anyone who is serious about recording any audio file and reproducing it to the highest possible standard.

Great for newcomers to CD Burning!
For making audio CDs at home, this book covers it all. Not much hear for the experienced audiophile but newcomers to CD making will find much to gain by reading this book. Chapters cover vinyl-to-CD, Mp3-to-CD, cassette-to-CD and on and on. There is even a chapter that covers making "Enhanced CDs". That is, those CDs that not only play on an audio player but have additional functionality when placed in a CD-ROM drive. Much of the book discusses various audio editing software and what you can do with it. Highly recommend to all but those who already have
Not much for Mac Users
The book offers a wealth of information for PC users, but unlike the many very common guides which include illustrations for both Mac and PC formats, only 3 of this book's 200+ pages offer specific guidance for Mac-users. Read more

the best book ever!
I am an artist with a keen interest in psychedelic art, and found this book a very useful reference guide. unfortunately i lent to to a freind who tore most of the pages out. in W.A. i cannot get it anywhere so I thank youamazon for having it amongst your titles!

A pretty good book.
I've been a big fan of Greg's art directing work (in both Cleveland and Florida) for many years and he certainly didn't disappoint here. Given the horrible vagaries of the book business in general, I, for one, am glad thisbook exists. (And, he did "fair use" for most of the images,which is cool.) ... Read more

Lo malo: el libro; lo bueno: est? en espa?ol
Este libro muestra conceptos realmente b?sicos: solo para los que creen erroneamente que el audio digital tiene que ver con huellas digitales. Es una l?stima que sea el ?nico libro sobre la materia, que yo sepa, escrito en uno de los idiomas m?s hablados del planeta. Hubiera preferido la mala traducci?n al Espa?ol de un buen libro sobre el tema. Efectivamente: si bien el Sr. Valenzuela es compatriota mexicano, parece no interesarle reivindicar al Espa?ol como un idioma capaz de afrontar etimol?gica y lexicograficamente los grandes retos que plantea el desarrollo de la tecnolog?a. Orientado comercialmentre, en cierto momento parece un folleto de publicidad para Protools y AudioGraph International. Lo voy a usar por ahora como libro de texto en mis cursos iniciales. Pero sobre aviso no hay enga?o: el libro puede considerarse obsoleto no s?lo por la fecha de publicaci?n (1996), sino por su enfoque en general conservador, comercial y poco imaginativo. A Must Have Book For The Recorder Restorer/Collector
Van Praag does a wonderful job of bringing a great deal of information about old tape machines together in one fun to read book. Open reel recorder information dominates here, but the theory section covers compact cassette and 8 track as well. For readers interested in technical data, a section deals with circuit drawings. The photography of the equipment is very high quality, it does justice to these old machines. Van Praag's style is matter-of-fact and rather relaxed. He is certainly a realist, you can tell he has spent many an hour working on audio recorders. His how-to-do section on repair/restoration is thorough, funny, and quite accurate. Whether you just fooled around with a cheap toy recorder as a child, or made your living keeping the big reels turning, you will enjoy this book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has even remote interest in electronic equipment.This book is profusely illustrated and written in an entertaining yet informative style that will keep you reading for hours! This book will have special appeal to those who collect or have an affinityfor vintage electronics equipment equipment.

Outstanding book on audio tape recorders
If you have an interest in audio tape recorders, whether historically or an owner (I grew up with them), this book is excellent.There is none other like it.Coverage is complete with lots of great photos of taperecorders (like Elvis's Ampex 350 studio deck).If you are a hobbyist ortechnician, there are schematics and much repair/rebuild information.Iwas also a broadcast engineer and have recently rebuilt several Ampexreel-to-reel recorders.I searched everywhere for reference informationand there wasn't much, other than old service manuals.This book coversall the Ampex models plus just about everything else, and is just plain funto read.Many of the long lost home recorders I knew as a child areincluded.You won't be disappointed by purchasing a copy of this book. ... Good, but not great
Gives good mid-level technical coverage of the MiniDisc system, but unfortunately provides neither the general story of MD's development and marketing, nor the important technical details of the system. Some parts are not completely accurate (such as the description of the MiniDisc UTOClayout). A look into what makes MiniDisc technology tick.
Not for the technically illiterate, Jan Maes' "The MiniDisc" is based on a series of training sessions developed for Sony personnel in Europe. The book attempts to explain the technology behind MiniDisc from it's similarities to other optical formats (CD, CD-ROM, CD-MO) to it's distinctions (ATRAC compression, disc size, etc). Persons interested in what makes a MiniDisc system tick will get a lot out of this book. A glossary would have been helpful for those of us without degrees in audio engineering. Great informational book, hard read
This a very technical book with lots of information. Photos are in Black and white and could be in color for a better book. The information is vast and very technical and the reader can get lost in it. It is not a cover to cover read as the information is thrown in there and there is a lot of it. This book is a great book for finding information about a phonograph you have. It has all of the models and all of the components that made Edison machines famous. Definately a book to have if you collect phonographs, but to the average person, this book would be boring and too technical.

Great Reference Tool
As a new phonograph collector I found this book to be indespensable as a reference guide for all Edison phonograph products.Loaded with photographs and details, it is a visual and narrativeguide to themachines, cylinders, horns and reproducers. Frow provides the history ofthe machines in an informative and easy-to read way. This book is alsoloaded with interesting facts about the sales approaches used to sellEdison products during the early days! Great read and reference guide! The Bible for Edison Phonograph Collectors
This is really an excellent compilation, with photos, of every model cylinder phonograph that Edison produced from 1877-1929. There is a detailed history, year by year, model by model, and even accessories areincluded. It is truly the best book on the subject. If you have anyquestions on restoration of these machines, the best resource is by EricReiss, "The Compleat Talking Machine Book", but if you arelooking for an in-depth survey of the electric and spring-wind machines andinventors, this is the book.
