5-0 out of 5 stars Collecting Litttle Golden Books
This book is more than a catalog of photos of little golden books, it is packed with useful information. The information in this book has made it easier for me to determine a price for little golden books, and it has helped me know which little golden books to look for. I've already listed and sold some collectible little golden books at the prices given in this book, and I was surprised by how quickly they sold.

5-0 out of 5 stars A no-nonsense, easy-to-use resource
Now in a comprehensively updated fifth edition, and knowledgeably compiled by Steve Santi (a personal collector and professional dealer of Little Golden Books), Collecting Little Golden Books: A Collector's Identification & Price Guide features 3,750 black-and-white photographs, and offers 4,500 listings of author, date published, page count, and physical dimension information, as well as approximate current prices to help collectors identify and properly value a mass selection of treasured Little Golden children's books published in the past century. A no-nonsense, easy-to-use resource, Collecting Little Golden Books is very strongly recommended as an informational resource for collectors and dealers with its new sections on Golden Library of Knowledge, See Saw Books, Tintin, A True Life Adventure, Golden Stamp Books, Golden Story Books, Goldencraft Library Bound Books, and more.

1-0 out of 5 stars What new edition?
Book has same prices as 4th edition updated three years ago. It also drops the guide to other children's books (Wonder, Tell-a-Tale, etc.). Hard to find any useful new information. Sad, since we were looking forward to a real update. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Information and lots of pictures!
I like this book because it has an assortment of makers and not alot of history. There are alot of pictures and values which is what I am looking for.The pictures are clear. Most jewelry books seem to have inflated prices on the values of the jewelry. This book doesn't seem to be to far off base. But I'm no expert!I also like that there is a section on "Fakes".
5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book for Jewelry Lovers
Ann's book was such a joy to sit with. She has a beautiful selection of jewels and lots of little known information about various manufacturers.Written in a warm style (after her columns), I just had a great time reading it and absorbing her collecting tips. She has a good variety of manufacturers (some I've never heard of), and tons of pictures (with value prices). Her more than generous array of gorgeous pins and brooches from retro to enamels to you-name-it satisfied even me.My two favorite areas were the great fruit (and vegetable!) pins, and the bakelite and plastics sections. Super, super, super!!And she finished the book off with a section of wonderful vintage ads.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Very Best Jewelry Resource Published In 2004!
Ann Pitman's book, "Inside the Jewelry Box"is an indispensable reference. I have over 20 reference books including both books by Brunialti which I like very much. However, I continue to order other books of the quality and caliber of Ms. Pitman's book. Her book,"Inside the Jewelry Box" is my standard for ordering future reference books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Organized and good!
I have been seriously collecting only a few months now and have decided to sell. This book is well organized and the best of 3 reference books on flow blue that I have. The hard cover is a good idea since I think I would wear it down to stubs if it had been a paperback!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous resource
If you collect, are interested in collecting, or want to identify and value flow blue items, this book is a must. You can look up items by pattern, which are cross-referenced to the manufacturers' names. The book is full of color photographs of makers' marks as well as examples of hundreds of patterns on various types of pieces. The back of the book contains values for the photographed pieces.Another helpful feature is the section on reproductions. This is a great reference book.

5-0 out of 5 stars a must
A must have book for any true Mccoy collector. A lot of true Mccoy out there that is not marked Mccoy and the opposite which is not the real Mccoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Disorganized
While the book has beautiful photos, it is hard to use as a reference. Unless you know what the piece is exactly it is very difficult to locate in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is Too-Cheap for the Money You Save
The authors are fitting and devoted source whose familiarity and love about McCoy Pottery shine through. Every collector of McCoy Pottery should and MUST have this book. This book is aimed at all levels of collectors. It has the wealth of information needed to help beginners make sense of things that may initially seem confusing. With its color photographs, lists prices, and careful organization this book will be of use to collectors and buyers in need of a general pricing guide. In light of the fact that there are so few books on McCoy Pottery I am grateful to the authors for their effort and dedication. Thank you! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Warman's Carnival Glass
Beautiful colorful photos. Very easy to read and identify patterns. SO MUCH TO LOOK AT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
Another excellent identification book by Ellen T. Schroy. It is well organized and the beautiful color pictures are clear for pattern identification. She identifies the maker, the colors which were produce, the known forms, the identifying characteristics, and the prices at the time the book was written. There is a section showing and describing the colors of carnival glass, and an explanation of how to determine the color of carnival glass. Also included in the book is a time line and information about each glass company during the Carnival Glass era. This book is one of the best for identifying pieces of carnival glass. I use it more than any of my other books. It is my favorite! I highly recommend it to every beginning collector!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book about British knives
Very good review of all military knives of the British empire 1800-today. 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Cutlery Compendium
This is a highly impressive work. Every individual item discussed is keyed to an individual text and is often accompanied by multi-views and enlargements. In many cases, there is documentation, many of which are letters from manufacturers and government procurement agencies. There isvery little referencing to previous works. This is not an omnium-gatherumnor a synthesis of existing works. It is a new beginning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Also makes a great gift for the over 60 crowd...
I've given away several of these reproduction catalogs as gifts and they're always a big hit. Instantly, the recipients open the book and start studying its pages, remarking at the prices and oohing and ahhing over the more curious items of the day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for historians and a priceless piece of Americana
How nice that someone has preserved both a piece of history and a part of the legendary and much-missed Montgomery Ward stores. If you study or write about history, you'll find this a fabulous reference of period styles, furnishings, and common items. Fun to read as a curiosity piece, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A time capsule of what they wanted out on the farm in 1895
This "Montgomery Ward & Co. Catalogue and Buyer's Guide" from Spring/Summer 1895 is better than a time capsule. Most of my ancestors were still on the far side of the Atlantic that year, but for my maternal grandfather's ancestors here are 25,000 items (most of which are illustrated by woodcut) that they could have either had in their homes or dreamed about owning. From straight-edged razors and high buttoned shoes to tea gowns and the New Improved Singer Sewing Machine.Historically, Montgomery Ward prided itself on being the friend of farmers and the official supplier to the Grange.Ward was the first to offer a product guarantee that became the key to earning the respect of rural consumers and building the business. However, in 1887 Ward's main competetior Sears put out his first catalog and upped the ante by showing the customer what they would be buying before they bought it (okay, he also offered lower prices).By the time this 600-page catalogue came out in 1895 Ward was following suit.Flip through it and see what sort of amenities were making their way out to the farms at the end of the 19th-century.You could buy a buggy for $60 or spend $200 on a piano. Here you can get a bathtub, chairs, watches, hats, and even a Star Raisin Seeder. How about a solid-gold eighteen-karat wedding band for only $5?Looking through these pages will give you a sense what it was like in 1895, when the average worker had to put in 16 hours to earn enough money to buy a hair brush or 260 hours for a one-speed bicycle.Just looking through the pages of books you could order was enlightening.Actually, this is more like a time machine than a time capsule. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Much ado about nothing!
What a letdown! While this book purports to cover the period 1950-1975, I was sadly disappointed to find that it completely omits one of the most important musical influences of that period, DON COSTA, who was a noted arranger-conductor, master of the 12-string guitar, a performer in his own right, and a man who influenced the careers of many well-known performers like Frank Sinatra, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Johnny Mathis, Ferrante & Teicher, Paul Anka, and the list goes on. Don Costa's fabulous arrangements have appeared on labels such as ABC-Paramount, Columbia, Mercury, United-Artists, and his own label, DCP-International. Don Costa was a true musical genius and as such, he was hired to be the musical director of a major Boston, MA radio station when he was only 15 years old!... One can only wonder what other important performers or facts were left-out of this book, and such omissions only serve to cast doubt on the seriousness of the data that did manage to find a place between the covers of this publication!

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book that, perhaps, bites off too much
This is one of the best price guide books for American records. Due to its detailed information and clearly organized listings, it surpasses all previous publications in its scope and usefulness. It adds artists notpreviously mentioned in past price guides but does omit artists on asomewhat arbitrary basis. Why Getz and not Gillespie etc.? For the artistsit does include, much hard work is reflected in the thorough discographieswhich list reissue information and pressing chronology with great accuracy. Obscure artists with limited product are, as is common with books of thistype, omitted. For the money, this is the best book. Only Osborne's RockinRecords covers more ground, but in less essential detail. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If I could give it a higher rating, I would
Completely indispensable text for the weaver, curator, researcher, student, collector or just plain curious. Not a theoretical text; rather, the intent is to enable the reader to identify any basketry work produced by Native North Americans from the Arctic to the Southeast.5-0 out of 5 stars The book I longed to find on this topic.
I first learned of this book from a basket trader in Tucson who was explaining why I could never find any Pima baskets that matched a photograph in a booklet I had. He suspected the photographer used a brownfilter to enhance the appearance. He pulled out a copy of"IndianBaskets" to show me the difference and told me if I was serious aboutbaskets I needed to get this book. In it, I found along with beautifulphotographs large enough to see in detail of many tribes' baskets: anencyclopedia of information including a list of tribes that still madebaskets with descriptions of the designs each uses, detailed drawings anddescriptions of the many different stitches used in baskets, a chart thatcan be used to find which tribes make baskets with your favorite stitches, and even a list of prices for baskets sold a few years ago. It was the bookI longed to find on this topic. The one obvious omission was a list ofsites where tribes sell baskets today, but fortunately that information isreadily available from other sources. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful guide for antique lovers
I read this book wearing two hats.I am an antique junky and have traveled the country, always searching for antiques.I spent 25 years in the San Francisco area and am quite familar with all signifcant dealers , up and down the West Coast. GLADYS MONTGOMERY, you were on target and hit the high spots, both to stay and shop, like no other book i have read.
2-0 out of 5 stars Where am I?
I've just returned from one of the weekend excursions in this book and wonder where the author did her research. In the midwest section Ms. Montgomery writes about Alton, IL & St, Charles, MO as antiquing destinations. She specifically lists the"Kane County Flea Market" held in St. Charles, MO.I planned a trip to St Louis to line up with this event about an hour outside of the city.Imagine my suprise to learn that the Flea Market is actually held in St. Charles, IL about an hour outside Chicago (and nearly five hours from St Louis). If you decide to buy this book be surecheck the actual facts before embarking on any travels. ... It is extremely informative, giving a brief history, manufacture dates and much more information for each company listed. I would definately recommend this to anyone with an interest in collecting or selling pottery.

3-0 out of 5 stars Extensive?BUT Not Easy to Use!
This book has a LOT of information! When you do find what you are trying to research there is extensive information about the company. HOWEVER, the book is not indexed well. The index is down right skimpy. When trying to look-up certain words or wording found in a mark there is no reference to these things in the index. So a tedious process of looking through each page many times insues.5-0 out of 5 stars And So It Was Done
Years ago I hunted high and low for a book on American ceramic wares, agenre who's time I saw closing fast. It was suggested once that I writeone. I am glad I didn't take the challenge as my work would surly havepaled severely in contrast to this marvelous, all inclusive work.LoisLehner gives the subject the depth, scope and respect it deserves. This is'the book' on American marks on pottery and porcelain its authority isnever questioned. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets
With records becoming more and more plentiful, it does lose a little of the obscure stuff it used to carry. However, it is a MUST for any collector!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the think you need for a lifetime hobby.
Ever wondered how much one of those 45s you have is worth? Here's the place to look. Not every artist is listed but with every new edition, more are added. I have a first edition which contains over 30,000 or so entries. The reason why I asked what I did above is beacuse if your collection contains older records or records that look just like the day they were first sold, you could probably have a collection worth thousands of dollars. Some songs are available on different labels, ones that are easy to find rather than ones that are rare on other labels. I saw that a near mint copy of "For Your Precious Love" by Jerry Butler and the Impressions on the Vee-Jay label is worth $10,000. A very good codition of that record is over $1,000. If someone has something rare like that or colored vinyl, they are lucky!! If this is your hobby whether you've started or it's been with you all your life, you shouldn't be without this book. RECOMMENDED!

3-0 out of 5 stars A good book...if you're into rock
I guess I should have spent a little more time thumbing through this one before picking it up.I have Mr. Neely's current LP price guide and it covers a good variety of styles of music.I assumed this guide whould be equally diverse.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exhaustive Coverage of Everything they Made
I've always wondered about the heavy German use of motorcycles with side cars. And I've been fascinated with the German use of the half track configuration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome must have !!!
This book is really gorgeous on the outside and even more so on the inside. It has in depth descriptions of the different types of lures and their parts and gives great incite on how to date such lures and parts. The print is is large and bold and the color pictures are stunningly printed on heavy bond glossy paper. There are pictures throughout the book of just about every lure imaginable. I promise you will not be disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars A must have for Wright collectors, if you don't have a previous edition
We've been collecting RW since 1998, and have hundreds of hard to find and many one of a kind pieces.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just the pots, please
I just started collecting Russel Wright dishes, and was looking for adefinitive reference guide to help key out the pieces I had. I thought thisbook had a lot of helpful information about determining pattern andmanfacturing locations, but I was a bit disappointed overall. Though thecover of the book features only pottery, the book itself has examples ofall that Russel Wright created in his long, prolific career-- all the waydown to the radios and lamps. It would be great for the diehard RW fan,but I wished it just focussed on the pottery.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for any beginning Wright collector
I am so happy to have gotten this book.I knew little-to-nothing about Wright, and Ann Kerr's book lays out all kinds of information about the man, the artist, and his art.I haven't had much of a problem without an index,as she has all the information chaptered out, and it is all easy to access. The accompanying photos are excellent and there are many. She alsoexplains any areas which may be ambiguous, such as color, size and shapeanomalies. Due to getting this book, I often know more about the pieces Ifind than the dealers do, as she tries to fit in every piece of informationthat she has, on every aspect of thecollectible items. I love this book! ... Read more
