5-0 out of 5 stars Hazel-Atlas Glass by Gene and Cathy Florence
The identification and value guide are very easily read. The pictures are of great help in identifying the various styles of Hazel-Atlas glass. There is a brief history of the glass from 1885 until the factory was sold to the Continental Can Company in 1956.All in all, well worth the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Florence Glass Book
I was really impressed with this book.It filled in many of the little identification gaps that I had missing as a glass collector. There are so many items listed here that were not in his other books. It was enjoyable.......I read it in one day.......informative.....I was able to id many pieces.....and beautifully illustrated.I like the outline key too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading to identify and know arrowheads.
This 223 page's book is an excellent introduction to the world ofprehistoric amerindian projectile points and arrowheads. In some very nicephotos and inscriptions you could find the "keys" to what youcollect, their relative prices, regional classification and chippingtechniques. A simple and practical relation describes the U.S. materialsused to make arrowheads and blades including all the regional types, edges, shapes, individual characteristics of each piece and instructions to takecare with them. Indispensable to begginers and advanced collectors thisbook certainly attempt the amateur archaeologist's expectation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource
Once the reader is able to get by the occasional editorial oversight, any serious student, artifact collector or just someone interested in Paleo-Indian/Native American artifacts will find this book an excellent and most enjoyable resource. It is both easy to read as well as full of pictures of these hard to find artifacts.Beautifully photographed...that in itself makes it worth sitting down and enjoying.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mistakes
As previous critiquer noted there is an error in the book RIGHT OFF THE BAT! Could ANYONE have proofread this and missed it?It made me not trust the rest of the book, valid as it might be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but flawed
This is a BEAUTIFUL book, and well-worth the relatively low Amazon price. However, there are some flaws in it, which might make its usefulness a tad questionable to serious students of Paleo-Indian artifact values and identities. Several pictures are incorrectly ID'ed (see page 6 and 7...the same picture is used for a fluted point and a clovis point. The same thing happens on page 97. This is probably the result of carelessness on the part of the type/image setter, not the author, but it does make one wonder. The images are spectacular (and I'd give my eye-teeth to find any ONE of them), so ignore my carping and purchase this book. It is huge and loaded with full-color photos of points and tools that will make your mouth water. I want to go to Ohio and hunt for artifacts! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE Jewelry ID book!
This is a one-of-a-kind book! I looked through two dozen jewelry ref. books looking for one like this! The author gives you clear, colorful photos...but also lots of useful information about each designer and company. Ever wonder how to identify whether a Trifari brooch is old or made last year? Ms. Carroll will give you dates of markings on certain years to look for. I've learned so much from this book. Thank you, Ms. Carroll! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Save your money!!
Getting this book is no longer important anymore. With the technology of the internet, the comic book collector can now surf the internet and check out comic book sites for current prices of old comics. With the latest of the stupid CDGing where you have to put comics into a sealable plastic shell so you can't take it out to read..............

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate pricing trends
Glad to see that the Guide is still correcting the overpricing that has plagued editions of this book in the past.Of course, dealers will be upset to see this downward correction (notice the anonymous reviews signed "a reader").But for the comic buyer, this is a step away from greed and towards making comic book collecting an affordable hobby again.
2-0 out of 5 stars Trimmed back, seriously incomplete
I have bought many of Overstreet's Price Guide issues, including every one of the first twenty years. Every year it became more and more accurate and comprehensive and I depended on it to give me details on almost every comic in existence including underground comics and limited editions.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No Use To Me
I have yet to use this book in any real-life, practical way.It is too big to bring to sales and takes too long to research stuff if you did bring it with you.By the time you found the item you were interested in, someone else would have snapped it up.My experience in buying has served me much better. This book has become another shelf-space-eating dust collector.

1-0 out of 5 stars Total Waste of Money
I am sorry, but who ever thought this book was in any way helpful in teaching people to "Price it Yourself" was oh so wrong.I was so excited about getting the book and when I opened it to find nothing but page after page of words with only a few drawings to back them up... I was, oh so sadly, disappointed.I guess it might work IF you were to come across the exact item(s) discribed throughout the book. It's like trying to read an encyclopidia, only not as informative.I tried to get through it, but put it down after five or so pages. It's off to the Goodwill, so if you want it, look for it there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Title Misleading-Not What You Think
I bought this book thinking it would help me in my new venture of antique collecting. While the authors are very well-qualified in this subject I feel as though it wasn't written for the average person. This book WILL NOT help you when you go to your Saturday garage sale or flea market. The book spends way too much time on furniture and the second half of the book is all 'practice appraisals' which are for objects the average person will never buy or be able to afford.I felt like this book had a certain 'snob' appeal and if you can afford to buy a $5000 or $10,000 piece you probably have enough knowledge without having to consult a book.(I was stumped because the practice appraisals don't list a value for any of this stuff).Save your money and buy a book that directly relates to what you are collecting or hoping to find. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars "A shelf of books bespeaks the soul whose hands have put it there."
A wonderful read about the world of books by one of the preeminent writers on the subject of book collecting.Using the word 'subject' to describe the passion of books is akin to using 'subject' to describe love or any other passion.Blame that on me,if you will, not Nicholas.
5-0 out of 5 stars A most enjoyable book about books
This is a great book for anyone interested in collecting books, or who likes books, or even anyone just interested in what makes a book collectable.Different people adopt very different approaches and strategies to book collecting and Basbanes documents a number of them. The eccentric madness of it all is what makes it entertaining and I found that this quickly became a hard book to put down. After reading this I suspect that I will never look at books the same way again. The fundamentals of book collection are not unlike other forms of collection, so people who are self confessed "collectors" (You know who you are!) are likely to find this an exciting read.In among all the entertaining yarns is a pretty good starters guide to book collection, and this book contains a number of practical pointers to web sites and book sellers to get the novice started.Overall it was really enjoyable to read and very much a page turner.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Indispensable Resource for Any Serious Book Collector
In "Among the Gently Mad," Basbanes declares, "the more you read or read about reading, the more you will uncover about other books."And, the more, it seems, you will get to know an ever-expanding circle of people who collect and/or sell books. All their stories are here...what they collect, how they collect them, how much they spend and on and on until the value of this book is almost hidden under their weight.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best shopping guide yet!
This book is fabulous. Not only does it explore (and I use the word "explore" because these listings go way beyond mere addresses and phone numbers) about 500 vintage and contemporary designer resale stores all over the U.S., Canada and Online, but with the information offered on each store (what kind of merchandise is carried, price range, return policy, store owner's personal collections, description of the store itself, etc.), I feel much more confident about shopping for my newest passion, vintage clothing (almost like the authors are holding my hand and walking me thru).I also found the section that describes designers from the '20s to the '80s, along with an explanation of what was going on the world during those times, fascinating. The glossary of fashion terms is also helpful, and I loved the listings of vintage expos all over the U.S.The quotes from costume designers, and learning about vintage pieces worn by Hollywood celebrities, is definately a fun bonus.Bravo!

2-0 out of 5 stars This book is not worth the money
This book is basically just a list of resale stores in some bigger cities. The same information could be obtained in twenty minutes with some basic research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Costume Design Apprentice says: Best Book Out There!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE ONE TO OWN!
THE BEST BOOK TO OWN. INEXPENSIVE AND PRACTICAL ADVISE ON HOW TO CLEAN AND REPAIR FRAMES,SILVER, BRASS (THE ONLY PLACE I'VE SEEN BRASS CLEANING THAT WORKS) TRUNKS, POTTERY, AND LAMPS. YOU DON'T NEED A WORKSHOP OR ART SUPPLIES TO USE MR. MCKENZIES' RECEIPES FOR REFURBISHMENT OR REPAIR. NO COLORED PICTURES, JUST DRAWINGS, IT'S THE TEXT THATS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE BOOK. IF YOU CAN READ, THINK, AND FOLLOW VERY SIMPLE DIRECTIONS, THEN USE THE PRETTY COFFEE TABLE BOOKS FOR INSPIRATION AND THIS BOOK FOR REALIZATION. I USE IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to do fix it up instructions, also good marketing tips.
This is the most helpful book I've read that in very succinct style tells how to buy, fix up, and possibly resell antiques and other second hand stuff. If you love "shabby chic", but can't afford the prices, this book will make it easier to achieve that look. This book is not forpeople who worry about getting their hands dirty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific book on how to fix antiques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Standard Price Guide to U.S. Scouting Collectibles (Standard
What a great resourse book.A must have for the avid collector or the novice.Besides collecting, it is a great companion piece to learn about the Boy Scouts and 20th Century Americana in general.I commend Mr. Cuhaj for all the work and time he put into creating this. I'm so glad some one thought enough of me to make this a perfect gift for the Scouter who has everything.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Year 2001 U.S. Scout Collectibles Reference Work
This is the 2nd, updated edition of the popular volume. Its 400 pages feature more than 750 nice black and white photos and a 16 page full color section. There is adequate text to accompany the photos, and it is fully indexed to aid in item location. All major levels of scouting are featured, along with collectibles, council listings, glossary of terms, memorabilia dealers, collector organizations, museums and reference works. It's an essential guide for scout collectible enthusiasts.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Standard Price Guide To U. S. Scouting Collectibles" 2nd Ed
This is an excellent book for anyone who collects Boy Scouts of America memorabilia such as insignia, pins, books, Order Of The Arrow, just about anything that has been involved in Scouting. It details many items extensively, and provides price ranges based on condition. The first edition did not have an index, and it was rather difficult to find certain items, but Cuhaj corrected that in this second edition. The magnitude of this book is tremendous, providing over 11,000 listings, most with values for buying, selling, or just trading. There are a few pages in color, while the rest is in black and white.I would have preferred all items in color, and would have been willing to pay more for the book.If Scouting memorabilia is your forte, I highly recommend this book with a 5-Star rating. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Abundant, gorgeous color plates.
I, like you, want to own Daybreak--perhaps more so than any other painting.Sometimes an illustration entertains, perhaps greatly. Some evoke admiration, even gaping admiration. In the case of several Parrish paintings, admiration is merely the aftertaste of a much more powerful emotion: the craving to be in the space the artist has created, to have or to be the characters therein.A desire to truly exit this world and remain in the other. The list of works that affect me in that way starts off like this:It's A Wonderful Life, Oz, Narnia, Harry Potter's magical England, Parrish's Daybreak & Land of Make-Believe & Air Castles et al., Robert Heinlein's Glory Road, ERB's A Princess Of Mars...We read or watch or view them over and over again in an attempt to ease the longing.4-0 out of 5 stars a gem, if only for the explaination of parrish's technique
Recently, I had the pleasure of viewing the Parrish exhibit mounted by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.My experience was that much more enjoyable as a result of owning and reading Ludwig's book. The book, asidefrom the dutiful enumeration of Parrish's accomplishments, provides atreasure trove of Parrish's work; so much so that only three or four of theworks were "new" to me.The explaination of Parrish's techniquesis an absolute necessity to Parrish afficianados. It makes you crave aviewing of the actual works.5-0 out of 5 stars The book made me more in love with Maxfield Parrish Work.

3-0 out of 5 stars American Air Rifles
This book is an excellent introduction to air rifles, pellets and the ballistics of air rifles. It would serve as a good guide to someone interested in purchasing an air rifle for hunting or plinking. The cover indicates that it covers target shooting, small-game hunting, complete ballistics and pellet selection. The latter three items are covered. However, there is essentially no information on target shooting or rifles designed for target shooting.I realize that the book is limited to American air rifles, but at least the Daisy Avanti models could have been included. There was also a lack of discussion of triggers, a critical rifle component for accurate shooting.I would have rated the book at least 4 stars, if it had not given the impression on the front cover that it included target shooting and target rifles, which was the reason that I bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My husband's love of airguns(all guns).
I purchased this book for my husband who loves airguns(all guns), hence the title. He would not put that book down until he read the whole thing! Especially about the Benjamin 392, which is his personal favorite(if you could pin him down to choose a favorite). In his own words,"It is the best book written on American made pneumatic "pump-up" Air rifles that he has read to date. It has plenty of statistics on fps and fpe and pellet accuracy just to name a few. Also great info on small game hunting using "magnum" powered airguns". I am very pleased with my husband's pleasure with this book and I would imagine any airgun buff/collector would not be complete with a copy for his/her library.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Read
Mr. House's book on air rifles is a good informational book for the masses. It may fall short of Mr. Lumley's expectations but it is fine for the rest of us.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended
I bought this book and actually returned it because on just about every page there is an advertisement for their other books. I found that very distracting and annoying. I do have their glass book which is very good but in the Antiques and Collectibles book they should just list their other books at the end and use the space for more info which it needs. ...
