The Teddy Bear Men: Theodore Roosevelt & Clifford Berryman
Here it is. Everything you wanted to know about the cartoon that started the teddy bear craze 100 years ago and more. Linda's research is incredible and her writing style is very warm and personal, sort of like teddy bears. The book is also packed with illustrations in both color and black and white. I especially liked reading the history of Berryman, and how the cartoon of Roosevelt saving the bear came to be, about the two cartoons depicting the famous event 100 years ago, and about how Roosevelt did not actually spare the life of the bear tied to a tree, just refused to allow it to be shot. Any arctophile worth his or her salt should have this book in their collection! Bravo on a fine volume, Linda!

A MUST HAVE for adult teddy bear collectors
As an adult collector of teddy bears, I have read many summaries regarding the 1902 Presidential bear hunting trip and the Clifford Berryman cartoon that began America's love with the newly created "teddy bear".Almost every book for adult collectors has some version of this story in its introduction.I found Linda Mullins' The Teddy Bear Men to be a superior and detailed account of the real story.Mullins wisely included the highlights from the November 1902 accounts from The Washington Post, which clearly recounted how and why a bear ended up being tied and presented to President Theodore Roosevelt for him to shoot.Washington Post cartoonist, Clifford Berryman, then portrayed this incident in a cartoon, which may be familiar to many collectors.The cartoon bear that evolved from this initial cartoon became Berryman's artist symbol ("dingbat") and linked the teddy bear (both the Berryman cartoon and the toy versions) to President Roosevelt's political career. This book is a well researched documentation of Clifford Berryman, Theodore Roosevelt, and of the significant contribution they made to the rise of the first teddy bears.It is presented in a reader friendly manner, with a well written text, short chapters, and many photos and drawings on each page.I found this book to be both intelligent and enjoyable. ... Great bear making book
Out of all the bear making books that I have, this one is definitely the best as it contains patterns for really cute bears. It's probably not a book for complete beginners, more for those who have already made a bear or two and would like to develop their bear making skills. ... Read more

Disappointed
I was a bit diappointed with the Cherished Teddies Collector Value Guide. The values are over-estimated, compared to E-bay and other secondary markets. There is not much in the way of information. All the Cherished Teddies are not in there. Basically just a lot of pictures, with release dates and price list. Contains sections for keeping records, and information about insurance. Nice to look at for wish list. A "fast food" approach to collecting. I would like to see more about the artwork, history, and what makes some Cherished Teddies more valuable.

Very Handy
This book is handy for organizing your collection, and a MUST for any collector! It was essential in determining how much insurance coverage we should add when we married. Also, I have found it to be extremely handy for spotting Rare Bears and retired pieces, and the bookhas been a useful tool in online auctions.

Great Guide!
This is an excellent source for Muffy bear collectors of all ages. The pictures and tips provide excellent resources to determine edition, completion, and price status. Ann offers a modest price guide in the back of the book that sets reasonable expectations for today's value of the bears. I would like to have seen documentation of all of the accessories. Most bears have pictures, but there are a few that do not--and many of the accessories and club pieces are not pictured or priced. Overall, a great source of information. Well-written! ... Read more

Binder owner with Questions
I just recently dusted off my binder and tried to go to the website listed on the back. No site found. I searched for the binder on Amazon and found that the updates have been disc. I'm so disappointed because I thought it was best one offered for collectors. FYI, the last binder published was a Final Millennial Edition that includes a 12/31/99 Retired section. The one I have is signed by Peg, also. If anyone knows why the updates never happened, please respond.

This is copyright 1997? I dont believe it almost!
Well,I seriously disagree with the people saying that "This book ismore for serious collectors than kids". I am just 9 years old and thisbook is so clear and detailed! It is so much better than 1997 Beanie Babyhandbook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The BB handbook '97 only shows theBeanies they have, and not good pictures either. Beanie Mania has perfectopictures and they mention all early and a little late 1997 Beanies. And I'mhappy they don't say "Put those Beanies in Ziploc bags" TY madeBeanies for kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved it...you must have it!
This was my first BB book I ever purchased.It is chock full of color pictures and info and facts about each beanie.It has- chronology, tag history, collectible ranking, market trend analysis, information guides, oddities and charts for the reader to fill in with their own beanie info. Anyone who purchases this book will refer to is over and over.Both Beckys need to create an updated book with the l998 info. Great for Pooh Fans!
This book is a great reference for anyone who enjoys collecting pooh.I recommend it to any collector.The only complaint I would have is that:there are two books, "Winnie the Pooh Collectibles" and "Winnie the Pooh Collectibles II".I do not think this site did a very good job of distinguishing between the two.I am looking to buy the first book.

I am really sorry to say, but this book was a disappointment to me. Lots of pictures, but all small, odd-coloured (orange, reddish), straight from some old selling cataloques. The teddies were a minority compared to the other stuffed animals. Furthermore, there were not many pictures of the old Hermann teddies, the vast majority of the teddies were quite new or newer.
