5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on Matchbox Toys.
Its a big book and plenty of clear colour photos of so many examples throughout.covers every era of Matchbox toys. This type of book is superior over the wide but short books printed by this publisher. There is so much information here no matter whether you are devoted collector or just love looking at the old toys you had. This book will please most people. Its good value and high quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Matchbox reference book !!!
This is a great reference book, full of details and history aboutevolution of Matchbox toys. If you love Matchbox, this is a must. CharlieMack is a true expert on the subject, and this is for sure the mostcomplete and updated information about the subject. The only complains are:cover picture is not representative at all. Pictures are excelent but couldbe larger for the "reg. wheels" and "miniatures", andseveral rare cars and boxes are ommited (no space probably). However,"Tomart's Price Guide for Hot Wheels" have a much better andcontemporary graphic design and many more pictures in a smaller book, andalso with more description of individual models.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia of Matchbox Toys Review
I feel this is a great book. Why?It has very much attention to the details of the hobby. The pictures are helpful. They price guide is quite accurate and good for reference.Mr. Mack did a wonderful job putting thisbook together.Alot of time and energy must have went into the book and itpaid off.I recommend it to new and experienced collectors alike. Greatbook! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pinball book with high quality pictures
You can't go wrong picking this one up. A must for any pinball enthusiast or beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For A Pinhead
This is a wonderful work of Pinball Book Art.I checked out this book from my local library and it is a must have. The book is heavy and very well made. The photos are very detailed as well. The book takes a certain aspect of the game such as scoring and breaks that parts of the game down, while the next chapter may focus on pinball sound. The book has so much information in it about history, features, and rare pinball features.A book of this size is bound to have a few mistakes and this book has a few small mistakes, but those are very minor and this is a very detailed work and there is no way one man can know it all about pinball. If you enjoy the game of pinball, you need to check out this book.It will not show you how to repair or maintain the game, its focus is history about the game and its evolution over time.I hope you enjoy this book and also keep enjoying playing the wonderful game of pinball.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book's price guide needs to be changed completely!
I feel that the price guide was very badly placed, it is in the back of the book. The listings of the cars were in alphabetical order to some extent. I prefer the prices to be right under their corresponding cars.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must need book for serious Hot Wheels collectors
I came across this book while shopping at my local bookstore, I started looking through it, and without a moments hesitation, I knew I needed this book. It is very good as a refrence book, also for giving me information onmy collection. Very well done book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly organized and difficult to use
Due to the organization of this book it is extremely hard to locate any particular diecast unless you have the diecast number or item name or designation. Photos are very small and indistinct making it hard toidentify items. It appears that not all diecasts produced are listed inthe yearly listings nor are all photos shown.Overall rating on thispublication is 2 stars or less! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Marble Book!
Easier to use than some of the other marble "standards." It is well organized and the values, based on the condition of the marble, arewith the marbles. Some of the other books have you constantly flipping fromback to front to find a value. The different types of antique handmademarbles are logically grouped for the most part and the machine mademarbles are divided by manufacturer. There is even a section with examplesfrom contemporary marble artists. My one complaint would be that thereshould be an index to make finding of the great many types of machine mademarbles easier. Until something better comes along, I carry this with me toauctions, flea markets, antique shows or anywhere else I think there mightbe an opportunity to buy, sell or trade marbles. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!I love this book!
This book filled my burning desire to know everything about dollhouses & furniture from the last 50 years. There are no gaps of missing information or omitions of important items in this detailed andcomprehensive book.Quite a relief after seeing an army of inadequatecollector books flood the market.I'll have hours of fun reading this.Myonly complaint is some of the photos are dark or of poor color quality.Iwant to view these things in their full glory.

5-0 out of 5 stars A walk down the memory lane of my childhood!
This book is jam-packed with useful info, great pictures, and a very enjoyable writing style.I found myself constantly saying "I had that -- I remember that -- my friend had that one!"The book has been my constant companion ever since it arrived. What's more, it has sparked a new interest in collecting the old tin litho houses from the 50s and 60s -- items I had all but forgotten when I moved on to 1" scale wood miniatures.Thank you for a truly remarkable book, one which many of my friends will be enjoying, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST comprehensive book on contemporary dollhouses.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Buy for Beginning Builders
Depending on what your interests are, this can be a valuable addition to your library. It is not for collectors, in my opinion, and most of the examples are on the "folk art" side: crude, kitschy, and sometimes even made of junk. There are profiles of a few builders who make complex automata demonstrating fine craftsmanship, such as the wonderful Keith Newstead and John Grayson. I would have preferred to have some detailed explanations of how some of their automata work, though. The REAL strength of this book is if you are beginning to make your own automata and would like to have a "kit" to experiment with. The book contains full sized plans for an experimenter's "kit" which is really nice. I have Robert Addam's "How to Design and Make Automata" and CMT's book, but they both only have crude drawings with no dimensions. I made photocopies of the parts and then used Xylene to transfer directly onto plywood and cut the parts out on a scroll saw, saving a great deal of time and giving me a nice litte platform for experimenting. This alone makes the book a must have for the beginning builder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! Great color pictures and diagrams
This has got to be one of the best books on the subject of automata and mechanical theatre. There are lots of great color pictures and diagrams to build your own automata. Worth the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars The stuff that dreams were made of...
In the brief introduction to this book the editor states, "If there ever was a "Golden Age" of Western Civilization this was surely it. In the following pages one can see both the reflection of yesterday and the seeds of the future, for few things in our culture are able to capture the sense of the times as are the trivial artifacts we give to our children to play with." Well, these were the playthings that the richest nation in human history gave to its children in the Golden Age between 1951 and 1969. The entire world offered their finest toys to America- but none were finer than those made by our own manufacturers (Marx, Ideal, Mattel, Remco, Kenner, Lionel, Gilbert...)
4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful But a Bit Pricey
The Big Toy Box at Sears is a compilation from the awesome Sears Wishbook catalogs of the 1950's and 60's covering boys toys.It is one heckuva a trip down memory lane with cap guns, foto-electric football, GI Joe, slot cars and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blue Book Dolls and Values, 16th Edition (Blue Book Dolls and Values)
THE resource for all your doll questions on values and dolls.

4-0 out of 5 stars Misses the mark in several categories
Although the Blue Book is the avid doll collectors' favorite price guide, it contains numerous categories that have not been updated for quite a number of years.China, parian, papier mache, and wooden, some of the earliest dolls in existence, have been gaining in popularity for several years now and the market prices, both at auction and online have been rising considerably. The Blue Book has not caught up with this trend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with ideas crafts and collectors alike will appreciat
In Dolls Of The Art Deco Era, dollmaker Oroyan provides a survey of the history, makers and collectible items of the art deco era, providing both a step-by-step set of instructions for reproducing the style of doll popular in the era and covering the history of dollmaking during the era, and restoration techniques after. Packed with ideas crafts and collectors alike will appreciate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, inspiring: Another Winner by Susanna Oroyan
For those of us who admire, collect, make and renovate 1920s and 20s-inspired art dolls, Susanna Oroyan has written a thoughtful volume focusing on boudoir dolls from the Art Deco period. Although the topic is covered better visually in another of my favorites, "The Magic and Romance of Art Dolls" by Stephanie Farago, the strength of this book is in Oroyan's excellent research, writing and wonderful storytelling ability. Her fresh and fun-loving writing style shines in this book (the illustrative drawings also are quite good.)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A personal treasure
Flora Gill Jacobs shares her collection as though you were able to spend months with her personally. If you ever wished you could get in to the archives, to really and truly speak with the expert, to understand the particular details of other time periods, to hear the adventures of acquisition, this book will will be deeply satisfying. This is no dry catalogue.Anyone with the slightest interest in the architecture and artifacts of the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth century will be enchanted. Surely those who have the imagination to mentally inhabit a small scale world will appreciate the beautiful photography.Collectors will find the pictures invaluable. The images present the objects as you might view them yourself.First the overall view and then many of the fine details separately.Mrs. Jacobs writing draws the reader close, whether you are a child transported by imagination or an adult collector searching for information. If you are interested enough in this topic to read the reviews, then you certainly will be satisfied with this book.

Yes, the book is generously illustrated and the how-to section is informative but Mr. Kiwus is an average talent and this book seems to be more about self promotion than the art of toy sculpting. For a look at some truly wonderful sculpture one only need pick up a copy of Toy Fare, Wizard, Previews, Toy Review or any number of related publications. Certainly, Randy Bowen, the father of the mini-bust and comic related sculpture is more deserving of a book reviewing his remarkable career. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor binding mars otherwise terrific book.
A beautiful book filled with beautiful pictures of beautiful (and bizzare) Japanese toys. What more could one ask for? Well, how about a book that stays in one piece for more than 30 minutes. After less than half an hour of gentle reading the wraparound cover became unglued from the rest of the book. I'll glue the cover back on and cross my fingers nothing more comes loose, but this is a hassle, and not the first time such a thing has happened with a Chronicle Book: my copy of Eric Kohler's "In the Groove" found itself In the Trash soon after both cover and pages came loose from the el-cheapo glue binding. Message to Chronicle Books: it's the 21st Century, and high time books be bound to last more than a day. Either have your current printer improve his binding, or get a new printer. And yes, I'd be willing to pay a little more for better binding. My rating: content =5 stars, presentation = 1 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe it . . .
I, too, am disappointed by the negative reviews of this book.Collectors (which, sadly, I am not) will recognize that this book is not intended to be a catalog, but a showcase of some of the strange and beautiful Japanese toys.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book very comical!

3-0 out of 5 stars Pressland's Not-So-Great Book of Tin Toys
Time for a reality check, folks. I tracked this book down because I'm a tin toy freak, and I read all kinds of glowing words about the book itself, re: production, photography, etc. Turns out it's a treat for tin toys up till WWII, but almost laughable in its coverage of post war pieces. Also, the production isn't all that great -- nice tin piece attached to the cover, but on my new copy the red cover was bubbled in one spot, and there were pages stuck together with glue. The photography is okay, but not spectacular, and the production values are pretty much routine for a picture/text book like this. The slipcase is boring in design -- in short, I've had coffee tables that looked more spectacular than this coffee table book.5-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth the Price
When I first considered spending this kind of money for a book I was convinced that I had surely lost my mind. Now that I've had it for quite some time I can say that I would have paid more.It is a gorgeous bookwith beautiful pictures of rarely seen tin toys.If you're a collectorthis is absolutely a "must have"!It, along with Pressland's"Art of the Tin Toy" have been our prominently displayed coffeetable books for months and guests, who may know nothing about tin toys, thoroughly enjoy the book as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must Have
I can sum it up with one word "Excellent&quot ... Read more
