Turned to many times...
This book is terrific! Tons of color, detailed pictures. I am a collector, and use this book to help identify which tiny accessories I need to find or identify. Invaluable! The focus is on toys from 1964-1990 ONLY, so if you collect from other periods this isn't the book you need. If you collect Little People (pre-1988), you need this book! I hope the authors will update it, with the "new" Little People included in a future edition.

Excellent Pictures of the Toys with Very detailed desc's
I love this book.IT is a MUST for anynew and seasoned Fisher Price Collector, especially those who collect Little People.The Pictures are great and the descriptions are excellent.I love this book, and my kids enjoy looking through it as well.It brought back so many memories from toys in my past, and ensures I know what I am getting myself into if I decide to make a purchase as a collector.

Fantastic world of J-bots!

A JAPANESE ROBOT LOVERS DREAM COME TRUE!
My love affair with Japanese robots began with the Transformer toys of the 1980's...those generation one beauties that were at least part die-cast metal compared to the plastic versions of today.But as a collector my obsession grew once I found out there were Japanese Transformers that were never released here in the states, or were variations on the American versions such Twin Cast a re-colored version of Blaster which cold hold two of the mini-cassettes instead of one, or Sound Blaster which was an awesome black repaint of Soundwave.But as I started to get into collecting these Japanese versions I started finding other interesting toys...Macross I had been aware of for some time, mostly as model kits.And I knew that Takara had licensed a version of the transforming Valkyrie that would be called Jetfire.But then I discovered Popy, Bullmark, and Takatoku, among others and began learning about Mazinger and the Jumbo Machinders and so many others.
Pure Super Robot Joy
Finally, an English language book about the Japanese toy robot phenomenon that swept the world in the 70s! Awestruck by Shogun Warriors and Micronauts in those days, I always suspected there was much more to these mysterious visitors from Japan. As an adult, I have rediscovered my childhood robot friends and have been learning about them and even collecting them. If you are just starting on this path as well, this book will be like finding a long lost family album of Super Robot relatives that you never knew existed!

A cool little gift...

DAZZLING SAMPLING OF TOYS FROM THE GOLDEN AGE
Attempting to put out a comprehensive collector's guide to toys has always seemed to me to be an exercise in futility.Still, that doesn't stop many companies from trying to do just that, resulting in a telephone book-sized tome with tiny print to match for the literally thousands of listings inside.This of course means very little room for pictures.Thankfully in Charles Dee Sharp's book "The Wonder of American Toys" there is no pretense of trying to put out a comprehensive guide.Rather that we have is a celebration of toys from the golden age of the 1920's through the 1950's and an eclectic collection of toys accompanied by brilliant, full-color photography.While Sharp does give a price range on all of the toys contained in this 336 page hardcover, it isn't meant to display the rarest or most collectible toys.Rather this is a sampling of the types and styles of toys produced during this era, regardless of value.The price ranges go from under $100 in price up to thousands of dollars.

Good marble identification book
Excellent book for identification of marble types and values, and for general history of marble manufacture and select manufacturers.Grist details characteristics of marbles to identify the manufacturing method and general production dates, but you cannot identify marbles to manufacturer or more specific production dates by this book.Excellent pictures and selection of marbles. Overall, this is a good quality marble book.

Really Great Book on Marbles
As a serious marble collector, I think this book is invaluable.It's informative and very well put together.I believe it could also work well for non-marble collectors.Marbles are pretty universally fascinating and this book can inform anyone about the worth and characteristics of marbles.

Awesome, Usable, Filled with Information
Shawn Peterson's Collector's Guide to Pez is filled with useful information on prices and availability of almost every Pez dispenser ever made.Along with wonderful, colorful photos and great details, Peterson has included great information for both beginning and advanced collectors of Pez products.His information on convention, collectors groups, and bargain hunting are particularly useful as a resource.In a hobby as fun and varied as Pez collectiong is, a great tool is needed.Peterson's text is the Bible for lovers of Pez both young and old.This is the only book you need whether you are a new collector or an old pro.It is definetly worth the money and will be a great addition to your growing Pez collection.

An Essential Guide For Any Pez Collector
Many people like myself collect Pez dispensers. It is a wonderful hobby to have because it is virtually impossible to find every variation of every dispenser there is. Sometimes there are many different variations of a single dispenser, for example the colors that were made. This is where this guide comes in handy. In here you will find colorful pictures of almost every known dispenser made, along with pictures of some different variations. This helps you know what you are looking for when you want a certain dispenser. Listed also are estimated values of the dispensers, which is also helpful in giving you an idea of what that certain dispenser will cost you normally. Also pictured in this book are different inserts from the packages, different displays that were available, different flavor packs that have been packaged with the dispensers and even Pez with unique or foreign packaging. A great find
I received a tip about this book from my daughter's preschool teacher. They use it for school and when I picked it up, I expected this to be a teacher's manual. It does have lots of education material and should be a class! My husband and I enjoyed the funny little stories and I really got some great tips on the kinds of toys to buy for our preschool daughter andher newborn sister. Already, we have more toys that we probably need but this is a great guide to help us as the girls get older and then ask for everything. It really helps you put a value on the dollars you spend on toys these days. This is a great book for first time parents to read before they start toy shopping. There is a great chapter about technology toys.

I just love this book!
I can't stop reading this book! Each chapter is better than the previous one and there is SO much I learned about toys. I'm pregnant with my first child and my mom bought me this book as a gift. She told me that I need to know everything about toys now so I do not make the same mistakes as my siblings who bought way too many toys that my nieces and nephews rarely play with. This is an amazing resource for preschool and kindergarten teachers too and the best part is that this book does not dictate what toys are the best. The reader is left to decide that based on what the authors have taught you. It's really a parenting book and class all in one!They have a website too.... toytips.com lists tons of toy reviews based on research for you to review.I LOVE that! I've looked at other websites that have reviews and opinions of a few parents and their experiences with specific toys but this is so much better than that!Great find. Great buy! Thanks, Mom!

From an Emergency Room Nurse
I read this review from Fagan (below) and have to add to it. I am an emergency room nurse and we see many toy-related injuries. Most could have been prevented. I think if parents took the time to understand the importance of buying age-appropriate toys and then took the time to play with their children, we might see less accidental injuries. I bought a copy to keep at the hospital for our health care workers who will benefit from reading this book. It's nice to see two authors who care so much about what they write about. This book explored the 'types' of canine collectibles one might find in the marketplace, but it didn't address the 'value' of these collectibles, which would have been much more insightful.The content was purely fluff with little substance to offer a true collector.

First rate
An essential guide for the fast food promotional toy collector, this fine book lists each and every one of the toys given away with Happy meals in the 90s. If you choked on it, it's in here. It even had listings and recent auction prices for some of that weird "McCrying Game" merchandising. A must.

Thorough with step by step instruction
I echo what the other reviewers have already said. Excellent intro to wood toy making provided you have or can get access to tools.Good step by step instructions.This book is a good way to develop your woodworking skills without being overwhelmed.

A Great Toy Book!
This book is great for making fun, easy projects that make great gifts. I have made a total of four trucks from this book. This book is a great way to introduce woodworking to kids. I would reccomend this book to anyone.
