Wonderful history/reference book
A unique book covering vintage horse drawn vehicles of the 19th century. Besides the well written text, I found the illustrations, photos and diagrams amazing in their detail. Standard Catalog of Jeep
Beautiful illustrations and a great amount of information. Very enjoyable as long term Jeep owner and enthusiast.

Good but dissapointing.
In addition to the first reviewers comments; this book also omitted the optional Perkins diesel used in the 1960s in CJ-5s and CJ-6s.This engine was used domestically.The F-head is listed as standard in the 5/6, the V6 is listed as optional in the right years but no Perkins is listed.I can almost understand not including export engines, but it is sold as a standard catalog of the Jeeps that were built in Toledo as I understand it.Omitting options that are fairly well known among enthusiasts domestically and overseas keeps me from giving this book a better rating.

The book was good, but it did not cover all the jeeps :0(, I expected this to cover all the jeeps ever built, but it completely missed the 2.4 litre and 2.7 litre diesel CJ5's, CJ7's, & CJ8's that were built in Ohio for export.

Does anyone know if this book is available as a cd rom

An indispensable tool for collector car enthusiasts.
The Standard Catalog of American Cars is the best source for in-depth information on all makes of American cars. In addition to thousands of photos, the catalog includes specs, serial numbers, production totals, and current values on a 1 to 6 scale. Specs include original prices, weight, options, engines, overall length, wheelbase lenth, locations of factories, and much more. It's a great first source for anyone that's thinking of buying an older American car. It arms the potential buyer with enough information to have an intelligent conversation with anyone selling classic cars. With the information in this book, I've talked to sellers and knew more about their car than they did. As an old car collector and hobbyist, I've found it to be an indispensable tool. A great reference book for trucks.
There are not many reference books on light-duty trucks out there, and this is an excellent one for someone researching a certain vehicle. It fits what I was looking for.

Most definitive Truck reference currently available.
While I found a few minor errors in some of the model information, I have to give this book a good review. All the makers are there including manufacturers that I had never heard of. There are hours of excellentbrowsing of the little guys as well as pages of excellent, and usable,information on the big names. My only major complaint with the book is thatI am not happy with the paperback format. I would like a book that holds upa little better. Otherwise...Excellent reference work. And fun too! ... I expected a superior book because the Knous's background is so impressive on the subject of railroadiana. Must have guide for restoring your vintage gas pump
Benjamin and Henderson have authored a well respected series of books about gas station memorabilia and history. They also publish the magazine Petroleum Collectibles Monthly. This book has step-by-step illustrations of visible glass cylinder lever action, clockface meter and electric computing gas pumps. Excellent introduction to the great airships of the past.
Most books on airships are written by specialists, experts, or those who had a part in the development of the great dirigibles. John Toland is a interesting exception, an extreamly accomplished author who turned his attention to the subject. This book is a re-titled (and only very slightly re-edited) version of his book 'Ships in the Sky' from the fifties. Due to the original publication date, he was able to interview many of the principle figures in the stories, most of which took place in the twenties and early thirties. Most everyone is familiar with the Hindenburg disaster of 1937, but this book will introduce them to many other facinating accounts. He covers the R101 disaster, which was the British avaiation equivalent to the Titanic. Also included is a excellent account of the Italian 'Italia' drama at the North Pole (get Wilber Cross's 'Disaster at the Pole' if who want a book entirely dedicated to that event). Also covered is the United States Shennendoah, Akron and Macon crashes. Perhaps the highlight is a minute by minute (more like second by second) account of the Hindenburg crash.

A well researched work explaining airship disasters
This is the first book I have ever come across that painstakingly details the demise of airships. Toland has recreated conversations and personal details from countless sources and testimony. Eachaccident and triumph iscovered in detail. I loved this book. It is a must-read for any airshipenthusiast.

A Guide to Models With Comments on Desirability/Value
The Mustang represents the difference between cars designed by financial types from those designed by car types. Just before the Mustang the need for smaller cars became clear. McNamara was in charge of Ford and his answer was the Falcon. I don't know of many people who think the Falcon was the high point of Ford's history. Lee Iacocca took the basic Falcon, put new skins on it and the Mustang was born. We are now in another period where the financial types are in charge, and the blah cars and the red ink coming out of Detroit show it. ==It's been forty years since the Mustang came out in 1964, and even the original ones still look great. In fact you might argue that the originals were the best of any of the Mustangs that followed. ==This book spends over half of its pages describing the various Mustangs that were built. The back of the book talks about restoration. But don't expect details on how to restore a car. This part covers things like maintenance and where to get parts. It is fairly general in nature.
