Editorial Review

To take something as ordinary as wire and present it as a trueart form is an amazing achievement, and this book does exactly that.According to Suzanne Slesin, the story of wire as a component of usefuland decorative household objects began in Slovakia in the 17th century, where tinkers used thin strands of iron to repair household pottery. The art of wirework flourished and traveled throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the next century, becoming highly developed andquite popular by the end of the 1800s; utilitarian objects such asbaskets, bottle racks, serving dishes, plant stands, trivets, andbirdcages were both made of and embellished with wire. Sadly, wireornamentation as a decorative art is mainly a thing of the past, butbecause these objects are so sturdy, they can often be purchased asantiques. The book has a long directory of European and Americansources for wirework. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for the Moebius technique!
I accidentally purchased this volume before the first one, having already played around with the Moebius. Its brilliant, and I've made and felted 2 of the projects already, with a couple more started - so its good value for money! Its very easy to understand, plenty of photos for technique, and her writing style is easy to read, so this is not too hard for the novice, like myself, who likes a challenge. Best of all, its good fun. 10/10

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Disappointed!
I was pre-warned about the "chit chat" that takes place in the book. There are many paragraphs were nothing is said. I was more interested in the patterns and techinques than the chit chat. The patterns are awesome and very interesting. For anyone who is not an advanced knitter - this book is still worth the money... getting started is the hardest part.I also want to recommend the Turbo needles that are suggested - they are worth the money also.

5-0 out of 5 stars CHANGED MY THINKING ON KNITTING!
I will follow Cat's knitting wherever she takes me!!!! If your looking to get excited about your knitting again,or if you've never knitted---learn with Cat. Her illistrations and directions are some of the easiest to follow and I can't wait till she comes up with some new stuff. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best on the Market
This is far and above the best book I've encountered for New Scrappers.Instead of just showing layouts, explanations are there to show why a layout works, how to do it and simplifies the mystique behind all the necessary tools and not so necessary tools.I wish I had bought this book before spending money on stuff I didn't really need. You won't regret this purchase if you are a beginner and it also makes a great gift for someone thinking about scrapping.Guaranteed to rev your creativity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great information for the beginner
If you are new or fairly new to scrapbooking, this book will help you with organization, picture taking, details about products you will need and conservation and storage. The book also includes stencils and templates which can be removed and used on photos and cardstock. The spiral binding is an added plus because the book lays flat when open. Well worth the purchase price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scrapbook Teacher
This is a great book encompassing every aspect of scrapbooking for the beginner and experienced crafter. It's easy to read and understand, offering a great deal of layouts. I couldn't put it down. This book will definitely take the fear out of beginning scrapbookers and challenge others to try new techniques. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Making pieced curves simple
Very informative and easy to follow directions.Makes you want to start immediately to make a quilt.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very informative but expensive
This is a good book not only for the beginners but also for advanced quilters. It will give you a few original quilting ideas with original designs.I found the chapter or color/light theory very informative and useful. On the negative site I found the book rather expensive which prvents me from giving it five stars.Amazon discount is certainly very helpful...

5-0 out of 5 stars Pieced Curves really is so simple
I found Dale Flemings book well thought out and visually engaging. The projects demonstrate the inovative techniques well. For the more adventuresome she does a great job of sharing her methods of coming up with original designs. Using her techniques you can piece anything you can think up. She has a great color sense. I enjoyed the wide variety quilts shown also. Its a great book for inspiration. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for building upon different techniques
This book is a totally practical guide to surface design. The step by step pictures of the processes are particularly helpful. The finished items where the author has built up a cloth through her repertoire of techniques are inspirational.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this first
If you are just getting into dyeing fabric or already have got your feet blue and orange and green from spills, this book holds lots of tips and tricks and just plain "how to".Dunnewold's book can be read and used as a reference or browsed and used as a stimulus for "what can I do today?"Organized well, straight forward text and good explanations.Get some dye and make your cloth complex...layers and layers and layers of lovely.

5-0 out of 5 stars good for learning the basics
excellent and easy to understand.this book is well written and really helps with learning basic fusing/slumping techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners and advanced glass fusers
A great book with a lot of helpful advice. It's not too technical and easy to understand. I've shared it with my other glass fusing peers and each of us learned something different from it. It's a short book and some of the projects are a little outdated but I did great ideas from seeing them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic review book
If you are just starting out (like you've had a class, get home, and say to yourself "now what do I do"?), this is a really good book to have on hand.It is an older book, true, so some of the kiln options, etc. are a bit dated. But the techniques of finding out if your glass is compatible or the annealing process are still very valid. There's much to be learned from this book, especially if you want the comfort of a good resource on your shelf and available. ... This book was good but not terrific. after reading best sellers like Why we want you to be rich by Donald TRump and God Doesn't run a $2 Shop by Sage Saint Francis i found that this book just was not in the same leauge.
5-0 out of 5 stars It ain't changed in the Boardroom
This book, taken with due care, is still the Bible for how to dress for success. There have been some contemporary changes in business dress. But if you are not a rock star or a computer whiz, don't bet your career that dressing like one will get you to the Executive Suite.
1-0 out of 5 stars A dandy is a flash chap

5-0 out of 5 stars SO WORTH IT
Beautiful examples, innovative approaches and inspiring photos. Get it, you won't be sorry!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you want to know about paperdoll history & creation
I waited eagerly for this book to be published, as I have been fascinated with the art paperdoll phenomenon on eBay and elsewhere (Claudine Hellmuth's "poppets," for example). This book has more than satisfied my hopes. The author, Terry Taylor, has organized the book in an unusual way, mixing three main elements throughout - the history of paper dolls, fabulous art dolls made by himself and other artists, and projects one can do oneself at any skill level.Instead of plowing through the obligatory history chapters before getting to the inspirational part, the book slides a brief but solid history of paper dolls in with the contemporary art and the project ideas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe I'm a slow learner, but...not simple enough
I was very determined to teach myself to knit, having gotten into knitting using cheater devises like Knifty Knitters. This book looked to have clear pictures at a quick glance, and I had high hopes for it.I can't say it completely let me down---I did learn how to knit and purl, but I can almost say I did so in spite of the book's instructions. They seemed to skip really explaining a few crucial things, and the clear photos unfortunately didn't really show these things either.I don't know the technical term, but the book didn't really talk about or show well the step of sliding the yarn off the left needle after doing the wrapping around part.I was trying hard to knit without doing this, and was frustrated nothing seemed to actually get knit.I figured it out more or less by trial and error.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beginning Knitters
I knew basic knit and purl stitches before seeing this book but was intimidated by anything more difficult. This book does a fantastic job of organizing knitting stitches and techniques to make it very easy to follow. It spells it out step by step and has helped me move beyond the basics!Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars New Knitter

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY inspiring for all artists!
I'm actually a polymer clay artist, and I've gotten more out of this book than *any* other book I've purchased/read in the never-ending quest to inspire and improve my work. 5-0 out of 5 stars Pure modeling eye candy
Sure it's spendy, but you will spend countless hours drooling over this book by one of the premier modellers in the world right now.As mentioned, every facet of AFV modeling is covered in this publication. From equipment to the process of painting the entire vehicle, groundwork, accessories, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best AFV Work Book To Date!
Up until now Tony Greenland's book "Panzer Modeling" was the one book I pulled out when I start a new AFV. Mig's Book F.A.Q. will now sit on my workbench for a long time. This book is to be used as a reference anytime you are looking for a step-by-step way to paint anything from an Ammo Crate to an entire Tank! It's definitely worth the $ Dollars spent. My book was advertised as a hardcover from an Amazon retailer but came to me as a soft cover. This book will probably never see my bookshelf and is made to sit next to you as you work.
5-0 out of 5 stars The "Masterclass" for finishing techniques
If Tony Greenland's book set the standard for building AFV's then Mig's "FAQ" has just set the standard for finishing AFV's. Like the title suggests, Mig lays out basicly everything you would want or need to know (and then some!) about different finishing techniques in this book. From what tools and materials are used, to tips on how to paint and prepare groundwork, and everything in between. The book is printed on nice, heavy stock glossy paper, it's laid out well, and the pictures are nothing short of gorgeous. I have heard one person who bought the book complain that there wasn't enough text to explain things, but the pictures more than speak for themselves and it is easy to see what Mig is explaining. To conclude, if you build AFV's get this book, I'm sure you will find yourself referring to it very often. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute if you're 25 and into rummage sale vintage
This is definately for beginning or very basic seamstresses. If you like the thrift store-chic look (and I am talking thrift store- old 80's stuff and granny shoes) this is great. If you like a little more sophistication and style, probably not your best option.

1-0 out of 5 stars trailer trash clothing design
I have to say, I was looking forward to a book full of ideas on how to recycle and reuse textiles into fun, fashionable new creations. Well, maybe the basic sewing instructions are helpful, honistly I didn't read them. I went straight for the projects and boy was I horribly disappointed! They all look tacky, sloppily made with unfinished edges and threads hanging out everywhere. As said by another reviewer, I'm not sure these would be the women I would want teaching me how to sew! And as for the project ideas themselves, nothing new or innovative in their ideas. In my opinion, just tacky, shoddy projects that most folks would be embarassed to wear. This book is going back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, no pressure learning
Great book! The authors definately accomplish their goal of helping us "find our own fashion".While they aren't delivering "haute couture" (i.e., boring!) they do have tons of quick, easy projects that give the inner artist immediate gratification. As this book is geared at teens/young adults the casual format makes a very user friendly impact. The projects purposefully target economical supplies that most anybody has around the house (good for moms and dads!)Good introductory tool for the beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Reference!
This book is really thorough and easy to use...It's simple and concise tone makes it more accessible than other knitting books I've purchased. I really reccomend it for beginners like me who tend to panic with every new knitting term we encounter, and every mistake we're not sure is reversible.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for your knitting bag!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantástico
Particularmente este libro me ha encantado, no tiene desperdicio.
5-0 out of 5 stars Kalideiscope quilt
This is a really interesting way of making quilts.Just one fabric and each hexagon is completely different. The hard part comes in arranging the pieces properly. This takes quite a bit of rearranging on a design wall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Newly Obsessed
I bought this book 3 weeks ago and I have been so pleased with it.At first, you might think this is just an extension of Stack 'N Whack, but it isn't. The only similarity is the pinning technique which is essentially the same. The differences are in what Maxine Rosenthal does with the blocks that result and in the types of fabrics she uses. I'm about to complete my first quilt from this book and I already have others planned. I highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Something For Everyone
This book is nothing short of fantastic.I've knit several of the patterns in this book, and have found no mistakes and no disappointments. There are socks for every experience level, from beginner to the most advanced.Variety abounds, and choices are plentiful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Patterns That Delight!!
I am a fairly experienced knitter. This book provides more inspiration than I have seen in a knitting book for a while.Beginners should look at these patterns to get an idea of why knitting is worth pursuing. Yu can always approach local yarn shops for technical help and good company! These are beautiful expressed design ideas. After all, we all want to knit something we cherish and this book offers a realm of great possibility. It's hard to find interesting patterns. Yay! for Knitter's Magazine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for learning and then knitting lots of socks
I bought this book in order to not have to run-to-the-yarn-store every time I knit a Christmas stocking for a member of my family, which is not too often. This book is great for teaching the knitter about the different parts of a sock, such as the heel, the gusset, how to "turn" the sock, etc. I am currently knitting socks with each part of the sock being a different color; an instructional sock(s). Also, as the title says, there are a great deal of varieties of socks to knit, which I haven't started yet. A great book for beginner of socks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring
This book has so many great projects. Who know that Polymer Clay could be so gorgeous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
A quick thumb through told me this book was going to become my new favorite. The projects are quite inspirational and I found myself continuously saying "I have to try that". There could have been a few more step by step pictures, but the written instructions are clear and easy to follow so I can understand why they were left out. I was impressed that many projects were easy enough for beginners, yet there are others that will grab the more advanaced clayers like myself. The polymer clay basic section was short and sweet. That was another big plus in my eyes. I already have a couple dozen books that cover the basics, more basic, and yet more basics. This book is a definite must have for your personal libray!

buy it for your polymer clay friends - while the author doesn't have any projects of her own in the book, she's assembled some killer pieces from some of the best known and loved PC artists into the book of the year. this book was the talke of 2 PC retreats I've attended in the past month - great photos, clear instructions, and interesting new techniques like using colored TLS to created glass and celadon china like finishes ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, but not perfect!
This book contains a great wealth of information, my only complaint is the data is not referenced for sources of information.Trying to verify or follow up on specific information is not easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
After you've advanced past the Time-Life 'how to' style books, get this one.
4-0 out of 5 stars Analise em Lingua Portuguesa (In Portuguese)
... Read more
