Great color charts
I saw a video of Jinny's quilts and was impressed with her color coordination. The book shows many examples of "tumbling blocks" quilts which are really impressive. The book's color charts provide swatches that you can match at the store when buying fabrics. This makes it easy to coordinate colors to your home decor. (The original book I received did not contain the chart; but with a quick call to Amazon, a replacement was shipped to me within 2 days.)

Excellent Resource
Colour theory has always fascinated me and I have read many books about it.This is the first I have come across which deals so comprehensively with the art of using colour in patchwork.Some things I discovered I was doing instinctively, but this book has clarified the process and broadened out my understanding of what works and why.The format is easy to read, the exercises are fun to do whilst stretching the quilter to do things differently to what they have been accustomed.The inclusion of the colour cards in the back of the book is a real bonus and an excellent tool for playing with. I highly recommend this book as a tool for anyone interested in colour; I plan to give it as a gift to others who enjoy the craft.

A Must Have Reference..
I've been quilting for over ten years now, and have run into only two books that were so comprehensive for referencing quilt patterns and name.One was 101 Patchwork Quilt Patterns by Ruby McKim, and The Quilter's Album of Blocks and Borders by Jinny Beyer.
2nd quilt book I ever bought.
The first was Ruby McKim's. A must for all quilters!

Great for every level
I saw this on Simply Quilts and was so intrigued I actually wrote to the author asking if she gave lessons.Then I got the book and found you don't need a teacher.The instructions and illustrations are absolutely so clear that a child could make this quilt. Several reviewers mentioned using these designs on borders -- thanks, I had not thought about that -- good tip.One last thing, I have a sister who refused to learn to quilt.Guess what, she is making a "Simply Seminole" quilt.Gotta love that.

Everything you ever wanted to quilt, and then some
There is only one thing I don't like about this book: It is so much fun to look at and read, I'll NEVER get around to cutting and sewing. But if I ever do make any of the fabulous blocks in this book, I am going to come out with fabulous quilts, hangings, table runners, and anything else I want. There are a few projects in here too, and the instructions and photos and pictures are all clear, concise and fun. I love this book, for the blocks and for the inspiration.

A must have for anyone who loves applique!
This is a wonderful book for any quilter that loves applique or would like to learn the art of hand work! The instructions are very easy to follow and the patterns are fantastic! Anyone who purchases this book will find themselves addicted to these little blocks! Don't let the 4" size scare you off.....the blocks can be resized to suit your comfort zone.

not all you see is paper pieced
This is a wonderful book of beautiful projects.However. not all of the blocks are paper pieced.There are some difficult curved seams and a crazy pieced block that are not for the beginner.Also the template on page 44 is too large for the dimensions noted in the directions for finishing the remainder of the basket block. The triangle must be reduced to fit the remainder of the dimensions.I am in the process of finishing the sampler on page 45.Although not extremely difficult, this is not a paper piecing book for the beginner.The patterns are beautiful and except for the problem that I found trying to complete the basket blocks for the sampler, the directions areclear.I will probably make another one of the projects. Easy Machine Applique
This was one of the first machine applique books I ever bought. We get Eleanor Burns TV show "Quilt in a Day" on Saturday mornings on a local PBS station. After watching some of the episodes relating to the "Applique in a Day" book I decided I just had to try it. If you are a hand appliquer and have never tried machine applique, buy this book. If you have never done any applique and the thought scares you to death, you really need to buy this book. Eleanor makes it so fast and simple that you will be wondering why you hesitated. I love each of her books that I own, especially this one!
Eleanor Burns is my favorite author/teacher for quilting. I love each of her books that I own, but especially this one. Most of her sewing techniques are simple, but they are real time savers that I would never have thought of myself. Being a mother of seven, I'm always interested in saving time. "Applique in a Day" is different from many of her earlier books, so I was excited to buy it. Read more

Are you ready to create? I am!
Wow! I had read an article in American Patchwork Magazine about Jane Sassaman and decided to check out her book.After reading the great reviews on line at Amazon I decided that I needed to buy this book!After anxiously waiting for the book, I jumped into it and read it the first day I received it!What a whirlwind of color, creativity, design, arrangement, and textiles! Inspirations for applique
This book is more of a quilter's history, detailing how Jane Sassaman gradually evolved her style of quilting.Her work is amazing and I love looking at the detailed pictures of her quilts.The book contains "workshops" on a couple of her techniques, but no patterns for specific projects.Also, her quilts are "art quilts" as opposed to quilts for bed use, and so some of her techniques are a bit unconventional (i.e. fabrics used).This was a fun read, but requires you to create your own quilt designs, rather than making a replica of Jane's quilts.

Her designs and attitude will stretch your imagination
I bought this book fully aware that Jane's graphic style is completely different from my tendency to favor realistic applique or gentle color washes. I wanted to expand my vision, and this incredible book is everything I hoped for. Extremely primitive designs :(
As the title states, the designs are way too primitive for me. I know that country designs are in, but this is way beyond that. I think you could adapt some of the blocks and make them less crude but personally, I just kept flipping the pages and shaking my head. I wouldn't waste your money on this one.

Great Primitive Designs
I love the simplicity and primitive themes of the blocks in this book. The variety of methods used- applique, piecing and stichery and the varying size of the blocks allow for max creativity. The color photo illustrations of each block are great and a plus not often shown- especially for the price!!!

When I purchased this book, I thought I would get a book full of different, fascinating CHRISTMAS quilt blocks.The many so called traditional blocks are simply basic quilt blocks done in Christmas colors....gee, I really needed a book to show me how to do that!AND the other blocks are either too simple or to boring to bother with. ... Didn't help me...
I was hoping to get some simple and clear ideas how to know the quality of fabric for quilting. After I read this book, I still don't know exactly how. I guess I just need to get more experiences working with various fabrics.

Must have for serious quilters
This book goes into detail about how fabric is made, and the differences this causes. I consider it a must have book for the library of anyone who is serious about making quality quilts and recognizing quality fabric.

Older children can see how fabric is made

Quiltmaking in America : Beyond the Myths

Applique with a twist of dimension.....
This book would appeal to a new quilter as well as an experienced quilter.Step by step directions are given in order to get the beginner ready to applique.The slightly experienced quilter may have never begun the dimensional aspect of applique, so this book would appeal to that person.Very much similar to any other Baltimore Album book, but nicely done.

Baltimore Bouquets
The blocks are beautiful. I am a new quilter and found this book so easy to understand.It gave clear and easy directions for the techniques used for each flower, leaf & stem.As well as the basic stitches. I havenow completed my fourth block.I love it!

Simplifies dimensional applique with beautiful results!

I have owned this book for a few years now and have thoroughly enjoyed sewing some of the patterns.Of course, it is my intent to make all of them, but...I do want to say that the patterns/instructions are thorough and easy to follow.There is always room for creativity.Needless to say, I was very excited to see that there is now another book.

A great reference for the beginner
When you are stuck and frustrated, relax and reach for this reference...clear writing and very useful illustrations. Nearly as helpful as your grandmother!

A great beginning for applique
I was intimidated by the many wonderful appliqued quilts I'd see and wanted to learn, but didn't know where to begin. The Easy Art of Applique covers the basic directions for getting started and gives simple projectsfor each of the eight methods of applique showcased. The directions anddiagrams are clear and concise and inspired confidence and a desire to jumpright in to the first project. The full size patterns are included fortracing and the finished quilts are all showcased in a full color gallery.I like this book because it gives you the basic information withoutoverwhelming a beginner and yet would help an appliquer with moreexperience to perfect the different techniques used.
