The photographs in this book are wonderful.The instructions are clear, easy to understand and thorough.If you are interested in this craft and are just starting out, this is an excellent buy.

All You Need to Learn to Coil
This is an absolutely wonderful book that does exactly what it says: You will be able to complete a basket the first time you sit down to make one.I learned everything I needed to know about pine needle coiling from this book, and have made over 50 beautiful baskets in the last two years.

A wonderfully photographed book!I keep going back and finding new things I missed the first time I looked through it.It is a great book for the artist, basketweaver or someone who just loves beauty and form.The variety of styles, techniques and materials keeps me looking and enjoying.It is basically a picture/reference book and not a guide or instructional book.I'm very glad I bought this book and will enjoy it for years to come.

My 2 cents...
I saw a demo by the author on HGTV's "Simply Quilts" and downloaded those instructions from that site which were vague, at best.I managed to cobble-together a box using different brands and types of fusibles as those recommended by the author; it wasn't a rousing success.After reading these reviews, I'm still going to buy the book but now know to read it ALL before attempting another box.Perhaps if we write to the AUTHOR and publisher of the book with our concerns the revised edition (if there IS one) will be more clear.I feel it would be extremely helpful to note in the book alternative brands/types of fusibles because I couldn't find what was recommended at my local fabric store.I agree that some amount of experience with fusing fabrics is helpful...I had to draw on my experience to figure out how to get my fabrics to stick together.A lot of sewing experience isn't necessarily needed or even usable...you literally have to "think outside the box" (no pun intended) in order to parse out the instructions.I think now that I have made one, I've seen the mistakes I made...and how the box could be improved over what the author suggested, so I'm still going to buy the book.

not fast or fun or easy!!!
i agree with all the people that wrote the reviews. i found this hard, difficult and very upsetting and i still don't get it. they want you to buy their products for these boxes that aren't cheap and i have different products in the area i live in and i am just trying to do one correctly and get it done with all of the extra material i have and i can't seem to do one correctly. the directions are hard and very hard to understand. not clear at all. i am still trying to figure which part to put the material to. i bought a double sided adhesive and i just can't tell where to cut the material out at. very hard for a beginner. tracy

Fun to give!
I really like making these boxes.The book is very poorly organized.You have to jump between so many pages to find your instructions, but once you know how the book is, it helps.All the instructions are there but confusing to find.It sure could of been better organized.I want instructions for each project with each project.But in spite of this, I like making these boxes to give away...people really enjoy them! ... Very Creative!
This book gave me alot of good ideas.It was a simple read with great explanation!I would definately recommend this book to anyone starting out who needs some creative help.

Not what I expected
I didn't like the pictures of baskets in this book. Most of them were in black and white and really were not all that hot. The content of the book,however, was EXTREMELY helpful.

One homemade gift basket pays for this book!
The ideas, recipes, and photos in this book are inspiring. If you make just one pretty basket to give as a gift, the book pays for itself.I also like the idea of baskets with bathroom goodies in them. If I have company, I set one of these out in the bathroom for our house guests.

NOT about statring a business!! For personal use only.
Maybe I didn't read the editorial comments correctly before I ordered this book, but it is not what I wanted.

Big Disappointment
I read the previous review and decidid to buy the book anyway.The previous reviewer was absolutely correct -- nothing new here.I believe readers would be better served with Lyn Siler's two previous books.

Extremely informative
I bought this book after taking classes in making lightship baskets locally, and must admit that without it I would not have been able to continue making them at home.The history of the baskets is excellent, andcolored photographs of baskets as well as the island of Nantucket arenumerous throughout the book.If you are at all interested in baskets,this book is a must!

If I could give it a higher rating, I would
Completely indispensable text for the weaver, curator, researcher, student, collector or just plain curious.Not a theoretical text; rather, the intent is to enable the reader to identify any basketry work produced by Native North Americans from the Arctic to the Southeast. The book I longed to find on this topic.
I first learned of this book from a basket trader in Tucson who was explaining why I could never find any Pima baskets that matched a photograph in a booklet I had. He suspected the photographer used a brownfilter to enhance the appearance. He pulled out a copy of"IndianBaskets" to show me the difference and told me if I was serious aboutbaskets I needed to get this book. In it, I found along with beautifulphotographs large enough to see in detail of many tribes' baskets: anencyclopedia of information including a list of tribes that still madebaskets with descriptions of the designs each uses, detailed drawings anddescriptions of the many different stitches used in baskets, a chart thatcan be used to find which tribes make baskets with your favorite stitches,and even a list of prices for baskets sold a few years ago. It was the bookI longed to find on this topic. The one obvious omission was a list ofsites where tribes sell baskets today, but fortunately that information isreadily available from other sources. ... Read more

The Longaberger Consultant and Bentley's Guide
I am a Longaberger consultant and have every Bentley's Guide ever published, including an autographed first copy. It is a great help in promoting the value of our products (the fact that they appreciate, not depreciate)!It has been of great help in increasing insurance coverage, not only for myself, but also for customers.I had one customer who lost items in a fire; we used the guide for the replacement value for the insurance company.I now have customers who purchase their own Guide.

The Bentley Collection Guide 8th Edition : The reference too
This was a great book.I wish that I had the book earlier, when I first started collecting Longaberger Baskets. This is a very good reference book I will use for years to come.

Good plans
This book is good for its plans, I got good skills in my scroll saw with them, the designs are very creative, but I sometime think they are repetitive. I recommend this book for somebody want new ideas to their scroll saw
