a great pattern book
I was so excited when I received this book.There are lots of wonderful patterns to do.It is in my opinion the best bead book I have found so far. thank you...

80 PAGES OF COOL DESIGNS!
It is in black and white, a minor problem for just doing the designs off the pages. But I solved that problem by coloring them in. There are 3-5 designs on most of the pages, not all really Native beadwork but well worth the price for ALL the designs for LOOMERS! It is hard anymore to find a book with so many loom ideas and this one is FILLED with them. Ther are a few small mistakes in a couple patterns but nothing worth complaining about. This is not an instruction book! Be warned you need to know how to do beadwork to use this book. Photo copy the pages so you can work on colors of your own choosing other than the ones offered if you don't like the combinations. It is a book you can get use out of for years!

Splint Woven Basketry
I've got a zillion books on basket weaving; this one is going to the top of my list of favorites.

Robin's book was there for me when I started weaving (that was about 10,000 baskets ago) and is still the one I reach for when I need help. Straightforward writing and clear photography combine to make this one of the very best basketry books out there. I've used it as a text in teaching countless classes. It's a book that every basketmaker, beginner or experienced, should have on the shelf.

Reprint Even Better Than The First!

A Great Book - But, Not For Beginner's...
This is a great intermediate to advanced weaver's book.Although in the back she does cover straight and basic plaiting techniques, this book is for basket weaver's who are serious about their art and want to add color and/or artistic designs into their baskets.Not only does it teach you how to incorporate geometric designs in your work, it also teaches you how to draft your own artwork designs.The book covers twill weave, how to wrap your weavers, materials used, adding color and weaver tension.Also included is design weaving: basic blocks and diamond patterns as well as variations on the two; creating folded baskets, undulating twills and double weaving.You'll learn how to incorporate many different lines (such as a swirl pattern) and other fun shapes. not just beautiful glass, beautiful photos...
This is the best book of Chihuly works that I have seen.(I will assume some familiarity with the work of Dale Chihuly).Not only are the photos taken of my favourite Chihuly glassworks (the baskets), but the photos themselves are incredible.The photographer responsible for this book is incredible.The photos give a real impression of what it is like to see Chihuly glass live (and for anyone who hasn't, it is truly stunning to see).The baskets seem to be flexible in these photos, and not frozen, lifeless glass.Read more

Our Lives in Our Hands
This is an excellent book for those interested in Indian cultural ways and how they are changing. This book focuses on the Micmac Indian basketmaker and the tradition and techniques of basketmaking. This book is both an asset and inspiration
To anyone embarking on the learning of the art of basket weaving, this book is a must have.As someone new to basket making, I wanted to make sure that I knew the various terms and techniques and exactly what they meant.This book fulfilled that desire for me.Since purchasing it about two months ago, I have made a number of baskets and cannot count the number of times that I referred to it for direction.Both the text and photographs of the various techniques leave very little to desire.In the last paragraph of the introduction, Ms. Sudduth notes that she hopes that one will discover the excitement and the extraordinary possibilities of baskets.That hope has been fulfilled. I thank her for sharing her incredible knowledge of this art.

If you want to learn to do it right- Get this book!
Ms. Sudduth is a critically acclaimed basket artist and some of her work is displayed in the Smithsonian Institute.Her work is excellent and her teaching skills are perfection!This (hardback) book is 144 pages of serious instruction with many beautiful color photos of baskets from very talented basket artists around the world. Not only will she have you making a wonderful variety of baskets from the start... she includes several tips to help make your work easier (esp. how to correct mistakes and get rid of that dreaded "hairy" look). Billie Ruth Sudduth's book is a masterpiece. The color photographs (and the baskets themselves) are amazing. She showcases some marvelous pieces made with both traditional and unusual materials. She explains every aspectof the craft remarkably well, in easy to understand fashion.Even a beginnercould weave a basket using her instructions. I was pleasantly surprisedthat she included so many of her basket patterns for baskets that are ondisplay at the Smithsonian. Great could have been Excellent
This book was very good I found it to be a step by step way to start a business, however, I'm not so sure it was great in helping those who need to find ways to start up their business w/out the help of others. For example I will be buying my inventory all own my own from my earnings from my primary job. I needed to find INEXPENSIVE vendors, and I just didn't get all that I expected from this book. The book is very easy to follow and gives GREAT advice and EXCELLENT motivation. Shirley is A.O.K in my book

Love it!
I bought at least 10 books when starting my business and this is the only one I actually still refer to. The Marketing chapter gave me so many ideas that never would have occured to me. She really goes into great detail about every last thing that you would need to know - from finding vendors to creating a business plan to setting up your home office. There are no design ideas or color pictures, but the "Tips and Techniques" were invaluable. I was starting from scratch as far as owning my own business is concerned, but this book walked me through every step. I'd recommend it to anyone thinking of going into this business.

A unique and creative tool
I have been creating rustic woodsy baskets as well asteaching classes for fifteen years.Im always looking for new good quality books to learn from as well as share with my students. Natural baskets shows supplies easily collectable from your own backyard or near by woods, no matter where you live. This book has manyclear and precise illustrations covering open work, twining coiling as well as rib style creations. Lots of good information for basket weavers of all skill levels. great resource book
Not only is this a wonderful book for the coffee table it is detailed inmaterials, techniques, and decorations of baskets from around the world. Easilly identifiable photos of baskets as well as great photos of the weavers. Recommend this book to anyone interested in weaving, baskets, and ethnic handicrafts.

Eye candy - a MUST for all basket makers and enjoyers

Where do baskets come from?
Vaughan's book emphasizes collecting natural materials for basketry, with neat color pictures of appropriate vegetation. The last part of the book explains simple basket-making.
