4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive Ideas in inexpensive book. Not bad. Could be better.
`The Perfect Basket' crafting / cookbook by Diane Phillips is an inexpensive little book which offers a wide variety of imaginative giftgiving ideas which require very little crafting ability. You can be all thumbs with the glue gun and still be a winner with many of the projects in this book. It is almost overstating it to say these are `projects', as the hardest thing about many of the suggestions if finding some of the components.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not good!
I wished I had read the previous reviews before I jumped to buy this book.Unless you really know about gift baskets before you read this book, it's not very helpful or clear.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as expected
I am not saying this is a "bad" book.It has good ideas for making a gift basket. However, I was disapointed that there were no pictures. The book is pretty general.I suppose I picked the wrong book for what I was looking for.I am going to go back and look at the other books like this one and purchase another one or two....It is a good book if you are just really looking for some ideas.I wanted something that was more geared toward making gift baskets as a business, this is more on a personal level. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars essential basketry reading
If you are interested in native American basketry, this book will be part of the backbone of your library. Originally published in 1904 as two volumes, when Dover published it, they were bound as one. As a Dover publication, it is, of course, an excellent value--I only wish it were available in hardcover. It has 460 wonderful old photographs and clear line drawings. Mr. Mason was a product of his times and his writing unfortunately reflects an often maddening white male superiority, however his scholarship and clear admiration of the craft, the baskets and their makers mitigates that fault. A must-have book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Add crafty touches to store-bought gifts!
When I first saw this book, I was skeptical. I've put together a few gift baskets, I thought to myself. But when I looked through the photos and read through the Basket Basics, I was hooked. The basket ideas are clever and charming. Most of her 'baskets' are not baskets at all: boxes, canisters, laundry baskets, buckets, a bread box and more! In fact, the projects are not traditional directions. This book is a collection of ideas and tips organized by occasion and recipient, punctuated with great photos. Each photo has a paragraph for a caption, explaining the gift basket shown and extra tips.

3-0 out of 5 stars Low Quality typesetting
I just received this book, and the typesetting and illustrationquality leave a lot to be desired. It appears that the publication master was typeset on a low quality laser printer. Twenty years ago I would have expected as much from a limited audience publication like this, but in this day and age there's really no excuse not to take the time to publish a book with high quality printing. (ever heard of Kinko's?)5-0 out of 5 stars very very ingenious,

5-0 out of 5 stars With just this book you can make classical looking baskets.
I have never has so much useful instruction packed in a book with less than 50pages. Photography by Pat O'Hara and clear illustrations with arrows point out every movement. It may take a little time to make them smoothly and symmetric however even the first efforts look crafty and you just can not bring yourself to give them away as presents. Even if you do not have time to have fun with pine this is a must for your library and a good guide if you intend to buy others work.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Teneriffe Primer
Teneriffe starts and basic coiled starts are covered in this book, but it emphasizes use of the teneriffe ring, and other "open work". Gives basic and advanced techniques, including attaching shapes together, extensions (away from the body of the basket), butterfly pattern, lids, andspecific projects using these techniques. This book is meant for beginners, but you will probably have more success with these techniques if you havesome sewing experience. Another book currently popular as a beginning pointfor pine needle coiling.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a Great book for beginner and advanced crafters
This book is excellant from front to back has a great collection ofbaskets from various artist. Would highly recommend it to anyone interestedin pine needle basketery. 4-0 out of 5 stars A history not a "how to" book
If you are looking for a great history book on Hopi baskets, this is the book. If you are looking for a "how to" book, this is not what you are looking for. It does state the technique used for various types of baskets, however doesn't tell you "how to" do those techniques.Beautiful photos, wonderful text, but not a "how to" book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful in general, but...
Very helpful in business planning and marketing for a new gift basket business, but was very disappointed with the suppliers list.
