5-0 out of 5 stars This book is beautiful
This book has a great variety of beadwork techniques that resembles a museum in a book. I can read it over and over and always feel inspired. I love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars 500 Beaded Objects
Great book, wonderful way to spark creative juices.Amazing pieces, such fun to look through.Reccommend this for anyone who is even thinking about beading beyond stringing.Purchased this as a gift for many of my beading buddies, and my daughter and daughter-in-law.

3-0 out of 5 stars Why Do I Do This?
I do not know why I buy these books when the magazines publish all these designs anyway. Nice pics but why spend for the whole book when I probably have the stuff someplace anyway?
5-0 out of 5 stars Useful technical book
Lots of design ideas, ground work for your own inspiration. Great pictures and use of various materials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Designs, AndPacked with Great Inspiration!
I find that buying a new jewelry book is like taking a chance on a blind date: sometimes you want to call it a night at 6:00, and other times you want to linger and just totally enjoy the experience you are having...and then relive the whole thing as soon as possible!

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs more instructional photos
This book has some really nice and inspiring projects to do, but for anyone who has never worked with felting, but wants to, it is very hard to visualize the process. Step by step photos would be a big help. Otherwise, it's just frustrating.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just need a little more
photos and descriptions of the sample art are wonderful - very inspiring. and very frustrating - diagrams or pictures of the felting process would be helpful. I just can't envision what is being described but I guess I just need to leap on in...

5-0 out of 5 stars Yum, Yum!!
I got my book last night and had to force myself not to stay up all night reading!! Today, I had the fun of carefully reading thru the whole book. Tonight, I'll get a felting needle! I can't wait to start my projects. The pictures are wonderful, artistic and informative. The introduction is not a history of felting per se but just enough to let you know you are trying an art form that is both ancient and modern. Her color sense for the projects is great and the items look so tactile and sensuous. Having done some felting in the past, it was delightful to see Carol combine lampwork beads and seed beads into the projects to give the items a sense of modern elegance. Not a huge reference section but enough to satisfy the beginner. A book I know I will refer to again and again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
Very easy to follow the instructions. This is the type of book I had been looking for. It's absolutely wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Complex, Beautiful Knots Demystified
This book is a beginner's dream introduction to knotting. Complete with clear, concise step-by-step directions and large color photos of each step, this text is sure to be an enjoyable resource to anyone looking to learn how to achieve beautiful knot work designs on the first try. I personally am applying many of the designs to some hemp work, so the contents are easily modifiable to your own creative ideas. There are "patterns" you can follow but these are secondary and the book focuses on showing you the main techniques so you can apply them however you like in your own works.

I had to return this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice reference, with some lapses. Check new edition!
`The Beader's Companion', written for `Beadwork Magazine' by Judith Durant and Jean Campbell is, at first blush, a terrific little reference work for beading basics. It covers, in some depth, all the essentials of beads, threads, tools, looms, `hardware', needles, and stitches. Being primarily a loom beader from way back, I was particularly impressed by the wide variety of `freehand' techniques, especially those which can be used to incorporate beads into various stitching and knotting techniques such as macramé, knitting, and crocheting.
5-0 out of 5 stars The New! Beader's Companion
This is great for examples and demonstrations.Being spiral bound is also a good thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classical Patterns
This book is invaluable. I have seen many wonderful patterns for beading drived from it and the beaders have given the book credit. Many beautiful patterns come from this book and the artists use it as a base for their original designs. I hope it never goes out of print. I always keep two copies, just in case.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beadwork as Meditation, Many Thanks, Mr. Goodhue!
I can ditto everything Diane Fitzgerald says -- and I have her books as well. After I became familiar with the weaves in the book, I translated them to fashion colors and created many lovely items which I sold.By adding fringe or texture, by using iridescent or matte finish beads, by "driving on the shoulder" so to speak (i.e., doing an unstructured Oglala Butterfly around a featured handmade large bead), I could make all sorts of new looks. The diagrams are clear. I photocopied several to color with my own color scheme ideas before undertaking a project.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Be Beat
I bought this book a number of years ago and it has always been my favorite. After seeing some little beaded Indian men and women on necklaces in a craft store in Cherokee, NC, I wanted to learn to make some.Goodhue's book is the only book I have come across which has instructions for the little dolls (although I don't think he has a picture of them). The only thing that would make the book better is some larger, color pictures of finished products, but at least you can't beat the hand-drawn diagrams for bead placement and thread direction.I had never made a decent looking daisy-chain until I came across it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for both mediums
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The pictures and ideas for projects were new and very inspiring...not easy when there are so many books out on the subjects. A good review on the different types of metal clay and how each can be used. This book is a valuable addition a metal clay and beaders library and well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for the Beaded Jewelry Enthusiast
In addition to providing a very good introduction to metal clay, Irina gives a fresh perspective to the medium in the projects section. Projects offer inspiration for jewelry designers along with practical applications. This is a very nice resource and a welcome addition to my library!

I purchased this book to get some ideas for embellishing my crazy quilts and have not been dissapointed. 3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures but sadly lacking in visual directions
I am a seasoned beader and wire worker but have only in the last few months branched off into the wonderful and adictive world of seed beads, but this book just does not have the proper amount of visual instructions even for my newness to the craft. I find my self thumbing through the pages wistfully wanting to do some of the very interesting projects with in, but sadly I have not as yet been able to put one of the projects into use. I esspecialy would like to make the tiny versions of daffodils...someday after a few more classes I hope. If you are a non visual learner and can pick it up from written instruction this book would be great for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Some projects have poor directions
This is a very attractive book with lots of information about forming flowers, leaves and stems. However, I have had several problems with inaccuracy with directions.Point:I have made 7 roses per directions in the book.NONE have come out the way they look in the book.I followed the given directions and the rose was too tight...as were all the others I made.I tried not gathering to tight - same result. I tried skipping some of the contact beads and that got tricky and still didn't get the look in the book. Now,I am simply experimenting with my own ideas and see how that works. But, what a lot of wasted time, thread and beads trying to get it right!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beaded Garden

1-0 out of 5 stars All my Beads just hit the wall
OMG!This could not be harder to follow if it were written in a different language!Even the first basic leaf is not logical with three different wires being called for but only one in the directions..... The pictures are nice, some beautiful flowers, great ideas on what to do with the things once you get them done.... but I'm going back to the internet to get the directions... those are written step by step and easy to understand...I'll get those basics and maybe come back to this for ideas how to put together flowersfrom those petals....

4-0 out of 5 stars A Clear Guide to an Old Craft
Those who have ever admired the tradional Victorian beaded flowers under glass domes - or who have seen on the net how new techniques have added to this fascinating craft - will welcome the chance to acquire a clearly written, well illustrated beginers instruction manual. Many species of flowers are included from exotic orchids to native favourites; hints on arrangement and display help newcomers make the most of their work.I really got enthused by the photos and followed up with a search on the net to locate clubs and suppliers.I recommend this book to anyone looking to make antiques of the future, or to begin a profitable new hobby.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite a Beaders "Bible" but close!!
While these weren't the first beaded flower patterns in my collection, it was the first book...and I've never regretted my decision to purchase it!It is a wonderful resource, with clear patterns and assembly instructions. The fact that she gives general recommendations for colors then leaves the actual color selection up to the crafter/artist is commendable.(I very rarely use recommended colors in patterns, preferring to go my own way and trust my own color choices.I am most appreciative of the fact that Ms Kelly doesn't try to "hold my hand" when it comes to my creative choices.) 4-0 out of 5 stars Outdated, maybe?
I got this book from the library and didn't keep it for long. As a wire beginner I found the designs easy to do since there are sufficient instructions in the beginning. The jewelry pieces are very basic, and I noticed that some of them can easily snag on hair or clothing. This will pull the designs apart. I tried making a few links of some of them and found this to be true. I also found some of the designs to be way "un"-designs, I don't find they have artistic integrity. There are a few nice ideas, but I would not buy this book. Maybe it is outdated?

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Insperations
Im a beginner wire, jewerly person and this book was recommened on one of the jewerly lists im on.Im not disappointed I got it by far but it does require lots of practice, love of the craft and talent..Im hoping to aquire more of two of the above for I have the love as the author of this book as all Three.. worth having.Mrs.C.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I found the wire design projects in this book to be redundant when comparedwith the projects available online and in some other books. They are not just similar - they are exactly the same. For one project that I like enough to attempt, the instructions are unclear and seem to be incomplete. After reading through them several times, the only thing that was clear was that I'd either have to figure it out for myself or forget about it. I'm at the lower intermediate level, so this book is definitely not suitable for beginners. There isn't much to get excited about and I'm rather disappointed in this book. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Beading Too Simple!
The projects in this book are very basic and unimaginative! My five-year-old child can make them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick & Easy -- and lovely!
The title says it.The projects are fairly simple and the authors have some pretty clever ideas.Tools, thread, wire, findings needed are a standard beginning for a how-to book like this.Usually relegated to an appendix are jewelry standards, such as beads per inch, but here they precede bead stringing, knotting and weaving. How to make and use jump rings rates a special mention. Most jewelry-making books neglect the handy jump ring.Pressed for time to make a quick jewelry gift?Yes, check out this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great jewelry ideas
I have bought many beading books and have been disappointed in many, but this book in no way disappoints. It offers the same information for beginners on findings and needed supplies that the other books do but has an easier to follow format. All (yes, all ..no duds in this book)of the projects are actually jewelry pieces that I would like to make and own or that can be easly altered to better suit the jewelry maker. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lily Takes the Mystery Out of Bead Knitting
Who else but Lily could do it? I have knitted beaded purses on 0000 needles, but never considered knitting a beaded garment until reading this book. Lily explaind every way that it can be done in clear and precise language, with excellent pictures and charts. The patterns are glorious! Patterns for sweaters and shawls and really beautiful items that are truly one of a kind. And not knit on itty bitty needles either. You don't don't need a magnifying glass to knit these beauties! I am working on the Vargas Girl Sweater in pale blue Rowan cashmere with gold and copper beads, a large investment, but the results are gorgeous!! This book is a must have for the truly glamorous knitter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Designs and Outstanding Instructions
Inspiring and instructive. As always, Lily's instructions are clear and easy to follow, even for techniques that are new and a little different. The projects are stunning and quite "finish-able." And Lily's "signature" sense of humor keeps you company while you create and learn. A winner. ... Read more
