5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasury of Beaded Jewelry: Bead Stringing Patterns for All Ages
An excellent tool for creative beading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners to intermediates
I really liked this book.I dot this book near the beginning of my beading career and find that I still refer to it regularly to refresh my memory on beading methodology. It is an easy to follow guide that has easier projectss for beginners, as well as more time-consuming and difficult projects for the more advanced beader.I love these designs, and one design can be used over and over in different bead colors. As you become more comforatble with them, you can make your own variations and build upon what they have shown you.I definetly recommend this book to everyone interested in jewelry beading. ... short on technique, lots of talk. Pieces could have been shown on/being used rather than as static objects.

If you, like me, find that when you are creating pieces of jewelry you are released from everyday cares and nourished by what you are doing, then you will understand instantly what makes this book special.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Inspirations
Just received this book yesterday and can barely put it down. The photos are crisp, illustrating the details of each piece. It's refreshing to discover how an artist is inspired and not just what stitch or thread to use. Great gift for a beader! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for learning and expanding your knowledge!
I've looked at several books on bead crochet and even bought some of them but this is by far the best book I have on bead crochet.I've made several of the patterns now and each one has worked out perfectly.Ms. Lehman really knows her subject and how to teach it.Excellent book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good tips
This is a great book with really nice patterns. The book has some good tips and tells things to watch for if you are a beginner. It also tells the best way to fix your mistakes.I am a beginner and I got alot of help from this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!Instructions for EVERYTHING pictured in a book!
My mother and I are both hooked (no pun intended, crocheters!) on bead crochet, we trade tips back and forth as we figure out how to create different effects. This book, however, gave us more to work with than any of the half-dozen (or more!) others we've accumulated. So many bead artists create spectacular pieces that are displayed in project books alongside instructions for much simpler versions. The simpler versions are inevitably disappointing when you return to the book and see the grander result, and then we spend frustrating hours (days!) trying to figure a pattern out from just a picture.Lehman's book is entirely different - the projects are increasingly difficult, but in combination present a generous range of ideas and allow you to really see how much you can expand on a simple pattern. She doesn't eliminate the more complex patterns, instead, suggests ways to work up to them by doing smaller-scale, single-pattern projects based on the elements of the more complex and lengthy works. The book really appeals to a broad range of skill levels without limiting those of us who are already comfortable with the basics. One of the other reviews commented that the format used to explain the patterns was not visual enough, I recommend grabbing some colored pencils and a blank chart and drawing it out for yourself if you're having trouble.I've made my own template with an Excel spreadsheet, Judith Bertoglio-Griffin also has some great templates in her books that are numbered so you don't get mixed up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best beading book I've found!
I'm absolutely crazy about this book! The instructions are the easiest to understand that I've ever seen. For instance, I have a couple of other beading books that neglect to inform one how to start or finish off threads, and how to hide the ends in the beadwork. The technique this author uses is sturdy and invisible. The charts are fabulous; very imaginative and the colors are beautiful.I couldn't be happier with this book.I especially like the fact that each chart states how many beads will end up being in the finished product, how many rows and columns there are in each piece, and clear instructions on which stitch to use.The spiral-bound spine is a lifesaver, as the book will lie flat on your work surface, unlike books with regular spines that need a weight to hold open.I first encountered this book at my local library, and wish I would have found it first rather than the other books I have been using.I wouldn't have made as many time-consuming mistakes as I have.We beaders know that it's the time put into the project, rather than the materials, that ends up costing you money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Patternsare childish, hard to make out.
Most patterns in this book are childish, hard to make out and not worth the time. This one went back to Amazon. I would hardly call it a "bible"

3-0 out of 5 stars i took a gamble
by buying this book sight unseen.sometimes the gamble pays off, and i find a new author, but this time i lost and have returned the book to amazon.

I can understand why there are so many used books! The Binding Is Poor and will soon fall apart, Just turning the first few pages showed me that.. Very Nice Color BUT very brief instructions On lots of different Beading techiniques. The first part on Tools and Materials is well done. This book is an introduction ONLY.The wire work part does get you started but leaves you wanting more. It gives a few pages to each techinque leaving you wondering what happened to the rest? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Oo! Ah! Neat! Pretty!
This book is a keeper. The projects are delightful and instructions are clear. With Carole's pointers in mind, there are so many places to look other than bead shops for findings and inspiration. In addition, the book describes new ways of using old stitches that leave the reader with ideas of her own to pursue. Included are pictures of what other bead artists have done using the instructions from this book as a springboard for their ideas. "Beaded Jewelry with Found Objects" is a treasure for anyone who loves beading, and just looking through it is fun. Warning: looking through this book will leave you twitching to start a new beady project ... okay, okay, it'll leave you twitching to start A LOT of new beady projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise!
I passed by this book a few times but I needed a bead book fix so I ordered and I'm happy I did. The designs are imaginative and there is a wealth of techniques to try. They are explained well with excellent diagrams. Lots of eye candy to boot.

3-0 out of 5 stars Depends on what your looking for.
I just got this book the other night, so I haven't had the chance to thoroughly read it yet. So far, I think the text part is better than the photography. I find it easy to read and it seems to touch on several topics. Unfortunately, not being well versed in Native American/Indian history, I don't know how accurate that information is, so I'm no help in analyzing that part of the book. He seems to me to do a good job describing techinques, and the illustrations are helpful to me. If you're looking for good photos though, I would not recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Beginners
Monte Smith has produced an excellent book for anyone wishing to beginauthentic beadwork. He provides complete information regarding thematerials and supplies needed. There is a lot of information about thetechnical aspects of this craft. The book has excellent illustrationson how to make the various stitches with beads on leather, which interestedme the most.He has also included numerous photos of original artifactsthat a person can use for design ideas. There is also a coded (by letters)reference under the photos which indicates the museums that have thoseitems on display. The only improvement this basic book could havewould be color photos which would be of help in selecting beads for aproject. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars easy to follow directions
This is a great book. We've used it at our summer park program with kids ages 5-15 and they love it. The directions are very easy to follow compared to other beaded animal books and online sources. There's also a really good variety of projects. It will keep the kids busy for hours!

5-0 out of 5 stars As Good As the Original, Maybe Better!
Making these beaded animals is just as much fun as were the ones in the original "Gecko". Like in the original, you get step by step instructions with photos and diagrams that are so very easy to follow. I just loved both Gecko books and, like me, in no time at all you'll be making lots of little beaded animals. Animals for you and animals for others, because don't you know, they make swell gifts, especially if you turn them into earrings or pins.5-0 out of 5 stars great book has about 20 or more diff. patterns!
I really liked this book because it's great for starters or higher. I also liked this book because it has 20 or more patterns in it and a varity of patterns. I would recommened this book book to everyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SURPRISED WITH NUMBER OF PAGES
My brother-in-law has the exact same title book, his book has over 600 pages! I ordered the book thinking that I would get a similar copy at a great price. I did not realize that I was purchasing an condensed version. The information in the book, although somewhat sparse is good. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment
A few years back I signed up for a class in silversmithing which soon became addictive. In addition to that interest, I have always been interested in primitive art such as that of the American Indians, the cave drawings, Australian Aboriginal art or spiritual drawings. These forms of spirituality and art or of art are very powerful. I have chosen to concentrate my silversmithing designs toward the designs I see from these primitive peoples. The book, North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment has proven to be very helpful toward that aim. In addition to that, it's just plain good reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars One quibble/caution
This gorgeous book is indeed indispensable, especially if "read" visually. Unfortunately, quite a few of the tribal attributions for historic objects (information given to the author by museums) are wrong. Given the scope of this project, Dubin had little choice but to take often out-dated info at face value rather than do her own research. However, readers should keep this caveat in mind when using this work as a reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I received these this past December and really love the whole thing. The book is terrific - it tells the history and uses of the beads, crossing a variety of religions which is neat.It talks about the symbolism oft he beads, the thread, the meditation and so on. Beautiful photos are throughout the book as well. The beads smell amazing. They seem sturdy enough - strung on a double thread. This would also make a great gift.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book... but...
I loved the book!! It is a compact tome of beautiful passages and stirring words. The beads, although they do smell wonderful, are cheaply strung and rather weak.Be ready to restring them or use them simply as an ornament.

I bought this book in its french edition on a trip to Paris last year. I don't speak a word of french, however, I could understand it completely (imagine it in english)! Really clear and easy to follow graphics, beautiful photos, amazing projects (most of them are complete jewelry sets) for earrings, rings, necklaces, brooches and an ornamental comb.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL FULL COLOR BOOK!
The instructions look very easy to follow. I just got this book along with another of her books. I always thought the beading looked hard but I was wrong, at least with these books! Nice Easy To Follow Pictures AND Easy To Understand Step by Step Written Instructions. Great color combinations using seedbeads, Bugle beads and odd beads you have been keeping till you figured out what to do with them. ..She has used a picture of a finger with a string tied on it to bring attention to importaint details to pay attention to as you bead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Path to Finding Technical Perfection...
and that ain't an easy pathway to find, believe me.I love Barth's insistance on using only the most traditional methods, when there are multiple techniques that could be covered. His instructions are so clearly illustrated and explained that I've actually gotten a grip on a method that I have failed to understand for years and am presently using to cover a walking stick with - traditional style gourd stitch. Most books simply teach the two step method and don't even mention the older, three step method and when they do, their instructions tend to be so confusing that I end up with a stick wrapped in a tangled net of tiny beads and thread. But thanks to Barth, I finally get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars mainly positive review
I haven't yet read the book thoroughly because I'm beading a peyote project now but I can say I like the explanation on the history of brick stitch. I think the same shapes done by different people, each work varying in colors andmuch the same shape is somewhat pointless, though I enjoyed the variety of colors and the works are lovely. I think you could have included a wider range of instructions on how to build a sculptoral shape step by step. The works included in the gallery are beautiful and inspiring. Have I writtenbetween 75- 300 words ? I'll let you have the fun of counting (if you ever intend to do so - ha ha ha !!! )Tirza, Israel.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent instructions and projects
I found Beading with Brick Stitch an excellent book for learning how to do brick stitch. On working several of the projects, I found the instructions quite clear, and these were the first time I had done brick stitch. Several pluses put this book on a level above many beading books: the history of brick stitch with pictures of traditional uses; the inclusion of single-stack, double-stack and triple-stack brick stitch graph paper to copy; many different photos of each project as made by the author's friends to demonstrate variations; and a well-done gallery for inspiration. I have found that this book has been able to answer all my brick stitch questions so far, and I have found it one of the best books in the beadworks "Beading with" series.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good book with a few drawbacks
first, i will say that i can misinterpret directions like nobody you've ever known.if this were a talent, i'd be a genius.it makes following even the best written craft instructions a wee bit difficult.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE
I too wish I had read past the first reviewer. Must have been a born optimist!! The best thing about this book, THE PRICE. What a total waste of my time. I learned stringing beads as a toddler! I was looking for a GLASS BEAD BOOK and how to MAKE THEM. Why not put this book with the stringers! Shame on you Amazon for leading us down the wrong path. No wonder this book did not have pictures of the inside. shame shame shame!
2-0 out of 5 stars Very Misleading Title
I should have read the other reviews first. If you are looking for a book to outline and explain the technique of glass bead making, THIS IS NOT THE BOOK!!!!Only buy this if you want some pictures of beads or are interested in making jewerely.

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title!
While I do believe that this book has merit, it is as a JEWELRY MAKING BOOK, not as a bead making book. I feel that the Title of the book is misleading.....to me, a "Bead Artist" is a person who MAKES beads, not a person who makes jewelry with beads. That is a "JEWELRY ARTIST". A small point, but significant, since this book is listed under "Lampwork". Nice photographs, and as I said, the book has merit if you are looking for some VERY SIMPLE stringing ideas. ... Read more
