A Nice Knitting Book
Big Fish, Little Fish starts with basic How-to-Knit instructions, moves on to some well-designed basic sweaters, adds some specialty designs with things like peplums and assymetrical necklines, and finishes up with hats, socks, and mittens. The yarns suggested are specialty yarns, but the gauges are fairly standard so you can easily substitute (assuming you understand how to use gauge information). All the patterns are designed with simple basic shapes, so there is limited shaping, but there are clever little details that make the designs a little more stylish. Easy, quick and stylish
Jil Eaton has a way of making knitting seem even more fun. She is, without a doubt, a sensible knitter for people running on a time deficit. How often do you see a lovely aran knit sweater and see hour after hour ticking away when you know you need to grocery shop, bathe the kids, pay bills? I own all of Jil Eaton's books. I consider this one a particularly good collection for those looking for basic children's and adult pattterns, such as socks, mitterns, (fabulous) hats, neck warmers, vests (v-neck or zippered), or plain crew neck sweaters. Plus, most (maybe all) of the patterns can be done in worsted weight yarn. Unlike Minnies, which uses many expensive designer yarn (to be dry-clean no less) for baby outfits, Big Fish Little Fish patterns can be done with any worsted yarn. So while I enjoyed making outfits from Jil Eaton's previous Minnowknits books, I like Big Fish Little Fish for its "wholesomeness". After you buy this book, you no longer need to buy individual patterns for socks, mitterns, basic sweaters and vests. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

Nothing new here
The book is cleverly laid out, with good illustraions and cute cartoons, but the craft ideas are really lame. If you're looking for interesting or unusual ideas, try Hocus Pocus: Halloween Crafts for a Spooktacular Holiday by Martingale and Company. Everything from invitations to decorations and food.

Wonderful photos....but the crafts...???

Some of the projects in this book are great ideas, and the patterns look easy.
Pratical crafts and sewing
This book is wonderful! I have read and tried countless baby craft books and this is by far one of the best!Instructions are easy to follow and it a has useful and beautiful things for baby! Like the burp cloth made out of damask napkins or cashmere sweater made over for baby! I highly recommend this book!

Ultimate Block Construction Book
Genuine hardwood unit blocks are THE best toy for children.I have a fairly large set of them and my children, who range in age from 2-8, all sit down together (and separately) and play with them.The blocks become horse stables, airports, buildings, hotels, doll houses, highways, you name it!!And when other children come to our home, the blocks are invariably the first thing pulled out and played with.

This is the best book on the topic of block building that I have ever seen. Black and white photographs of the beginnings and completions ofinteresting structures are shown, as well as carefully drawnplans for building each structure.While recommended for older children on this site, I highly recommend that it be included near every block corner in kindergarten classes. The children are able to visualize, then extend the ideas contained in the book, and have become much better block builders as a result.One very positive thing is that the book tends to attract girls to the block building area, where they carefully study the plans and cooperate to try to reproduce the structure.Since block building is known to nurture spatial sense, an important math skill, anything that encourages girls to participate in block building is highly recommended.(By the way, boys love it too!) ... Why Classics are Classics
As one reads Peter Pan, one doesn't have to do much thinking to figure out why its story has achieved such worldwide acclaim.I had ridiculously high expectations of Mr. Barrie's imagination before purchasing this title, and he has fulfilled them completely.
Darker than you'd think...
Even though I knew that Disney movie and the various other adaptions out there were more sugar-coated than the original, this turned out to be a rather darker and more sinister book than I expected. Funny and charming and all that, too...but a little creepy in the way seemingly innocuous dreams sometimes are, when everything goes a little sideways and suddenly you aren't so sure everything is fine any more. Peter himself seems far less benevolent a soul than he is usually made out to be. In even the less flattering renditions of the story, he is usually only portrayed as childish, proud and a little selfish, but a stand-up sort of fellow nonetheless. The way I'm reading the book, he's practically a hedonist. The only thing that saves him is the fact that he has brief moments of chivalry and a memory like a goldfish. He and Dorian Gray should get together. Or maybe, on second thought, they shouldn't. Since that could lead to disturbing slashfic.
Beautiful classic version of this story
This version (Everymans Library Childrens Classics) of J.M. Barries Peter pan is a beautiful hard cover printing of the book.
