It's a keeper!
A very nice selection of pullovers, cardigan, vests.It's nice to see the sizing go from small to XL (some 50-52" +).The yarns used are easily obtained but the author gives enough info for you to sub something else.Easy to follow instructions and diagrams with photos that clearly show the garment rather than how artfully it can be draped over a chair as some books do.

confidence builder
i have been a crocheter for years but never made a garment.never had the confidence to leave the afghans and scarves.this book inspired me to try not only a garment but to use a high quality yarn. i made the cardigan on page 129 changed the yarn but kept the same weight and chose different buttons.instructions were easy to follow and sizing was great.i was worried when i had it pieced together and tried it on... it fit perfectly.wore it to church and got loads of compliments nobody believed i made it. can't wait to make more.thank you melissa.

Another of my favorites!
This book is another of my favorite books for baby and toddler clothing.I have made the stuffed zebra (in sky blue and white stripes for something a little out of the ordinary) and the girl's floral sweater (in tan with peach flowers).
Buttons Beware
I'm a beginning crocheter when it comes to clothes and I don't have kids.I bought this book to create some things for my niece (baby due in January).However, every pattern has buttons, something I'm told can be dangerous for infants and toddlers.I love the patterns and think the outfits are gorgeous but be aware that some new mothers may be leary of letting their babies wear outfits with buttons on them.

Perfect!

This is an excellent book.It is a very small book but what is inside is great!The pictures are beautiful.The projects range from simple to more complex.Instructions easy to understand.Great job.I just received book and have already completed one of the bracelets!!

Good and Bad
I have made only one bag so far - the pink shell bag.It was simple and looks great.I put some embellishments of my own on it.I can see making several of these bags for gifts, in different colors, different handles and trims.So for this pattern alone, it was worth the price.

Trisha Malcolm is the editor for this book and series but I think something happened to this one as usually the quality is pretty good on this series. First of all, many of the yarns used are very expensive like Trendsetter yarns. Second: since when are baskets considered bags?There's nothing here I want to make but check out the "Hooked bags" by Margaret Hubert which I gave 5 stars.So of the 22 bags only 20 are original here. You'll find a felted laptop bag and a yoga bag here and a freeform bag which calls for a large variety of hard to find materials. Left handers rejoyce
I'm giving this one five stars for being the only knitting or crochet book I've found so far that provides instructions for both left and right handers on the same page instead of the usual lame "hold the book up to the mirror like the crafting pariah you are lefty" advice.
I LOVED IT!!!
First I looked at all the reviews on this book. Then I thought I'd better get my own opinion, 'Cause I didn't want to spend my money on something I didn't like. So I requested this book from the library and I liked it so much that I decided to buy it so I could have it all the time.

Outstanding!!!
I absolutely love this book.The history and illustrations of Irish Crochet are spectacular.The guide to the various stitches are an inspiration to say the least.I really appreciated the glossary of terms and a guide the the chart symbols.

Terrific book with some funky designs!

More towards knitting
I bought this book but I did not really read carefully, this book has knitting, and more knit than crochet and the crocheted scarve are nothing worth looking at, yarn they use not as nice as the knit.More to beginner crocheters.. They could of been better

I am novice in Tunisian crochet and the book was really helpful in teaching me how to do it. There are a lot of stitches presented, with some unusaul effects - some are easy, some are not. Patterns have errors
I bought this book for the cute patterns and sat down yesterday to make the "mesh hat" in this book. There are many errors and typos in this pattern.I am a very experienced crocheter and was able to compensate for the typos and steps that are entirely omitted in the instructions. I am not going to waste my time on any of the other patterns in this book and don't recommend that others buy the book to begin with.

Perfect Crocheted Hats

All the hats provided in this book are cute and hip -- every single one of them. The only problem with this book is locating the yarn required for the hats. (Since I'm a beginner, I haven't learned how to substitute the required yarn with another.) My local crafts and arts stores don't carry the yarn though I eventually did find it online. A good book!
Quick Crochet Huge Hooks is a great book for both beginners and experienced crocheters looking for some new projects. It focuses on projects made with hooks 10.00 mm (US size N-13) through 20.00 mm (US size S), with most of the projects using 12.00 mm (US size O/P-15) and 15.00 mm (US size Q).
A fun book for all crocheters
Having recently taught myself how to crochet (and somehow mastering it very quickly) I was looking for something fresh to pique my interest again.This book did the trick!The day I got it in the mail I sat down, cut up some fabric, and by the next afternoon I had finished my first rug!!!I think it's just the thing to get your creative juices flowing if you seem to be in a crochet funk, and most of the projects are easy enough for a beginner who just wants to make something that doesn't take all week!

Waste of $
This book was a waste of $ to me.The only book I have ever returned to Amazon. Not one project looked even remotely interesting to me with my beginner skills and I surely saw nothing for when my skills improve. Save yuour $. There are way to many good books out there! ... Read more

Some fresh new patterns to choose from
I was looking for more "granny square" patterns and came across this book and ordered it.
I am so disappointed....
I had purchased this book based on the suggestion of someone in one of my granny square swaps - I am returning it today.The color photos of the squares are 16 to a page - very hard to see - and the photos next to the patterns themselves are black and white.I have been crocheting for years and tried several patterns from this book - none of them came out well enough to use in my swap.

These reprints are a gift!
I love to create clothing from "true" vintage knitting and crocheting patterns, which are very difficult to find in the US; and when I do nail down a source, the pattern is moldy, portions of a magazine for a particularly nice pattern have been carefully removed (as though I wouldn't notice the pagination moving from page 42 to page 59), and then the source becomes incognito. This book is excellent for people who know how to knit and crochet and don't want to be constantly buying patterns. There are tons of patters organized by yarn weight and use. The book gives info on how to knit and crochet however, it is weak in terms of pictures which most beginners need.

Amazing Source for all levels of Kitters & Crocheters!
This is one of the best books I've read. It's cover-to-cover knit and crochet pattern stitches with clear instructions. There are easy and advanced patterns listed, and some unique methods can be learned. There are also many pages of clear instructions on techniques for both knitting and crocheting. I highly recommend this book.

Great Gift Ideas!
I loved the book, both the great colorful photos, and the diversity of the projects, but also the idea that the projects are good for giving - both to family and friends, but also to charity organizations.The fact that there is a list of places in the back of the book to donate finished projets to, makes it really easy to have fun making things, and feel good about donating them.

Amateur Effort
There are several very good crochet stitch guides on the market.This is not one of them.I should have realized when I read the introduction and saw some blatant errors.It states that "These days machines crochet items as small as doilies and as large as sweaters and afghans."Wong.If you look up "crochet machine" on Google you will find a huge industrial machine that makes drapery trim.It does not, nor does any other machine, crochet doilies, sweaters or afghans.
It's a stitch guide
Not a primer, not even really a project book. I love this book, I've checked it out repeatedly from the library, and it's the book I refer to when I'm designing things. I can't thank the person enough who was kind enough to put it on my bookshelf. My best friend wants a new scarf, I get this book, I'm working on an afgan for my husband, I reach for this book. I want to make a sampler shawl, this book again. I don't particularly want finished patterns, I like making things the way I want them, this book gives me the tools and stitches to do it with. Plus I prefer international crochet symbols, so that makes it even better for me.

Well...
I was looking for books with patterns on Amazon.This book popped up.I liked the cover and the title.I did read some reviews and noticed that a few people were not happy with it.I took the chance though.Kicking myself now.The basic stich section is acceptable.The book does show detail on stitches, but so many of them are fuzzy. The pictures are black and white and they didn't turn out well at all.I am not happy with it.I guess it can sit on the shelf and look pretty with the cover that caught my attention in the first place. ... One of my Faves
This is one of my favorites out of about a dozen or so that I've purchased recently. I think it has a lot of cute ideas, and I've made a couple of the projects. I found them easy to understand and follow. I first found this at the library, which is when I decided to add it to my evergrowing book collection.

it is varied, with designes for babies, women, etc' but nothing that I realy would like to make. seems boring. I am sorry for buying it.

A favorite of mine
I have made severalafghans and baby afghans from this book and the instructions are excellent.I really love the look of the completed afghans.Of all crochet project books I own, this one is the one I turn to the most.I bought this book at full price, so the 14.95 price is a steal.

Think outside the box with Crochet Squared
Crochet Squared is an excellent tool to stimulate ones own creativity. The yarns in the book are expensive but half the fun is looking for beautiful, affordable substitutes or looking for yarn sales on the Internet. Choosing the fiber mix and playing with the yarn combinationsmake the designs your own. Ms. Polk's work reminds me of Judith Copeland's Modular Crochet. Pure inspiration!

I bought this book primarily because it's by an African American author--I rarely see people like me crocheting, let alone, publishing a book. I also bought this book because I thought it'd have some innovative techniques I was not privy to.
