4-0 out of 5 stars Marie Barber's 515 Inspirational Cross-stitch Designs
Most are smaller designs and very pretty. These are inspirational designs with some Christian designs. Designs include -Children,birdhouses, small flowers, vases with flowers, tea cups, wreaths, 3 samplers,as well as grapes, crosses, 2 Bibles, praying hands,a church. Seems like you could put together beautiful samplers using these designs. The diagrams are colored and easy to read. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5 is that there are very few pictures of the finished designs, it's mostly just diagrams and I would prefer to have the finished product as well as the diagram.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute and topical
I bought this book thinking it would have more religious symbols and designs than it did, but I still find it useful. Most of the patterns are small, but there are a few large ones. The pattern are done in color, so itis easy to make sure you have the right colors. Good for every one frombeginners to experts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Inspirational Cross-Stitch
This is a must have book. I first saw the book at the public library, and realized that there was no way that this pattern book would be one that I would be content just to borrow for two weeks - I had to find a copy that I could keep! The quality of the patterns is wonderful. The patterns are full color, and large so that they are easy to use. Unlike many patterns books that only have one or two patterns that I like well enough to do, each of the projects in this book are so beautiful that it was hard to decide which one to do first. The low price here certainly makes this a book that you won't want to pass up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspired by Inspirational Cross Stitch
This has got to be the best cross stitch book that I have ever seen orowned. I have never been able to find its equal.I have made about onethird of the patterns in it and plan on making them all.I've given mostof them for gifts. The patterns are easy to follow. The pictures andsaying are just BEAUTIFUL.I can't say enough good things about this book. I've about worn it out and will soon need to buy another. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I've used this book over and over, loving each stitch I've put into the pattern I did.I still love this book.If you like teddy bears, this one is a sure win.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Teddy Bear Book
This book is really a good one.Every page gives me surprise. The bears are all adorable.I showed it to my colleages, they all said the book was really worth the price.Even you don't have the time to stitch, you will be pleased by all those bears. The charts have symbols and are coloured, very easy to follow. The only regret is the book can't lie flat when open, so I can't see the whole photo clearly sometimes (some big pictures lie across two pages).I think a hard cover edition will be better.3-0 out of 5 stars Teddy Bear Treasury
If you are a teddy bear person this is an excellent book to have. It has a variety of teddy bears in several sizes and dressed for all occassions. The designs are in color and are easy to use. However, the book has only teddy bears and many of the designs are too large to use for anything other than wall hangings or on afghan's. Some of the designs have appeared in other books. The designs are well shaded meaning you may use up to 30 or more colors. These are not designs that could be finished easily in an afternoon. This book is for the more experienced cross stitcher. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Pretty Designs
I have had this book for years. The desins are classic and could easily be adapted to other color schemes. LARGE EASY TO READ BLACK AND WHITE CHARTS.

4-0 out of 5 stars some really cute designs
This book has some really cute designs in it.The blue and white scheme may sound boring, but the authors have done a great job of using many hues of blues and other subtle colors to create some beautiful pieces.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is not the best example of crosstitch books available.
slsdaniel1@aol.com from Dallas, Texas, 07/12/98This is not the best example of crosstitch books available. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this book as it pales alongside most others currently available. The execution of the charts is not particularly expert and the subject matter is often trite. Even though blue and white is my favorite color scheme, I could find nothing in this book that merited hours of toil with the needle and thread. Perhaps you might disagree with me, but do not buy this book sight unseen. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Experienced Stitchers Delight
Very detailed patterns but clear and easy to follow.
5-0 out of 5 stars A family tradition
This is an awesome book. The first stocking came out the year I was born, so my mom made it for me.The when they decided to make it a series, she made the next one for my sister. And the for my brother-in-law, niece, and nephew. Now I am making one for my oldest son, but didn't have any of the other patterns to make one for my youngest.I am so glad to have foud this book!It has nine patterns for beautiful Christmas stockings.I wish I'd known about it before I spent days serching for ack issues of the magazines.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is not available to everyone.
I have been searching for this reprint. I came across the notice that said it was available from BHG. I called the 800 phone number and ordered the book. My order was taken along with a credit card number and told that it would be shipped out to me. I waited and waited . Finally one day a post card arrived from BHG. They will not ship to Canada because of the high cost of postage ,etc. This just amazes me, as they can sell their magazines here but will not share their offers. I have ordered and received many other patterns from companies in the United States with no problem. As I am paying the shipping I can't see where their should be any problem. Just passing this along in case their other Canadian stitchers have had this experience. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars This is an "okay" book,
but the projects in it are not what I would stitch...I have found better books than this one, although it does have a nice layout.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must-have" for every stitcher - new or experienced.
I've done embroidery since I was a young girl - that's over 25 years now.I only started cross stitching less than a year ago, so I was eager to find a book that put everything I need to know in one place. That's what this book does.5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Guide
As far as cross stitch references go, this one deserves 5 stars! In the first two chapters it answers every question a x-stitch beginner might think of,from comparing and choosing fabrics to the equipment needed and how to use charts. The third chapter offers endless ideas and tips on how to further develop this skill. I particularly liked the combination of x-stitch with other embroidery techniques, incorporating beads, buttons embellishments in the x-stitched piece and the ways to adapt existing chart designs to create a more personalized piece of art. I consider myself an experienced stitcher but still find myself referring often to this book. Its compact size also makes it easy to carry around. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Contains 40 projects using many of same stitches
This stitchery book is misnamed perhaps? Perhaps not. The title says that it has over 40 small, exciting and innovative projects. What it doesn't say is that many use variations of exactly the same design.2-0 out of 5 stars Designs are.... Yucky
I was looking for some good samples of Celtic Cross Stitch designs. And all I can say is... I didn't find them here. I didn't care for the designs, and the book is really skimpy - they re-use a lot of the same designs with various simple adjustments to make up for the lack of variety. I would NOT recommend this book at all for anyone who wants to do a Celtic project.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Disappointing
I was somewhat disappointed by the projects contained in this book. The title says "Over 40 small, exciting, and innovating projects" and strictly speaking that's true. However there are not that many designs. For instance, the first 4 projects use the same salmon design in different arrangements - with a celtic border, on a cushion, as a sachet and as a card. This is ingenious and useful but if you don't care for this particular design, there go 4 projects out of the book that you don't want to do.I would have liked to have seen more different designs instead of these multi-uses of the same design (the grapes design later on is also shown as a card, a sachet, a placemat, and a napkin, another 4 projects). That said, I still found patterns that I liked a lot and feel that on the whole the book was worth purchasing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars JUST BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS
I have been a cross stitch addict for about 30 years and have always been a Sam Hawkins fan. This book is full of designs that really show Mr. Hawkins' skill as a cross stitch designer. From small simple and easy to stitch motifs, to 4 large absolutely beautiful pieces of fine art stitchery for each of the 4 seasons.3-0 out of 5 stars Fun Designs, but a bitexpensive
As the title suggests this book has four chapters, one for each season. For each season there's a sampler and simple but practical, functional projects and a number of colorful, playful almost childlike designs: scarecrows, ducks, flowers, fruit and angels to name a few. The winter season includes an interesting Santa stocking and some tree ornaments. This book is suitable for different skill levels, but mostly from simple to medium, the charts are color coded, , but I think the price is a bit too steep for the patterns offered. The "501 cross stitch designs" book is more packed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a relic.
If you own other titles by this author and are looking for totally fresh motifs, perhaps you'd better not buy this one: several motifs in this book by Jane Greenoff are no novelty to me, since I already have them in other books by her - such as "The Cross Stitchers' Bible" and "The Cross Stitchers' Bible Project Book". Anyway, I do not regret having bought this one, because the way she treats the motifs is different enough. And having some motifs appear in more than one book can be a way to learn how to adapt patterns to attain different results! Here everything smells of the past. The photographs are gorgeous, very inspirational. And she adds to the past aura by sharing very interesting historical information, like the origin of motifs and life style at the time. The quality of the charts is great as normal in her books - large, well explained color charts. Overall, a very beautiful book that should be owned by everyone who likes needlework - and who likes to go beyond the superficial to find the roots and to really get involved in a project.

5-0 out of 5 stars Different Designs for Classic Cross Stitch
This amazing treasury of crossstitch designs has kept me inspired for months! The designs are in colour and are a great size to work from. The colours chosen for each pattern are excellent. My favourite is the CrazyPatchwork design with the freedom to add your own touches in the finishingstages. Each design is shown with a coloured photograph of the finishedwork, as well as information on stiching. Different skill levels areincluded so that you can work to your own level of experience. Stunningdesigns and great information. My favourite cross stitch book so far!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book of Cross stitch
This book has great projects, especially if you enjoy samplers!I loved the design for a firescreen, the Victorian era designs, and the Navajo tree of life. There are great ideas for using cross stitch to frame photos, tomake a clock, make a footstool, etc.My favorite designs were those framedand hung as pictures. There are a number of samplers- from motif toalphabet.Something for every skill level - simple bookmarks to Hardanger. If you or someone you know likes to work samplers or enjoys antiqueneedlework, this book is quite good.I bought this for a friend who is ahuge fan of Jane Greenoff and then wanted the book for myself!Tastesvary, but if you like traditional patterns, you will probably enjoy this. There isn't anything "cute" (ie, teddy bears....) here, butrather designs that are inspired by antique needlework, tapestries, or artwork.Little bit of background given for each project and lots of goodtips! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Ugliest Projects
Although I found the instructions OK, I have never seen a book with such ugly projects, especially when there are some very nice pictures in the gallery that do not look too difficult.Every since the Carol Wilcox Wells books have come out, the bar has risen.Authors be aware!

4-0 out of 5 stars experience helpful
I like this book a lot and refer to it often; for the first time I was able with its instruction to achieve the 3-row start. However some of the illustrations didn't match the instructions and the more complex drawings took some concentrated study to figure out. I've been off-loom weaving for a couple of years now using different methods, and would hate to be a beginner trying to use this book. The projects are pretty limited too, so a lot of your own creativity is required to apply the method to your own projects. Still, it's the most information I've ever seen on this stitch, which is quickly becoming my favorite.

2-0 out of 5 stars I must agree.......
this book is not worth purchasing for more than $2. The projects are boring and the gallery is small. I would also have liked to see some of the gallery pieces matched with a technique in a project. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars compilation
This book is really good with great illustrations in color on the techniques including netting, peyote, squared needle weaving, tubular right-angle weave, ladder, brick and herringbone stitches, square stitch, loom bead weaving, bead knitting, crochet, tubular beaded crochet, embellishment techniques and knotting. This is followed by good material on the beads and tools . The many projects are also well illustrated with great drawings to help. One caveat though: this book is a compilation from 4 other books which is annoying if you've got them already and if you don't have them, you may not want to buy them either. The four are: Ann Benson, Beading for the first time, Gay Bowles, Beaded cross-stitch treasures, Valerie Campbell-Harding, Beaded tassels, braids and fringes, Gourley, Elizabeth, etc, Art of seed beading and C.W. Wells, Art & elegance of beadweaving.
