5-0 out of 5 stars I have made four items from this book-beautiful!
I was new to wire and bead jewelry making when I got this. It quickly inspired me to make several items of jewelry as shown and they are gorgeous. I am now hooked on this hobby and have, in two months, spent over $1500 on tools and supplies. I have four sets of pliers, a crimping plier, two hammers, a small anvil, numerous beads and findings which I get on eBay, several types of gold and silver wire, and let me tell you, it all adds up. It is an addiction to types like me who need to make pretty things.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good place to start
Although new to beading this book provided some great information on the processes involved.I found it to be very helpful and will refer to it again and work on some of the projects found inside its covers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Are Kelly and Jonathan The Same Person?
Is Kelly Wearstler Jonathan Adler in drag? Or vice versa? Both are wildly talented people, who just happen to use the same things in their work, same colors, etc. Jonathan is an artist, who adoringly references and copycats retro pottery, and makes it unqiuely his own. Kelly is a cool chick, good dresser, has tons of style and can make a pretty room out of old glam junk and ideas. I love them both, and their books are worth having. I wish Kelly had more personal rooms. Too many hotel rooms which are very stagey. In the book she says she didn't like doing set design, yet that's what she does - designs sets for cool people like her to inhabit. Hollywood Regency is the word bandied about to describe both Jonathan & Kelly, he sometimes getting the East coast moniker of Palm Beach Style too (and she the West coast of Palm Springs). I say if you shop on eBay you will see all this great junk (just search Hollywood Regency) that I call eBay Regency. Both books give you a few ideas of how to put it together. Jonathan is more playful, Kelly more serious, but both make wonderful, zany, colorful, retro inspired modern human rooms. I think they bring back the words INTERIOR DECORATOR, so refreshing after everyone and his mother is a DESIGNER (used to be everyone's mother was a station wagon driving decorator with a business on the side). I wonder if these two have ever met, and if so do they like one another, or are they really the same person?
1-0 out of 5 stars Fifteen Minutes of Drama.
This designer clearly aims for exclamations of surprises from viewers. She has an admirable eye for color. But for real class and style, refer to and study truly great and original minds like the late David Hicks, Madeleine Castaing, Jacques Garcia, and the highly intellectual Jacques Grange. Then re-interpret to suit your life and add your own sense drama for a real originality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and a good read too!
Of all the Carolyne Roehm books, this set is my favorite. It had some practical gardening tips as well as the flower arrangements and recipes. If you are expecting a gardening "how to" book, this is not the one. However, the books are beautiful and I enjoyed each one.It gave me many ideas for my own home.I will never have a budget that allows me to purchase 12 dozen roses for one display, however, many of her ideas can be implemented on a smaller scale with less expensive florals. The color combinations were inspiring as well as the examples of matching floral displays to the surroundings. If you love flowers and beautiful table scapes, you will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful book
If you know nothing about resin casting, then this book is for you. Easy to follow projects and beautiful photographs make it a snap to get into the groove of resin casting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leading in new directions
I enjoyed Sherri's art metal clay book so I picked this one up as soon as it came out. She does cover the basic info on resin. Safety and all the important stuff you need to know is laid out a simple straight forward manner. Gives the average hobbists enough to protect themselves and complete any of the projects or some of their own designs with out hitting a wall because of something they forgot to put in the book. The use of mold making to make the Faux jewelry along with the complete guide to making the molds is worth the price of the book. The ideas about using the resin as a cap to other media made jewelry gives one ideas on what one can do with this material. Other than the use of yogurt containers for the mold frames I don't eat that much yogurt LOL.Making the frames for the molds out of cardboard shouldn't be a problem. The use of flexible candy and candle molds gives a large selection to the artistically impaired person for subject matter.
5-0 out of 5 stars The basic keys to understanding layering, casting and other techniques for creating a contemporary jewelry style
Watch for this soon-to-be-published winner: it holds the basic keys to understanding layering, casting and other techniques for creating a contemporary jewelry style which offers a seasoned, vintage look. From producing a stretch bracelet to working with polymar clay and creating the look of faux carnelian using the appropriate colors combined with old-looking cords, THE ART OF RESIN JEWELRY involves more than just technique: it requires an eye to understanding some of the design elements which separate traditional from modern looks. Resin is the perfect medium for imitating countless materials, but it requires an appreciation for style to use effectively: an appreciation imparted in the fine techniques-oriented guide THE ART OF RESIN JEWELRY.

This book has so many great projects. Who know that Polymer Clay could be so gorgeous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
A quick thumb through told me this book was going to become my new favorite. The projects are quite inspirational and I found myself continuously saying "I have to try that". There could have been a few more step by step pictures, but the written instructions are clear and easy to follow so I can understand why they were left out. I was impressed that many projects were easy enough for beginners, yet there are others that will grab the more advanaced clayers like myself. The polymer clay basic section was short and sweet. That was another big plus in my eyes. I already have a couple dozen books that cover the basics, more basic, and yet more basics. This book is a definite must have for your personal libray!

buy it for your polymer clay friends - while the author doesn't have any projects of her own in the book, she's assembled some killer pieces from some of the best known and loved PC artists into the book of the year. this book was the talke of 2 PC retreats I've attended in the past month - great photos, clear instructions, and interesting new techniques like using colored TLS to created glass and celadon china like finishes ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Gorge yourself on gourds!
What a great book! I took a gourd coiling class and the instructor had this book. I couldn't wait to get my own copy! This book is so thorough. From cover to cover it's filled with information, pictures and ideas, you can't help but be inspired. I was, and now I'm "gourding" like crazy!

This is a great book for beginners such as myself. It gives good project ideas and instruction to complete projects. Also a goodsection on gourd history.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gourds? Yes, gourds. Are you sure? Sure I'm sure.
Well, I bought this book because I was bored, and wouldn't you know it, it was about gourds!(It didn't teach me how to rhyme, I learned that in college).I don't really like gourds. They seem so hostile some times, you know what I mean? It's like they know youre going to carve them so they dont cooperate one bit.So now I'm using the book as a little wall that Im using to keep this mouse trapped in the corner of my bathroom. The book is heavy so he cant get out so I just feed him corn and keep him there. The book makes an excellent wall.I looked for a book about walls to use as the wall but I didn't have one.Well, time for my pill.Dipsy-do! ... This book serves as a very good starting guide for beginners. It is so comprehensive that almost all the techniques for surface decoration are covered. It should be unparalleled if further enriched on the glaze part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Guide we've seen so far
My husband and I have been doing pottery for many years and we're always picking up books to get new ideas. This one is the best we've seen in a very long time in regard to variety, unique ideas, and information provided. We highly reccommend it for anyone from beginners to experts.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book includes everything!
this is probably the best & most informative ceramics book i have bought (and i have bought lots!). It gives great detail on every decoration method and even includes some great yet simple glaze recipies! Definitly the book i am most happy with of all the books on ceramics i have. Sure, some of the work used for examples would not be to my taste but the method is there and can be applied to anything you design yourself. On saying that there are also some pictures of really nice pieces, but i guess it covers everyones taste. A highly recommended buy at what i consider a great price for what you get! Editorial Review

Wreaths and garlands take floral decorations out of the vase and into large-scale special-occasion decorating. Fresh and dried florals, greens, fruits, herbs, and other natural materials can be transformed into wall, door, tabletop, and mantel decor to welcome guests, mark a change of season, utilize a bountiful harvest, celebrate a holiday, or just brighten up a room. Hundreds of color photographs and step-by-step directions for well over a hundred projects fill this vast volume, along with a good introduction to materials, equipment, and techniques. A circlet of fresh flowers surrounds a bowl of floating candles; a swag of seashells and grasses graces a window; a ring of mosses and dried fungi commemorates a country stroll; lovely floral wreaths mark Valentine's Day, Easter, and Mother's Day. And of course there are Christmas decorations: a lush bay leaf and dried orange mantelpiece swag; a gold-flecked Yuletide kissing wreath; a lovely Advent candle ring. Complexity ranges from beginner to advanced--from novice wreath maker to expert, there's something here for everyone. Read more

Disappointing. Too much repetition. Not enough examples.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners or intermediates
This book has a lot of great patterns, some easy enough for a beginner, some a bit more advanced. As with any 'pattern' book, not all projects will appeal to everyone, but I found about 80% of them were interesting or appealing enough for me to try.The directions are GREAT!I plan to buy another one of these for my son, who also makes jewelry.I could loan him my copy, but I use it too much!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on bead & wire jewelry construction
This book by Powley and her other one "Making Designer Gemstone and Pearl Jewelry" are the two best books currently on the market on these particular subjects in jewelry-making.Her instructions are clear and the designs (up-close, clear photographs) shown are inspirational. The "look" of the books is not cluttered with too many instructions or diagrams. The un-cluttered content helped me to feel relaxed and to not get overwhelmed by too many instructions.I highly recommend both of her books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to jewelry making!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary insights
This book is remarkable in at least three regards.First, it is so finely produced that we, as readers, can actually feel our way into the gardens it is showing us.Second, the principles of garden-making it offers us are profound, simple and flexible: we can see how the Mosko gardens emerge from them, and how our own might too.Third, and most unusual, it is deeply spiritual, coming from years of meditative practice in the Zen and Tibetan tradtions, as well as in unnamed native traditions of spirit. In the deepest sense this book is beauty as instruction.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Addition to My Fabric Painting Resource Library
I've already collected a number of painting/dyeing/surface design books for working with fabric, and this makes an excellent addition. I don't think it could stand alone as the be-all and end-all, but it is comprehensive in the sense that the author presents all kinds of ideas and inspiration, as well as photographs and instructions/resources. The one thing I might have found more helpful would be greater detail in the steps she took to achieve certain results. Although she does offer descriptions, it seems that sometimes steps and/or details of the process are missing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Explains why
This book is particularly strong on explaining the theories behind the different fabric types and why they react as they do to dyes and paints. Some of the instructions are very clear and good photos of stamps and other printing techniques. I found the finished items and cloth a bit messy - not really my style. But a good addition to the library.

This book is wonderfully comprehensive of the latest methods for embellishing with dyes and inks.I would have liked to have seen other artists results with her techniques, but I find the technical information more than compensates. ... Read more

I paged through this book at the store, and was pleasantly surprised by the clever variety of jewelry shown.Necklaces and bracelets are made with all sorts of things, from Scrabble tiles to colored pencil stubs to laminated dried rose petals to bottle caps.Additionally, there was some great photography of funky jewelry by other artists, including a rosary made of earplugs and a bracelet made with tiny lightbulbs. The projects seemed to range from beginner to fairly advanced, but I mostly looked at the photos, so I can't say much about the text.Usually when I look at jewelry books I see a few good ideas and a lot of stuff I wouldn't want to make, so I was surprised by how much cool stuff this book had.I might go back and buy it. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Too basic for anyone with slight experience
I was very disappointed with this book.It had a few basic steps, but they were limited and the designs offered were not ones I would ever make for me or friends. The best part of the book was the first chapter on materials and tools. There are better beginning books (Bead on a wire) with more tips and design ideas than this.I sent mine back!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfection!
I am thrilled with this book, it really covers everything and the photos are really excellent. I have been looking and looking to find a book like this step by step guide. You really could'nt ask for better. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on the market for bead/wire jewelry making
This book is excellent for beginers as well as the more advanced jewerly artist. This book contains detailed step by step instructions as well as color pictures of each basic - advanced technique. I had purchased Making Designer Bead and Wire Jewelry: Techniques for Unique Designs and Handmade Findings By: Tammy Powley and found this book to be a better bargain dollar for dollar. The instructions are clear and coupled with the pictures to guide you you can easily follow the pattern to complete a project. The projects are beautiful and there are so many useful techniques. This book also has instructions on how to make a few findings. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for a beginner
This book is not for someone that has no background in jewelry/metalsmithing. It is in the Quarto style form the publisher. It does cover what is promised. with short descriptive statements. And good photo's for somebody that has read a couple of beginner books the short discriptions will not be a problem. I own it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not ...very good.
The first twenty pages are interesting because the author take the time to describe the tools and material needed for jewelry making.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Media
Mary Hettmansperger has created a very user friendly book, covering a huge array of techniques and combining them with different products. There is something in here for everyone from beginner through to the more accomplished artist. Certainly will be entered on my list of suggested texts for students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source of woven jewelry pattern
This book is easy to follow. The pictures are great. Instructions make it fun to make these lovely patterns. Thanks

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
I found this book very disapointing.I think it was about 99% metal and 1% fiber, and since I am a fiber artist, I found very little of use to me.I think the title is misleading, and the picture on the cover is probably the best piece in the book.I wish I could return it!If I had been able to thumb through the book before purchase, I never would have bought it. ... Editorial Review

Most people are familiar with the hallmarks of Rachel Ashwell's shabby chic style: fabrics in pastel florals and stripes, chintz sofa covers, antique-store and yard-sale finds turned into home furnishings and accessories. At the heart of this breezy style is a very practical idea: don't buy new--use what you have or can find at thrift stores and secondhand shops and enjoy the old-fashioned charm that only aged pieces acquire. The same idea goes for houses. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Shabby Chic Home
I received The Shabby Chic Home on Friday, and it was such a joy to spend a night with the beautiful and warm-hearted book of Rachel Ashwell, her family and sweer home. Nothing luxuary, only lots of love!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
I look at this book again and again. The colors inspire me, and I seem to notice something new everytime I look at it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Admirable.
This woman is truly admirable. She is financially successful, yet it is clear from the way she organizes and decorates her dream home that she values her family life and simplicity above all. Shabby Chic is not my style. However, I find myself benefiting from her advice again and again. Mostly to help me find my own sense of beauty every time I need to purchase something for my home. This is a wonderfully useful book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not For Lazy Holiday Types Like Me
Admittedly, I'm a big holiday geek, and I thought I'd save some of the inevitable end-of-the-year indulgences in new decorations by actually making stuff myself.Cool stuff, with nails and tree branches and things. This book, it turns out, is pretty, but it's more about glue guns and glitter. The crafts are not particularly suited to sharing the creative impulse with children. It's for adults--among whom it seems I should not be counted. But, if you've got lots and lots of time to glue, this is your ticket, your flying carpet, your Great Holiday Testament.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" if you like to try a little bit of everything
This book has a place of honor in my collection of various craft books. It is packed full of absolutely gorgeous crafts that you would proudly show off in your home or give to your friends and loved ones. What I particularily liked about this book is the wide representation of different craft techniques from all (and I mean all) types of needleworks to working with gourds, floral crafts, folk art painting, food crafting etc. My main craft passions are crochet and floral crafting but as I already have many books for these two crafts, I was looking for something that dabbled in a little bit of everything and this book did not disappoint me. The stunning projects will inspire you to try your hand at other types of craft techniques no matter what craft you are most passionate about.4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful crafting and decorating ideas
This book is filled with beautiful ideas and inspirations. It's well laid out and the directions are clear and easy to follow. It does however contain a lot of recipes. If I wanted a cookbook that's what I'd buy.I find many of these wonderful books end up using recipes as ways to add to the number of pages. Many of recipes are nice but I have my own collection of holiday recipes and recipe books. If you like recipes mixed in with holiday ideas, great! If you don't, this book is still worth having as the craft section is super ! ...
