provides minimal overview of few techniques
Almost any other pottery book out there will give you more detail on the techniques of surface decoration offered here.Most of them will also provide you with more techniques and more inspiring photos to illustrate the techniques.

This book is thin, has a few ideas that wern't taught in class. I was looking for a book more about glazing and texturizing then how to cut stuff out of a slab of clay and glue it to your pot.

Well-organized basic book
Iam rather new to polymer clay but have a bachelor of fine arts degree and have done many arts and crafts, most recently being a stitchery designer for consumer craft magazines.I also have a Master's in Education in art and have taught in the public schools.Having said all that, let me tell you why I found this book above the average, even books by other polymer clay masters. First, this book is very well-organized.It gives basic cane making techniques and then puts those specific lessons to use in the projects shown in later chapters.I found the projects to be gorgeous for the most part, and the artist uses fibers, beads and other media with the clay.The projects make direct use of what is explained in earlier chapters.
Great book when used with other PC information
I recently began using polymer clay specifically to make jewelry and beads, and I loved the projects in this book. NOT because I'll be copying her patterns and colors and graphics on my own jewelry as is. I personally don't like some of the transfers Nanetta uses. But the directions are easy enough to understand that you can add your own graphics or use different colors or patterns for your own projects. Also, I picked up several other polymer clay books recently. I find that each book builds upon ideas that I've learned in other books. So this book shouldn't be viewed as an encyclopedia. It does offer some great creative sparks for a beginner like me.

This book has changed my life!!
I am a stay-at-home father of one-year-old twin boys with a military background.I've always wanted my home to have that tasteful look that comes from understated wealth and assumed it required money -lots of it, and that arcane knowledge that separates good designers from mere homeowners.
a classic
This is my favorite interior design book.As a design student I have a bookcase full of books, and this is the one I turn to over and over again.Ms. Gomez's graceful style is refreshing and easy to live with.

OK, but not great
I didn't find this book helpful. Most of her advice, which is few and far in between, anyone who reads interior design magazines or has common sense would already know. What little advice she gave was practically useless--shun "silk" flower arrangements (for those of us live in areas where cut flowers are not abundant and cheap, I found this to be rather snobbish.)--Paint all your rooms beige--but make sure they are "complex" colors like mine--but then she doesn't tell you where to get them. It's Classic Martha!
Even if you aren't a true fan of Martha, you will enjoy her book filled with decorating and crafting ideas that you can either incorporate into your own traditions or expound upon to revise them to your personal taste. Pretty to look at !
I have found that Martha Stewart books are to be viewed rather than used as a basis for trying to make anything because her instructions and recipes are often convoluted and/or incorrect.I just do not understand why, with her vast resources, Martha does not hire better and more thorough editors and testers. Pretty neat stuff in here!
Although, like the rest of the "Christmas with Martha Stewart" books, they are republished features from the magazine, this one is pretty good. You do not have to use red and green every year; Silver, white, and even pastel colors can be used festively.I love the neat snowman article; unfortunately, here in Houston, we don't get much snow! Add crafty touches to store-bought gifts!
When I first saw this book, I was skeptical. I've put together a few gift baskets, I thought to myself. But when I looked through the photos and read through the Basket Basics, I was hooked. The basket ideas are clever and charming. Most of her 'baskets' are not baskets at all: boxes, canisters, laundry baskets, buckets, a bread box and more! A Wonderful Guide.
I find this book incredibly useful for tips in buying things, old and new, for my home. The handwritings in this book are readable, and I am not a native speaker! And it is interesting to see how Ms. Ashwell's taste and eye get more and more refined over the years. I appreciate work by other great interior designers like Jacques Grange and the late David Hicks and my style is not very much shabby chic at all. But for everyday living, I find Ms. Ashwell's advice to be adaptable and elegant. This book does not disappoint.

Shift in Focus to Parties, Away from Home Decorating
Maybe "Elegant Shabby Chic" would have been a better name for the book.The photos are gorgeous.The events the author created are lavish affairs for Hollywood socialites.The reader can find inspiration from these and depending on the budget, create your own event.
Beautiful picture book.
I was in great anticipation of this book because I found her previous ones (with the exception of the Gift Giving one which I have not read) to be beautiful, inspiring and filled with great, new to me, information. I wasn't expecting another book like the first ones and had I, I think I would have been disappointed. What I was expecting, however, was just another beautiful book filled with wonderful images to give my brain a creative spark. And it did just that.

Beautiful examples, but not for a beginner
The photos and historical information in this book are terrific.However, if you aren't already fairly well versed in jewelry-making, you may be lost.There aren't very many "as you go along" photos -- mostly just a photo of the finished piece.If you can follow written directions only, without supplementary photos, you should be ok, but I wouldn't recommend this book for a beginner

This is a very charming book for fairy fans as well as gardeners. The story is told from the point of view of the writer's grandmother and is a lovely story to read to a child or grandchild. I enjoyed it very much.

Great for Teachers
My high school students loved the design unit I taught based on the elements of design by creating accessories with duct tape. Written by a high school student who was also bitten by the duct tape bug, makes this book very relevant to teens. In fact, they got so involved they worked till the bell rang and had to hurry to their next class.

Here a bead, there a bead, EVERYWHERE
It's not necessary for a book like this to start with bead types (bone, coral, African trade).Most who would pick up a book on decorating with beads, like me, probably have drawers full of them and just want to get them out where we can see them.I also don't need to know what tools I'll need to fill my entire house with beaded d�cor, so just rip out the beginning of the book and take me straight to ideas.
