5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
It is really worth to buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to mix colors
I've been reading reviews and nodding agreement... and then noticed that no one has mentioned that Angie gives exact how-to instructions for mixing each of the colors she uses. I've found that very useful. This is an excellent book for teaching techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Her techniques work!
I have many books for polymer clay, but Angie's techniques are among the best I've seen. Her instruction for caning was so well described that I created perfect lemons, oranges, and limes the first time, and all in one evening. She gave me so much confidence that I decided to try a more difficult project.I made the cutest crab tonight.I can't wait to do the other projects in this book.Angie's fish are without a doubt the most realistic I have seen anywhere; so, with the confidence she's given me, I plan to attempt one of these in the very near future. If you are interested in milafiori, I highly recommend this book. After you have completed her projects, you should have developed a working knowledge of this process. I hope that she writes other books.I also suggest that you look at her instructional videos. They are extremely helpful. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT scaled for 18" dolls
How disappointing!I bought this book for my daughter's 9th Birthday. Her dad is going to make her American Girl dolls some furniture & I thought this would be the perfect guide. WRONG!The armoire is only 6" deep. The American Girl clothes hangers are 6 1/4" wide.Tell me, how is that going to work? The doors won't even be able to close!Thankfully my hubby is a skilled woodworker & can expand the dimensions, but if he is going to have to come up with his own pattern this book would have best been left on the shelf. We are very disappointed. My brother-in-law is making the picnic table & my niece told me that they were surprised & how small it is looking.Seems like more than one project is not quite up to the 18" par.Think twice before buying this one or at least find one to look at in person before hand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I really loved this book.My girls wanted furniture for their dolls, but Pleasant Company Products were out of my budget.Using this book, my daughters and I were able to create the simple pieces.
4-0 out of 5 stars good book but----
This is not a book for beginning wood workers.

My son usedhis sister's copy of this book and loved it.He asked for it for Christmas and I bought it and received itsoquickly, I was impressed.I can't wait to give it to him.It looks very impressive to me, also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
The variety of projects in this book and the step-by-step explanations, make it a great resource for beginners and experienced miniature makers.5-0 out of 5 stars This is the most wonderful book
I made myself a miniature drugstore since I am a pharmacist and I had trouble finding things like mortars and cylinders. Thanks to this book I managed to make the most beautiful look-alike mortars with pestles and all, also a little turn-of-the-century (last century, of course) telephone. The directions are precise and you can really get what you are looking for (and I had never touched polymer clay in my life!) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures
I thought that the book had spectacular pictures of dolls, but I found the instructions on how to make the same dolls a bit lacking. It's a great idea book and inspiration book, but I would have liked more step by step instructions. There were some patterns andillustrations of how to do faces and the like, but there was a lot more reading to do than I would like in an instructional book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Reference and Inspiration Book
This book is my bible when I get stuck on how make some part of a doll. The author gives very clear diagrams on many different construction techniques. It's NOT a pattern book or a how-to manual. It's a reference book, meant to give you guidance as you pursue making your own dolls.I love looking at the pictures and find them very inspirational but these are art dolls and like any art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Remember The Borrowers or Miss Bianca or A Cricket in Times Square?Anyone who loved those childhood classics will fall in love with this book. The concept of little folk creating a home with found objects is so intriguing.
5-0 out of 5 stars For fans of the wee folk
This is a very charming book for fairy fans as well as gardeners. The story is told from the point of view of the writer's grandmother and is a lovely story to read to a child or grandchild. I enjoyed it very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reference Book for Miniaturists
If you are looking for that reference book for everything-you-need-to-know about miniatures and how to create them, then this is the perfect edition for you. Everything in this publication is imaginative and very useful for those who wish to make their own miniatures from scratch. The ideas for room settings are unique and there's something to please all ages and generations. I found it an extremely well set out volume and have some new ideas for future projects. Very recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Wow... This book is as good as travelling to Europe and visiting stately homes. The attention to detail is stunning and I loved the ornate rooms 17th & 18th centaury rooms. Any miniature maker who is looking for inspiration and has an interest in history should buy this book.4-0 out of 5 stars Really interesting period dollhouse rooms
This book features dollhouse rooms specializing in certain historic areas including Renaissance (the Tudor dining room), the Colonial dining room, and the 1950's style diner. My favor is the curiosity shop.It is so full of detailed items that you just can't believe it's a dollhouse.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Quality of projects not too great, but very good photos
I was disappointed over the quality of the minatures featured in this book. They seemed way too amateur-ish and uninventive.I feel the author could have tried a little harder in making more creative and sophisticated designs rather than boring, suburban-lazy type she displayed in this book. The designs reminded me of those ugly crocheted blankets you see in the typical housewife or granny's home. It's a great hobby with alot of potential; unfortunately, the only people who take it up have no sense whatsoever of aesthetics.5-0 out of 5 stars a book full of wonderful and creative ideas
i found this book by chance in waldens. i havealways had a fascination with miniatures and dollhouses, maybe because of my modest childhood. however, my interest in miniatures was sparked by the discovery of thisbook. boulton does an excellent job with explaining the miniture makingprocess. as always, the DK company provides clear and colorfulillustrations on making miniatures. i love this book and would recommend itto anyone who is an advanced miniaturist or novice.

I live in the Chicagoland area and was just at the museum today. As expected, the dollhouse is as amazing as it was when I was a little girl.I saw this book in the gift stop.IT ONLY COSTS $24.95!!!Please, please don't pay these people double what the book actually costs!Go to the Museum of Science and Industry's website at http://site.msishops.com/books.html and look for the book at the bottom of the page.I'm sure there's shipping that's not included. There might even be tax, but it'll no doubt still be cheaper than paying these people $50-$60 for the book. What a rip-off!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The World's Ultimate Dollhouse
When I was 7 years old, my mother, grandmother and a cousin of mine went to Chicago, and one of the places we went was the Museum of Science and Industry. Before we went, my mother told me that as a young girl, she had seen the fairy castle when it toured the country before becoming a permanent exhibit at the museum. She told me how much she loved it, and I couldn't wait to see it. I was not disappointed. This IS the ultimate dollhouse. Every time I go to the museum, you can't get me to leave without seeing the fairy castle.I took my own daughter to see it, and now she loves it, too. The last time we went, I found this wonderful book at the gift shop, and was thrilled that now I could look at my beloved fairy castle whenever I wished. This book is a real treasure, with beautiful pictures of the castle. Anyone who loves dollhouses, and the fairy castle in particular, will love this book. It never fails to provoke happy memories for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fairies Live Here!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the castle in Chicago, and can hardly find the words to say how magnificent it was! Still, in the time I had to view it, so many details were missed. That is why this book is so great. It not only displays the castle with better lighting, it gives you a chance to savor all the tiny details you might never have seen. There is also some wonderful biographical information on Colleen Moore herself. A must for miniature lovers, little girls, and dreamers everywhere! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
This is a wonderful book, but I'm a little wary of giving it too good a review. The projects all look great, but I found a mistake in the first project that I tried. If you work the Turkoman rug exactly as the chart, it will not turn out the same as the picture. The border, in fact, will not even be symmetrical (as the picture is).As an experienced crafter, I picked up on this and was able to correct it, but I was disappointed to find the error in the first place.I look forward to trying other projects and hope they are error-free.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring!
Those who say this isn't the "real" doll house are missing the point entirely! The Williamsburg house was specially made because "Thaddeus Crane" and "Emma Birdwhistle" never had their own proper dollhouse, but lived on shelves. The book explains this quite clearly. The one-quarter life size scale is fascinating in itself. Anyone who is a fan of handmade dolls, doll houses, or Tasha Tudor should delight in this amazing book. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad book, but not great
This isn't Tasha's dollhouse, like I thought it was.I got suckered in like many.Still, it is a well presented book with delightful pictures. And the furnishings are Tasha Tudor's.The ideas and elements of the design are well within the reach of the serious dollhouse collector and for that, the product of emulation, it is invaluable and inspiring. But like Coleen Moore's dollhouse, and Queen Mary's, there is a lot about it that are not within the reach of the average person. One has to realize this was not an authentic doll house, but a item made for display for people to marvel at.And marvel we do.The plans shown in there are adaptable. But I would much rather have seen Tasha's dollhouse...the real thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book-illustrations are superb
This inspiring book provides readers a colorful look at the holiday season at the home of renowned artist Tasha Tudor.Accompanying Harry Davis' kaleidoscopic descriptions is illustrations and photographs by Jay Paul. The book is well designed and depicts a wide range of Christmas activities centering on how Ms. Tudor and friends celebrate the season of joy. This is a wonderful gift for individuals who enjoy the art of Tasha Tudor as Mr. Davis and Mr. Paul pay homage to the great artist.Read more
