5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
I highly recommend "Dollhouse Decor: Creating Soft Furnishings in 1/12 Scale" to anyone interested in furnishing dollhouses or just at looking at pictures of how others have furnished theirs. The Forder's book is arranged by periods of style, and goes into a bit of detail about what makes each period's style unique. The projects are designed for all skill levels, from those who work best with a bit of glue and a pair of scissors, to those who enjoy doing their own weaving. Each project is preceded by a symbol to let the reader know the level of skill required.Yet regardless of the level, all the projects are well explained. Yet another excellent volume to add to your Miniature Library. This book also by Kath Dalmeny, is perfect for those wanting to make their own accessories instead of the commercial items available. Lots of very useful templates to take the guesswork out of those boxes, crates, labels etc. Ideal for those who like constructing things!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Dollhouse Book
I spent hours with this book! The histories the author gave onthe dollhouses in this book were fascinating, and the photos! WOW!Once you open it, it's hard to put down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific book
The book's shape is the first eye-catcher - cleverly done! Many photos, drawings, bios and histories make this a great gift which, I can assure you, will be appreciated!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book begs to be opened!
This was a very cool book! The first thing you notice when you pick up this book is that the cover is shaped just like a house, and the book's opening is right down the middle. It feels like you are opening up thedoors to a real dollhouse. Inside, there are full color illustrations ofdolls, dollhouses, and furniture on nearly every page. The details arephenomenal! If you are a collector or builder of dollhouses, this is yourbook!I really enjoyed looking at the pictures and reading about theprivately owned dollhouses and collections that are featured in this book. Some of the more unique houses shown in the book are the Kupjack rooms, thePalace of Versailles, and the Shoe House. Those of you who attendminiature shows or are a member of NAME will recognize the names BrookeTucker, Ned Kellogg, andMarcia Backstrom as miniaturists featured betweenthese pages. This book is a wonderful addition to the collection ofminature hobbyists everywhere. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photos, but *NOT* a sourcebook
This book is filled with gorgeous photos of exquisite dollhouse rooms. However, I would hardly call it a sourcebook, since it doesn't mention the sources for any of the items or materials. Had it contained directions for making the projects, and/or information on where to buy them, I would have loved it.Instead, I'll use the photos for inspiration -- but certainly not as a sourcebook, since no sources are mentioned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Source Book
If you are looking for inspriation, this is a wonderful book. There are many full page photos, all in color, of some of the finest miniatures ever produced. The chapters start with the house itself, then examines each major room found in most houses. This is a must-have coffee table book for all miniaturists. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More Corrections
To further correct the first reviewer, the Doll's House is certainly not a copy of Windsor Castle. It is nothing like it. Windsor Castle is a CASTLE - stones and very old, and big.The Doll's House is an "ideal home" of the early 1020's - albeit intended for royalty and not for your average Joneses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book
With a couple of corrections of the first review, I'd like to make sure that it's known that Queen Mary did not commission this dollshouse. It was the original brain child of the Princess Marie Louise, who spearheaded the creation of the house. Queen Mary was "extremely surprised" but agreed. The initial shell of the house was erected in Lutyen's office, then removed to the drawing room of his house in Mansfield Street in London.
5-0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary dollhouse explored in depth
England's Queen Mary--grandmother of the current Queen Elizabeth II--commissioned the construction of her extraordinary dollhouse (or "dolls' house" as it is referred to here) in 1921, during her own reign. It resides at Windsor Castle, as it has since being constructed there.Designed by Edward Lutyens (famous for his graceful furniture), the house is a reproduction of Windsor Castle right down to the last nail--almost literally.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars LONG OVERDUE!
This book caters for those mini-fans who enjoy authentic finishes and offers many easy to cut plans for counters, sneeze-tops, display units etc. It is categorised into many inspiring sections such as the basics to start with (tools, materials, techniques, lighting and resources) and then proceeds to 5 superb projects - An Edwardian toy shop, Victorian Ironmongers, Art Deco tea room, Victorian bookseller and 1930 Grocer. Do not think that this is only for this time period - there is so much inspiration! Many woodwork items can be used in a modern bookshop/grocer for example. Plans are included for each "shop" with background info to ensure authenticity. How to cut the pieces, assemble them and finish the shop are all included. Load. Its one of my favourite books & well worth the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Book on The Thorne Rooms
This is certainly the definitive book on the sixty-eight miniature rooms in the Chicago Art Institute. Each room is given two photographs along with a description of the room pictured. The book also contains information on Mrs. Thorne and how the rooms came into being. Her artistry in creating miniature rooms which seem more like full sized interiors was amazing and her sense of taste and style impeccable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!
If you've ever visited the Art Institute and wished that you could spend more time enjoying the Thorne Rooms, this book is a way for you to visit them as often as you would like.5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully inspiring!

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Generations to Think and Act Responsibly
Once you begin reading the Green Dollhouse, you will not want to put it down. This book is a refined blend of educational material for children and adults alike. Creativity and art are presented in a very accessible fashion with an emphasis on problem solving. The light and playful manner in which this book is presented complements its role as a resource for learning about suitability. Amongst its colorful pages you will find information on what is available, valuable and possible.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for adults and kids
This book is a delightful introduction to green building both for adults and kids.I knew very little about the subject when I sat down to peruse this book and was surprised at the amount of information I gained. The pictures are magnificent - they're eye-catching and fun and would make this book enjoyable for kids any age.The little "Fun Facts" and "Fun Exercises" that go with most of the dollhouses are great little highlights. The directions on how to build your own green dollhouse at the end is a perfect addition and will hopefully be used by many. This book would be great to have in the schools and used by teachers.Building a green dollhouse following the books guidelines would make an engaging and mind expanding project for almost any grade level.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best miniatures book EVER !!!!!
This stunning book has absolutely EVERYTHING to help you create, not only the best looking dolls house dolls I have ever seen, but also a fabulous bridal salon, and totally awesome little accessories such as lingerie, floral arrangements and even wedding cakes that look good enough to eat!
3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat misleading
This is a very nice book is you are into dolls. There are lots of pretty pictures and good directions. More than a third of it's content is devoted to making doll dresses. If you count the many pages included that cover the bride's accessories(shoes, bouquet, champayne glass, veil; that sort of thing), then I would state that the majority of the book is about the doll. 5-0 out of 5 stars International Dollhouses and Accessories 1880's to 1980s
This is a wonderful book. All dollhouse collector's would benefit by owning it.Not only is it a very lovely, informative, hardback book, it has beautiful pictures with discriptions ofdollhouses and accessories. The layout is great, making it easy to find the item along with a price guide.Dian Zillner has written three previous dollhouse books and one on toy buildings (some have been co-authored by Patti Cooper). All of these books are a great asset to the dollhouse lover's library. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I had Hoped
The book is not very appealling to look at, it certainly doesn't inspire a person. However it has a lot of practical information. A book to put away and pull out when you need to refresh your mind on certain measurements.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for dollhouse fans of all ages.
It is a real shame that this book is out of print and no longer available. I searched for this book for 15 years or longer. I finally found it by describing it on the internet. (I didnt remember the authors name or book name, just pictures and things to make in the book.) By some luck, someone had a copy in almost excellent condition. This was THE book that I based every other dollhouse book on, and they couldnt compare. The people to make in this book always fascinated me as a child and I longed to fill my dollhouse with the family and their furnishings. This book should be reprinted and used as the standard for all dollhouse books! If you find a copy of this book, it is worth the price you'll pay to add to your dollhouse collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic how-to book of miniatures
This book would be a pleasure for anyone interested in doll houses. There is a charming story by the author about how her interest in all things miniature started. The pictures are inspirational. The best part of the book are the full size directions to make everything pictured. There are enough projects to fill an entire mini house and to make the family also.Everything can be made from things around the house or very inexpensive supplies.I have made all the people and some of the furniture and accessories with fantastic results. This book is perfect for the beginning through advanced hobbiest. It's really a shame that it is out of print. ... Read more
