5-0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Research Tool!
I consider this book to be one of the best dollhouse references out there.Every page has color photos. Many of the furniture pieces are photographed individually. Each photograph is clear and detailed. The author is careful to note when a piece is original, antique, or modern.Everything in this book is well-researched and documented. You could carve replica furniture pieces from the photographs in here, they are that good!Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars ONLY for the Real Beginner/Novice
I am a novice, only one small project before but I didn't learn anything from this book. It would be ok for someone who has never done any type of kit work or who is totally unfamiliar with dollhouses and miniatures.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the beginner
This book describes the way to finish and modify dollhouse kits from the die-cut to the more expensive plywood. It clearly describes the ways to finish off the exterior using wood, brick and stone. It gives interior painting, wallpapering, lighting, and floor treatment advice and instructions as well.I found it to be a most valuable book, especially for those who have found it frustrating to work on a die-cut dollhouse. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Get your imagination going with this book
This book has its good and bad points. The best thing about this book is the author's intent. She wanted readers to be aware that you can make miniature objects out of things in your home. Miniatures don't have to be an expensive hobby. She gives lots of great ideas for making all kinds of fixtures and furniture for roomboxes and dollhouses. Many color photos are included although the majority of the pictures are black and white.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great book on the subject
This book is a wonderfully comprehensive set of instructions to make a Victorian style dollhouse, complete with family, servants, and shops to go to. The book includes wonderful step-by-step instructions, which show you exactly how to make the various parts. Exploded diagrams show you the parts coming together, making construction easy, and many wonderful photographs (mostly black-and-white, but some color) show what the finished product should look like.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Collector's Guide to Contemporary Artist Dolls
This book offers an overview of the concepts of "Art vs. Craft" and "Art Dolls". There are 40 artist interviews with many pictures, unfortunatly they are all black and white which is why I rated it low. There is also an artist's diary of the process of making a prototype doll. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must-have-book
this was my first dollshousebook ever, and still is my most favorite one, very claer instructions-foto's.

5-0 out of 5 stars In a class by itself.
The only book that shows you how to createluxurious Colefax & Fowler interiors in miniature. 'The Yellow Drawing Room' is a superb variant of Nancy Lancaster's famous, full-scale classic. If you like stately Englishhouses, this book is a Must. Not a book for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for the Do-It-Yourself Miniaturist
Jessica Ridley has miniatures in her genes. After all, her grandfather was the designer and builder of Queen Mary's Dollhouse.:-)She is a miniaturist and faux painting artist who incorporates her specialty in herprojects, giving the reader alternatives to the usual approach to dollhousedecorating -- namely siding for the exterior and wallpaper for theinterior.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Introduction to Dollmaking
E.J. Taylor's book is a quiet little gem and a lovely and unintimidating introduction to dollmaking. The clear instructions and and beautiful line drawings encourage the reader to attempt several types of dolls including a polymer clay doll, rag doll and a stocking doll as well as others. Simple straight-forward instructions for pouring a wax doll are even included. Anyone considering making a doll would do well to invest $10.00 for this low-key but very charming and helpful book. It remains my favorite on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
If I had to choose one book on dollmaking it would be this one!It teaches you how to make a variety of dolls with a variety of materials and once you have mastered the basic skills you are prepared to move on to make yours original. It is very easy to read and follow. The author chose simple yet beautiful examples of his work and simple instructions even for the beginner. This is a must have for all doll makers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book by world reknowned NIADA artist.
E.J. Taylor has written a useful text for dollmaking. The book can also be enjoyed for the beautiful line drawing illustrations and full color photographs. There are doll patterns to fit any level of experience or talent. The result of making any one of these dolls will be the creation of a very personal piece...and the growth of the new dollmaker as an artist. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Cake Wire?
I loved the pictures in the book, and was looking forward to try to make some of the items. I have searched the internet trying to find cake wire no.22 that the author of the book says is the best wire to use, but I haven`t found anything called cake wire. When in comes to the thread used, I would think you would get a more realistic look using waxed linen cord, as I know some other wicker artists use. I guess I just have to try to find some other kind of wire that can be used...

4-0 out of 5 stars Where do I get the Materials?
Real excited when I glanced through this book.Beautiful pictures and instrutions.Where do I purchase the materials to make these little treasures?CAKE WIRE No 22....says they are available from "cake decoration specialist".No one knows what I am taking about locally, nor can I find it on the Internet.MOUNT BOARD -- what thickness? Is it cardboard, foamboard or what?THREADS -- Twilley's Lyscordett No. 5.crochet cotton.Unable to find locally or on the Internet.I assume it is a 3 ply cotton crochet thread. AUNT LYDIA'S FAST FIVE may be comparable. Book is published in England, I was unable to communicate via the Internet with WickerCollections.com-- Shelia Smith site for sales of Wicker. I have USA Oregon e-mail "barshere@earthlink.net". would appreciate any information or help on locating these products. ... Read more

I was very disappointed with this book.I had expected some wonderful recreations of patterns and designs I had seen in tapestries and photos of Tudor castles and medieval settings but very little of that is to be had here.If you are interested in it, check out a copy of this at your local library before purchasing, if you're still interested go forth and buy, but at least you'll have heads up on the limited nature of this collection. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dollhouse Furnishing for the Bedroom and Bath
This is one of the best books I have purchased as a beginning miniaturist ever.It covers the "nuts to bolts" on how to create just about everything in the bedroom and bath...my only regret...I haven't found a book for the other rooms!I would recommend this book to anyone from the beginner to the pro's.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Most of the content of this book is common sense. If you care enough to search out a book about building miniatures, you've probably already given it enough thought to figure out that you can cut a robe shape out of terrycloth and sew it together for the bathroom, or use sandwich bags for shower curtains.I was very excited waiting for this book to arrive, but wound up returning it.

3-0 out of 5 stars More, please
There are only 5 designs for this book.I am happy to learn that there is a second book available. I want to see more. The victorian store and thatched cottage are very nice. The fisherman's cottage is excellent and really tempted me to buy this book (got this out at the library) I liked the goergian house as well but it lacked a second staircase so there was no entrance into the attic rooms.
4-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat helpful....
I checked out this book from the library and used it for my FIRST EVER miniature project - the Georgian dollhouse. The narrative instructions are a little hard to follow, (perhaps because the authors are British and I am not), and there are only a few basic diagrams. But after a few months of mild to moderate frustration, I had a beautiful product!I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who hasn't done any woodcraft or miniature projects, but for someone with a little experience, the end results can be worth the effort.

4-0 out of 5 stars Neophytes beware!
Following the authors instructions may have you pulling your hair out. There are quite a few mistakes and vague instruction in this book.Read more
