5-0 out of 5 stars Learn various methods of doll making!
Wow! I had no idea one may create dolls in so many various ways! Eloise Piper teaches fabric, modeling paste, and polymer clay doll-making with patterns included in her book. She includes plain Amish children, fancy dolls, wig creating, sculpting facial features, decorating and dressing the doll. She even includes patterns for their tiny clothing! She gives embellishment ideas as well. Furthermore, Eloise has a very delightful style of writing that brings her dolls to life! I greatly enjoy authors like Eloise who present their art in a down-to-earth and humorous fashion. Not only does one enjoy creating the dolls and their adorable wardrobes, but one may count on a chuckle or two from Eloise's light-hearted humor.5-0 out of 5 stars sewing and sculpting dolls
Just received this book today and I can't put it down! The book is the most complete how-to book I have ever seen.Eloise has put the book together from beginner to advanced with a lot of thought for the inexperienced doll-maker.Every aspect of doll-making is completely covered and I would highly recommend this book to anyone !

3-0 out of 5 stars There are better books around...
This isn't a bad book, per se.It's great for someone just getting started with doll house design, who knows absolutely nothing and wants to gain some cursory knowledge of different period styles. For someone like me who has a significant collection of books on the hobby, there was nothing in this book that wasn't covered elsewhere (and with more detail). There are some do-it-yourself projects in here, but nothing exceptional. Many of the examples are of store-bought items.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Patricia King.
As usual, Patricia King offers brilliant alternatives to buyingexpensive, British imports. Her stoves and fireplaces, made from foundobjects and very cheap supplies, are masterpieces. This highly creative book is beautifully photographed and a worthy addition to three others written by Ms. King: 1) 'Making Dolls' House Furniture', 2) 'Making Victorian Dolls' House Furniture' and 3) 'Dolls' House Bathrooms-Lots of Little Loos'. She also made a do-it-yourself video, but I haven't seen it yet. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, A Keeper!
This is an excellent book and I have enjoyed it very much. It is easy to follow the instructions and there are many of them in this book. She does concentrate a lot on English miniatures, these are useful though. She givesmany tips and instructions on how to use everyday items and turn them intobeautiful miniatures with excellent step by step instructions. I was andstill am very impressed by this book. I also paid more for mine since Ipurchased it in a retail store. Buy it Here!Believe me you are savingmoney! You won't be selling or giving this one away, but you will have itworn around the edges from using it so much. I know you will enjoy it asmuch as I have. I plan on using it for a long time there are still so manythings to do and make. I have just scratched the surface. Although this isa 5 star book, I do not like to put that on anything, I like to see theauthors continue to strive for better things. I do thank her for thewonderful work and the clear concise instructions and wonderful pictures inthis book. As I said in the beginning, it is a keeper!

5-0 out of 5 stars A keeper.
Wonderful household accessories from the Tudor through early Art Nouveau periods. The section on making electrified lighting is outstanding. Items shown look like expensive antiques. However, all are made from very cheapsupplies and found objects. Easy instructions and lots of color photos.Complementary books from the same British publisher: 1) Making VictorianDolls' House Furniture. 2) Making Dolls' House Furniture. 3) Dolls' HouseBathrooms: Lots of Little Loos. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good book with few reservations
I've recently begun my first project from this book. The book has progressively more difficult projects in this scale, starting with a very simple room and ending with a very large Tudor house. My project is with one of the more advaced houses, the Georgian townhouse. While I like the way this book is organized, as with most how-to books there are mistakes. I have found a couple of places where the measurments or diagrams don't match or don't add up. But so far none have been too difficult to correct. It would be advisable to spend some time looking at the photos of the house you are working on before building it, especially on the the more advanced projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Fine Book From Derek Rowbottom
His books are so well written...for the beginner to the advanced miniaturist. The book is full of wonderful ideas. It is hard to believe they are in miniature, much less 1/2" scale. The instructions arevery easy to follow. The photos alone are more than enough to get the ideasflowing.Read more

It is a lovely book but I want to caution you that there are no patterns for the furniture. The furniture is bought ready made from Walnut Hollow and the directions are for decorating it.At least one of the items is not available in the Walnut Hollow catalog that just came out. There are directions for making foamcore backgrounds. If you already have the clothing books you may not want this one also unless you need instructions for tablecloths, bedspreads and such.Cute ideas though. ... Read more
