5-0 out of 5 stars Icing on the Cake
This little book is the icing on the cake for anyone doing a dollhouse or just wanting minis to display with a doll collection. So many nifty tips and tricks to create very real looking items from household junk and odds'n'ends, and do a little recycling at the same time. The crafting tips are all neatly catagorized ,so finding specific things is easy. Most of the tips are very cost effective ,and are a treasure trove for anyone with a mini mansion to furnish and a tight budget. It is worth every bit of its' cost; as someone who has been crafting with junk since childhood, I highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Designs are nice, but only if you use Anchor floss
I love the designs in this book. There are whimsical children's rooms, whimsical adult rooms, serious floral rugs, chair and stool designs. However, the artist must have designed these for Anchor brand floss only because when you try to stitch them with her provided DMC conversions, they do not work out at all. For example, in the lighthouse picture, the medium blue and dark blue are nearly the exact same shade from two different color families in DMC, so you don't really see it until you've begun stitching. Then you have to pick the stitches back out. On her pink variation of the rose rug, if you use the DMC floss colors provided by the author, the lightest pink is actually purple or pale periwinkle, and not pink at all. Some variations are shown but have no color keys as well, and may be a problem for the perfectionist beginner. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone
This book is a bio of emotions on growing up gay. It is not a book about decorating dollhouses. The photography is blurred as it is only a back drop to accent the feelings that the writter is expressing.Buy it if you are a book collector, but not as an instruction manual. Ha

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book - A Must Have.
I bought this book not realizing that the exquisite miniatures in it were made from the cheapest findings available and throwaway items. Furnishing a lavish Victorian dollhouse is affordable at long last. The incrediblytalented author/professional art instructor writes with great humor andenthusiasm. Exploded views of all items demonstrate very easy constructiontechniques. No special equipment or training required. Beautiful colorphotos of fully decorated, Victorian room boxes are included. A mostdelightful book on antique dollhouse furniture, totally lacking in theelitism and tremendous expense which are normally encountered on thissubject. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars author's comments
I consider this book a three dimensional scrapbook of life from the late 1950s to the present as seen through pop culture, fashion, music, entertainment and of course, fashion dolls. While Barbie doll wasthe undisputed "Queen of the Prom" other dolls portrayed alifestyle that will never be forgotten. Relive the past or greet it for thefirst time! Enjoy! A. Glenn Mandeville

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Valuable Information!
Glen's knowledge of Barbie and other fashion dolls is superb! This book includes otherwise rare information on all the non-Barbie fashion dolls as well, such as Kenner's Darci, Hasbro's Jem, Creata Lace, the Littlechapfamily, Tressy, and many more.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great book but the kit quality is only OK
I am a big fan of Alicia Merret's work - she is a doll and toy maker and teacher from Britain. The book that accompanies the kit is excellent - although slim, it has a lot of detail on transferring the patterns, sewing the doll together, embroidering or painting the face, and making the hair and clothes. The doll is a nice size (18") and patterns are provided for a lovely old-fashioned dress, hair bow, boots, nightgown and cloak.Charming pictures of some other dolls also appear in the book. However, I found the quality of materials provided with the kit was poor - calico for the doll, which is never as nice as a coloured homespun or cotton, and an unattractive suedette for the shoes.I made the doll out of my own materials at home and she looks fantastic! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Full of ideas
I loved this book!It describes in detail the eight designs featured as the cover states, but it also covers the elements of landscaping for a dollhouse. It gives instructions on how to create hedges and topiaries and has a few pages on how to create plants. With the beautiful color photographs and the detailed plans, I would suggest this book to miniaturists looking for landscaping inspiration.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected
Don't let the name of the book fool you. The book only shows you how to make the specific designs of the various gardens in the book. The directions aren't entirely clear and you may get frustrated easily. The book does not show you how to make things like flowers, trees, and other various things you would think to find in a garden. Instead it tells you more about how to make things like the furniture, how to make realistic looking sidewalks, etc. If you want to make a more unusual outdoor setting that isn't flowery or traditional garden looking this is the book for you....

5-0 out of 5 stars At last a book on miniatures by an expert!
At last Lionel Barnard has written a book on how to build your own beautiful gardens in miniature. Step by step he guides you through the process, giving the reader the best feeling that you too can completewonderful projects with ease. Everything you need to know is in this book ~the tools and materials are all clearly spelled out for you, and thephotography is excellent. Cleverly, Lionel has written this in"English and American" for those of us that live on one side ofthe world or the other ~ a handsome touch! I have been buying and buildingmy own miniatures for years and now there is a book for folks like mewritten by an expert ~ well done Lionel Barnard. I heard at one of theshows that there will be another book by Lionel and his wife to bepublished in the next year or so.... I can't wait. Get this one ~ you'lllove it! ... Read more
