Miniaturist and dollmaker
I found the pictures and descriptions very helpful.Good ideas and easy to follow, even if this is new to you.

MUST BUY BOOK
I was very frustrated when I was looking to but miniature dolls because they are so expensive.I'm a do it yourself kind of person and this book really helped me through the entire process to make my own dolls.The book starts with a description of all kinds of polymer clay and the author makes her recommendations of clays suitable for miniatures.The book has patterns to make women, men, girls, boys and babies.There are different variations for the different periods (for example the position of the breast to fit better the different styles of dresses, the shoes, etc.)It alsohas variations to make the dolls look older.The diferents periods represented in this book are: Tudor, Regency, Victorian, and Edwardian. It comes complete with patterns, fabric guidance and full instructions on how to dress the dolls and how to make the wigs.A lot of photos of beautiful dolls in a doll house setting.Do not get discoreage if at the beginning you don't get good results, the author herself advises topractice until your skills improve.It really doesn't take much. Buy this book, you won't be sorry.

ADORABLE PROJECTS-A REAL TREAT!
I couldn't wait to start on the projects in this book.While I am unclear what the author means by "cheap" flour and "expensive" flour, I assumed assumed she meant bread flour and cake flour, respectively.Whether this was the author's intent, my figures came out amazingly adorable!Although other books provide more details regarding the dough, colors, mixing and storage, this book gives excellent and clear modelling instructions.If you try your hand at this craft and don't get hung up on minor details, you won't be disappointed because the author brings out the child in you.Thank you, Ms. Skodt! My reference for natural dyeing!
I use this as one of my primary reference books for natural dyeing.Trudy has a nice style providing a good framework for beginners to be successful.The color samples on various fibers are excellent. Her percentage of mordant and dye stuff to "weight of goods" method provides consistant results especially since I bought a digital scale. The photos are gorgeous and the text is clear.Bonus is a detailed chapter on conducting a dyeing workshop.

Arty Polymer Clay
The projects in this book are more of a modern artistic Its ok, but not the best
A lot of the projects in this book are very different. It doesnt go into great detail in describing how to make the project. I wouldn't recommend the book for beginners.

Not pleased with the final outcome
I purchased this book thinking I could master this beautiful craft. The book itself is fairly well written, with gorgeous pictures step-by-step. The downfall is that the author fails to tell you that the projects take a long time just to assemble, and during this time, the salt dough becomes dry and begins air-drying itself, becoming crusty, which later causes problems during baking. There was no solution for this. The baking itself is fairly simple, but it takes FOREVER! My gas bill went up a good amount during this time!!! I don't know about you, but I was never able to do one of these projects in the evening, because you have to bake it immediately and for as little as 3-4 hours and up!!! I found small projects taking 6 hours and up to bake, and ended up being all-day affairs. Larger projects require in the upwards of 18 hours to bake! If you can sit and watch your oven for that amount of time, then this is the craft for you. The author states you need lots of time and patience with this. I guess I thought I had a lot of time, but found it wasn't enough. A well written book, but a truely time-consuming craft.

Dissapointed
There is not enough instructions for some of the projects. In one of the projects thereis not even all the things to fill out the tree.On the Advent tree there are only 22 projects to put on the tree and there shouldbe 24.Now the basket ideas are just beautiful and I am goin to try onetoday and see if I can master the project.I was glad to see yourinstructions on making fruit because some of the other books I have, saynot to even try making some of the fruits because they have to be so thickthat they do not work and they were wrong. ... Good but only 20 projects offered
So far I have made four of the projects in this book: a candle holder, a plate, a picture frame, and a candle sconce. There was room for improvement on my part with the candle holder, but everything else came out pretty much the way it should have according to the book. The photos that accompany each instructional step really have with projects such as these. There is also a pictoral index of the ingredients and supplies needed to complete the projects introduced. I love working with salt dough and have been giving dough ornaments as creative (and terribly cheap) Christmas gifts for two years.
