The smooth surface, pleasing shape, and ready availability of the egg make it a wonderful canvas on which to paint, dye, engrave, draw, etch, or batik. This slim book offers basic directions on purchasing, cleaning, decorating, and storing eggs, as well as photos of intricately adorned eggs; although the photos are not top quality, they do show that the degree of detail some of these artists are able to achieve on this small area is at times amazing. Greater depth of detail in the instructions would have improved the presentation, but it does serve as a decent general introduction to the craft for those willing to experiment. Read more

Natural Plant Dyes - Excellent book
This is an easy book to use for anyone who has ever wanted to try dyeing from plants. It has simple step by step instructions that make you want to get out there and start dyeing straight away! There are lots of colour photos with examples of Judith's work and also photos of the plants she has used. Even though this is an Australian book, the plants listed can be found all over the world or subsitituted for local plants. The author has a vast knowledge of plant dyeing and this shows in her book. Great Basics for Beginning Dyers
This book is a wonderful change from all the other dye books because it offers a series of charts that compare the relative 'strenghts' of different dye colors. This can be very important if one is looking to produce fabrics of the same basic color value. (For example, one tablespoon of fuschia does not yield the same depth of color as the same amount of jungle red.)
