Best book on late 1500's Japanese clothing.
This book is currently the best on the subject of Tsujigahana, the preferred style of textile decoration for samurai in late feudal period Japan. Basic instructions for beginners.
This book, one of several that Anne Chambers has written on marbling,contains basic info for a beginner.Being somewhat experienced as a marbler, I found it to be a disappointment and not worth the money.Thereare other books on marbling that I think are much better for beginners,such as "Marbling on Paper and Fabric" by Carol Taylor,"Marbling Techniques: How to Create Traditional and ContemporaryDesigns on Paper and Fabric" by Wendy Addison Medeiros, and"Marbling on Fabric" by Daniel & Paula Cohen. ... Dating back at least a thousand years, stenciling on fabric is enjoying a great resurgence today. This guide demonstrates not only how to adorn fabric with stencils but also how to quilt the designs, adapt them for needlepointing, and make them up into piped or corded pillows or curtain tiebacks. Photos also show stenciled towels, a tote bag, sweatshirts, and napkins. There are some charming florals, lovely geometrics inspired by knot gardens, and a smattering of animals, but by and large the designs themselves are generally superior to the finished products shown here. Novices take note: although templates are included for all the patterns, many of the designs are extremely intricate and will require some practice to cut the stencil accurately. Read more

a great reference book covering many aspects of dyeing.Gives plenty of detail and recipes.

A great book for novice or master textile lover.
If you are the least bit interested in the how to and how not to aspects of dying fabrics of all types this book will be one you will want to add to your home library. Even though I have been doing textile art for ages, even I learned a few things from the book. Great intro to many dyeing techniques, great dye mixology
This book presents a great introduction to many different dyeing techniques using either fiber-reactive or acid dyes. The numerous galleries throughout the book will help inspire you. Read more
