5-0 out of 5 stars A must have book
This book is one of the best on the market for Crazy Quilt stitches. It shows not only the traditional stitches but how to combine different stitches to come up with a new design. It is outstanding, I can't say enough praise about it.It is a must have if you crazy quilt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing collection of beautiful stitches
I love this book. I took out about 10 books from the library and settled on (and bought) this one because the collection is so complete (it's over the top actually). Granted, there are not detailed instructions for each stitch (if there were, it'd have to limit the number of stitches). Also, it is easy to lose yourself in the book -- definitely mark a stitch once you've found it because finding a particular stitch again is challenging. There are so many gorgeous stitches that I did not see anywhere else. If you go through the trouble of making a crazy quilt, you'll want the unique stitches in here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Singular reference for all types of embroidery
Any needleworker - making a crazy quilt or not - will be amazed at this wonderful book. Ms. Samples has clearly invested a lot of time into her research and has presented us with not onlysolid historical documentation but also with a platform for delving off into new uses and combinations for these glorious stitches. As for the complaints that the book has no specific stitching instructions, that is true, but a beginner embroiderer with a stitch encyclopedia should have little trouble since the stitches are grouped and labelled by their most prominent basic stitch, i.e., "blanket stitch," "feathered chain," etc. The only suggestion for improvement I have is that the text portions be printed in a different font. 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have, must keep!
I enjoy traditional quilts and quilting methods, from hand quilting to stitching in the ditch. But I love free-motion quilting and have recently begun learning free-motion embroidery. Coloring with Thread by Ann Fahl is a fascinating and informative addition to this ever-evolving art form.
5-0 out of 5 stars How to create embroidered fabrics
Ann Fahl's COLORING WITH THREAD: A NO- DRAWING APPROACH TO FREE-MOTION EMBROIDERYtells how to use any sewing machine with feed dog drop to create embroidered fabrics. From a student gallery of works by students to step-by-step project instructions packed with color photos throughout and color sidebars of tips and tricks, COLORING WITH THREAD provides a fine new approach to creating enhanced fabrics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellant resource for thread work

5-0 out of 5 stars the lady knows her stuff
I enjoyed looking at all Ann Cox's designs and easy to follow instructions. I bought her book for beginners, and this is easy to follow as well, with beautiful and inspiring designs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Visual Guide for Beginners
This is a wonderful book if you're looking for a visual guide to help you get started. I had never done silk ribbon embroidery before, but I was easily able to create beautiful roses, leaves and stems. The many full color photos are taken very close up so you can really see each step clearly. After you've made a few petals and leaves, you'll see how easy it is to create stunningly beautiful embroideries using only a few, simple stitches. You'll also learn how to paint a background, and how to mount and frame your work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner's Book!
This book will give you every bit of information you'll need to get started in silk ribbon embroidery. The step-by-step instructions and pictures are nearly as good as having a personal instructor!I was amazed by the amount of information packed into this thin book. You'll be able to make dozens of different types of stitches with the information you find here. This book is well planned and (surprisingly) covers even such details as painting in a background for your work!Worth every penny you pay for this book! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Tailoring: Classic Guide
I was looking for the original Singer "Tailoring" Book but evidently they no longer make it, and no one on EBAY is willing to sell it....so I looked into this book which has some great tailoring techniques and photos, but sadly it only covers jackets and not pants and skirts as well like the original Singer book did.sigh.
5-0 out of 5 stars Copy of the Singer Reference Library
This Book is the best Book ever produced in regards to Tailoring with step by step instructions and lots of Pictures to follow. However I was hoping that this would be a different kind of Book than the one I already own. This is a reprint of the Singer Reference Library Book about Tailoring which was published in 1988. I was looking for this Book for many Years and I am glad to know that another Publisher seem to have aquired the rights to the Singer Books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommend!
"Tailoring : The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket" is the BEST book on sewing a classicly tailored jacket - and I have read ALL of them! There are step-by-step pictures and excellent explanations.I found it much easier and more helpful than the Cabrero text. The book explains both the hand couture and machine methods of jacket tailoring. To supplement this text I'd also recommend Mary Ellen Flury's book, "Tailoring Ladies Jackets" along with anything by Sandra Betzina and Kenneth D. King. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment
This bookhas only a few pages of text/instructions.Transfer designs are simplistic and none are illustrated. No pictures; all in black and white.I did give it two stars because it documents the basic embroidery stitches - although even they are not that clear.IMHO - not worth the shipping and handling.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Book For Beginners!
For someone who has never done transfers, nor tried my hand at ribbon embroidary, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this new craft was going to be.It's a perfect starter book, and she even has a flower for"X" in her ABC alphabet, which is Xeranthemum (Straw Flower). Money well spent for anyone who is looking for instructions on "howto" do ribbon embroidary.I am so glad this was my first book, shemade it look easy and fun, and it was!

For sometime now, I have been looking for a way to make my quilts more exciting and expressive.I always admire the exciting elements true artists add to their quilts, but being artistically challenged I never dreamed I would be able to create such pretty quilts.Wrong! After reading Nancy's thread painting book I too am an "artist" and it has added a whole new excitement to my quilting.
