Floral Style
This was the first book that gave specific instruction on how to create arrangements from beginning to end, including set up of work space, necessary tools and how to prepare flowers.It is incredibly thorough inits description.It is written for the laymen and is a perfect starter forsomeone wanting to recreate the magazine perfect arrangements we often see.

Those of you that enjoyed Martha Stewarts book "Arranging Flowers" might want to take a gander at this gem. The ideas are plentiful and exotic. It is a nice break from traditional arrangements, though none are so off the wall that they would clash with your decor. THIS IS TERRIBLE book, NO SUBSTANCE! DO NOT BUY!
Unless you are an extemely avid flower collector, I can honestly say that this book would be a waste of anyone's money. I personally cannot think of a more trite, soulless, and uninspiring topic. An individual might find this book somewhat entertaining for the first five minutes, but then you start to see the redundancy and transparency of the floral layouts.
Very Nice
For anyone interested in White House history, this book is a must!I have enjoyed reading it over and over.

What a lovely book! It is a nice mix of flower arrangements and tips, photos of arrangements in the White House in recent times, and historical survey of flowers and their importance in the President's house. It is interesting to see the floral styles of each first lady. Those women actually exerted a strong hand in the "look" of the florals for their home on Pennsylvania Ave.Read more

Creativity at its best

I added it to my collection
I too checked this one out from the library and promptly purchased it as a reference for my own book collection. I wasmost inspired by the variety of plants the author highlighted for arranging...I hadn't thought about a lot of the things I already have growing in my own garden in that light before.I also liked her descriptions of the composition of the arrangements.

Contains fire hazards shown as arranging advice
It's quite true that this book shows some lovely and varied flower arrangements.But what concerns me greatly is the picture on page 89 of a grapevine wreath with candles burning beneath it on a mantel. THIS IS A BAD FIRE HAZARD.Please, don't follow the author's example in this - it's too high a risk. Dry, twiggy decorations should never be placed this close to open flame. Nor is it appropriate to place a candle, without a globe around it,to be burned in the center of an arrangement as shown on page 86. Even a green arrangement can be dried to the burning point by a candle flame that close. This is Not your Mother's Cutting Garden!

Really fun!
This is such a fun book - the artwork that decorates every page is terrific, the writing style is fun, and while I've only played with a few recipes so far - I can definitely say so far so good!The book opens with an intro to faeries, the flowers of faeries, and essential oils.The it gets to drying flowers/herbs (I actually buy mine but plan to expand the gardens next spring so I might be doing some rdying next summer).There's general info on making potpourri in here like using fixatives to keep the scents etc.Then there's a great one-pager that lists the different plants and the type of scent they have so you can be creative if you want too.The recipes comprise the rest of the book and they have great names like "christmas magic", "dance of the morning nymphs" etc.On the facing page to each recipe is a little text of faerie lore pertaining to different plants that were used in the recipe. The recipes are broken out by season so as you welcome the changes of the year you can make a corresponding potpourri.The results are pretty and smell nice too.

a bit of a waste
the book is just a bit too cutesy, and doesn't really fit in any category.It is certainly not a guide to scent or perfume blending, nor is it a book about aromatherapy.I regret spending the money on it, and plan to offer it used for the price of shipping.

Even if you don't believe in fairies......
This is a colorful little book packed with numerous (fairy friendly) recipes for enchanting creations.Lovely as a coffee table book and also makes a great gift for your crafty friends.I can't wait to try all of her ideas! ... Read more

Ideal beginners book.
Gives a few basic pages on how to dry flowers using several different methods, then progresses to how to store and prepare them for arrangements.The rest of the book it taken up with detailed instructions on how to build a variety of different arrangements in different styles and for different occasions, like Christmas, thanksgiving, weddings etc.The Each double page offers several photographs along with the detailed instructions so you can build the finished arrangement they are showing.Excellent book for those wanting to get a feel for things or trying out a new method or arrangement. ...
