Great for color combinations
This book has a big emphasis on color and color combinations.The front of the book has pages of dried flower bunches grouped by color and the arrangements shown within the books pages all revolve around keeping within certain colors and color schemes to be used at particular times of the year or for certain occasions.Details a variety of different styles of arrangements and discusses texture and style.Photos are used to show arrangements for inspiration for your own ideas there are no detailed instructions to make particular items.There is some detailed information about making flower swags and ropes not found in a lot of books.I would not say this a book for a beginner it might be a bit intimidating but it's a great companion book anyone who wants to be creative.

I purchased this book 12 years ago when I developed an interest in making arrangements from dried flowers. Since then I have bought many more books on the topic and have made hundreds of arrangements, simple to elaborate. This is still my favorite book, and I refer to it often.Despite the fact that it was published in 1987, it is not dated. The section identifying dried flowers is comprehensive and well organized, as is the chapter on choosing containers.The instructions for making arrangements, wreaths, swags and specialty pieces are thorough and easy to follow. helpful wreath book
I have this book and the ideas are quite helpful. Beautiful Book
I picked up this book to see if I would be able to make some wreaths for my home.Having never done it before, it is very encouraging to see the instructions photographed and clearly written in this book.The wreaths are absolutely gorgeous and detailed, andI loved seeing the different types.Being a beginner, I also appreciated the listings of all the flowers and supplies needed for each wreath, which are included in the descriptions. I'm buying it for my daughter, Emily, who has made some nice wreaths on her own.I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about making something beautiful for their home. ... Read more

A useful starting point for the non-specialist
While I must bow to the expertise of the first two reviewers, who seem to have done much more research on the topic of flowers and their meanings than I have, I found the book to be a useful initiation into a subject I previously knew nothing about. I am currently online looking for other books on the subject because I found it so compelling. Think of it as an art book, not a reference.
If you are looking for something to lay on a table & look pretty, you may find something worth buying in this book:The cover is very pretty, and the subtitle, "Myth, Language & Lore" gives a suggestion of depth and sensitivity.If, however you have any intention of cracking the cover in search of useful information, go find something else. Interesting - Very sweet
This is a very charming book with lots of historical facts as well as beautiful pictures and drawings.The history of the talking bouquet is quite interesting, being influenced from several different countries.Lots of specific bouquets are pictured and labeled, including bouquet examples for "Admiring a Creative Talent", "Embarking on a New Adventure", "First Day in a New School/Job/City", and "Support During a Difficult Divorce" to name a few.There are several dozen more.The step-by-step guide to making these bouquets were easy to follow.A wonderful gift book.

Beautifully done - tons of info and gorgeous photographs

Lovely Book
The simplicity of this book is wonderful. It prooves you can live with beauty by just going outside and finding something you love.

Not Impressed
The author of this book is a garden designer not a floral designer, and there is a big difference.To me, two stems of Casablanca lilies by themselves in a vase (page 95) is not an arrangement worthy of two pages in a book.There was not one arrangement in the pages that I found to be anything other than leaves or sticks in a pot or jar.The arrangements were pretty and simple, yes, but the photography was really what this book was about.It couldn't have been about the floral design as there wasn't any.

A beautiful and inspiring book.

It's fun, it's easy - It's Fun and Easy!

Fun and full of inspiration
This is a book that is fun to read and to look at.There are beautiful and amazing pictures of what you can do with everyday items around your house, or, with things you can purchase for very little money.At the same time, the book is full of great ideas to copy or get you started creating your own wild decorations next time you entertain.I can't wait to put water tubes with fresh flowers in my lawn this summer !!

The must have book to achieve realism with silks
This is without a doubt the best book I've found on silk florals.True, it doesn't give you step by step instructions on which flowers to put together, but there are many books on the market that do that.Instead, this book will show you something none of the others will- how to take your arrangement from ordinary and artificial looking to something that appears alive and dynamic.The photos are beautiful and offer the reader a lot of ideas on manipulating the stems and blossoms to achieve a more life like effect.I refer to this book more than any other when working on an arrangement and highly recommend it.

Are you serious about silk flower arranging?
I have many books on silk flower arranging and this is the most exquisite I've ever seen.Robba can manipulate the flowers to appear absolutely real.His arrangements are elegant, and the text is inspiring.If you already know the basics, this book will spark your creativity.It takesarranging silks to the ultimate artistic level.I enjoy it and recommendit.

Somewhat lacking in specific guidelines.
I was disappointed with this book's lack of specifics.I was looking for insight into which flowers should be paired together in arrangements, with specific suggestions.This book simply did not provide enough for abeginner to know how to choose the right combinations.The pictures werenot what I was looking for since I want to do an impressive arrangement fora dining room, and the book showed mainly smaller basic arrangements.It'sfocus was more on exploring your own creativity; I ended up returning it. ...
