Unlike the reviewer before me, I have actually read this book. It isexcellent! It is very clear due to its numerous illustrations andinstructions. Well worth the money.

Poorly done book
Hi.I am not interested at all in this book.Richard Butz is talented,but his books are generally not clear at all.I would highly recommendScandinavian Woodcarving.While the title may be a turn-off, this book isjust for fun carving.Check it out!

Not worth the money if you want more than pretty pictures
Although I compliment the authors for the beautiful things they created, this book was not much more than a picture book of what could be done. There was very little of the "howto" of sand castle building. 'The S.o.B. "take me to the beach" Sand Castle Book' by Lucinda Wierenga, while only a booklet and all black and white images, gives some wonderful tips on not only what you can do, but **how**.

Fun and informative
Breaking free from the typical "drippy castles" and sand bucket designs, the author reveals through photos how he and his family and friends build "monumental" architecture at the beach. Simple tools and instructions inspire you to get out your staight edge and head to the shore.Read more

Contents don't match the cover -
Lovely cover photo.But the piece that is carved step-by-step inside the book looks nothing like that. It's an ugly, gap-toothed face that I sure wound't want leering down at me from the wall. Outstanding woodcarving pattern and instruction book
This outstanding book on small animal carving has strong emphasis on anatomy and hair tracts (the way individual hairs and tufts of hair flow on the animal's skin).Has accurate patterns for both red and grey squirrels(hard to find elsewhere).And the mother raccoon and babies are achallenge for the advanced carver.Desiree has a method of using pencilwidths to control proportions which worked well for me...and her extensivesketches and photos of the live animals make this the complete referencefor anyone who wants to carve these nifty creatures.Patterns aresmallish, which means appropriate sized wood should be easy to find. Caricature carving from scratch
Good reference book as well as good instructions for carving and painting caricature figures.I highly recommend!

Excellent book for learning caricature carving
Pete takes you step by step through the process of carving a complete caricature figure. Each picture shows enough detail to easily follow and the carving steps are frequent enough so there isn't any wondering how he moved from the previous step. Pete emphasizes the importance of carving the head, since the most engaging feature of a caricature is the face. I have most of Pete's books and would recommend them all. If you are a beginning carver (as I am) or an experienced carver looking to try something different, this is the book for you.
