5-0 out of 5 stars Art Nouveau at it's splendid best!
Although the designs in this book may not be for the beginning stained glass artist, the color combinations and whimsy incorporated in them will most certainly get your creative juices flowing!I spent several hours just thinking of how I might take just small segments of some of these masterpieces of glasswork to create my own projects.Although Art Nouveau as a whole "look" may be too much for some people, there are certain aspects of these works that are timeless and would fit with nearly any other design genre.Great book for any artisan or craftsperson in search of marvelous design ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning!
I absolutely love this book. It's definitely not for beginning stained glass crafters, though - lots of curves and intricacies.I'm looking forward to when I have the expertise to use some of the patterns.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lightscreens book reviewed -missing 1950's built artglass.
Gee for this good of an indepth book it's missing some of Mr. Wrights art glass work. It appears to the author SLOAN of the book that Mr. Wright's executed art glass ended in 1924. HOW UNTRUE. What about the artglass in the Southern Florida University chapel? Or what about the Greek church in Madison Wisconsin? or what about the 1954 Beth Shalom Synagogue in Elkins Park, PA....the artglass above the pulpit???GEE GOOD research on the rest of it though.....lots of detail but she didn't do a good job on the rest of it.....by the way a sketch in Wright's drawings was done for the Greek Church in Madison, Wisc. originally to be christian "figurines"...the only sketch by Wright in artglass that was realistic other than his unexecuted "waterlilies" artglass that is known of and printed in color form today on rugs and prints. And gee I didn't even spend time to research this data, it was all known to me as an architect, & enthusiast. I'm also a member of the FLLW conservancy, FLLW Home & studio, Taliesin Fellows, and Taliesin Associates member.
5-0 out of 5 stars great book
This is a very well researched, well presented analysis of FLW's windows. It speaks for itself. The pictures are well chosen and do a very good job of illustrating the books themes and analysis.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not challenging AT ALL
I purchased this book after reading dozens of reviews, saying it was challenging and wonderful. This book is for small children, it's not challenging, and it only explains how to make 2 and 3 mirror scopes, it doesn't even explain the 4 and 5 mirrored scopes. Buying this book was a mistake, and it was a waste of money. This book was supposed to have informative and easy instruction to build complex scopes, I've never built one before, and just glancing at the pages, im grossed out. The bulk of each instruction is about how to decorate the scope, the only challenge is to add stained glass, or make a wheel. My advice to any serious student is to not purchase this, keep looking for something that is more about kaleidoscopes, and less about who makes the prettiest kaleidoscope and how to make the best scopes. That's a basic summary of this kindergarden level book. I would give it no stars, but I can only go as low as 1! This book is a joke, stay away!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative book
I have been making kaleidoscopes professionally for years prior to this book coming out. When I found it, I fell in love.It inspired new creations, yet also returned the excitement of simplicity of the designs.I recommend this book to anyone getting started in kaleidoscope making. Some of the references need to be ignored, butitis worth buying.Nice, easy to read, good images, instructions are easy to follow. One of my top two picks in books on kaleidoscopes (I think I should know cause my library of kaleidoscopes books is now at 15).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great job

2-0 out of 5 stars good text but very poor photographs
This book has lots of good information and fairly comprehensive text, butI was very disappointed in the poor quality of the photographs. They seemto be snapshots rather than professional photographs illustratingtechniques and equipment.

5-0 out of 5 stars In a word:Comprehensive!

3-0 out of 5 stars Heisey Glass
Fair treatment of history of Heisey Glass, a very basic collector book. There were a few actual errors in the index that made it hard to researchparticular pattern.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Real Keeper!
Well constructed and very well thought out. This is a beautiful book in every aspect. The detail is complete with super descriptions, pricing and history right down to the patents. The photography in black and white as well as color is extremely professional, clear and consise. The diagrams are also detailed and reliable. The index is as complete for a super reference guide.5-0 out of 5 stars A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Heisey Glass 1896-1957 is indeed a thing of beauty suitable for display in your home as well as a wonderful reference book.I found this book to be very easy to understand.I am a novice Heisey collector and was able to learn a lot from the pictures and descriptions in the book. The color pictures are very well presented. The black and white photos, catalog pages and other renderings are of good quality and easy to interpret. One thing I particularly like is that there are several ways to cross-reference the glass. The book covers Heisey Glass by decade so you can look up the period of time and see what was made during that period. Each pattern is listed by name, the time period, colors, comments and photos, catalog pages or line drawings and a price guide. There is also an alphabetical index.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Identifying American Brilliant Cut Glass- Revised 5th Edition
This is a must-have book for ABP cut glass collectors. This revision corrects many errors, mis-identifications from the earlier versions. It has exactly the same photos as the previous versions but the print IDs and captions seem to incorporate most of the corrections listed earlier by ACGA and glass researchers in other publications.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable reference information
Bill and Louise Boggess provide the revised 5th edition of Identifying American Brilliant Cut Glass, updating prices and adding even more photos to this glass history and reference. Take it to auctions and antique shops, or along to garage sales, but also read it for leisure: tips include how to analyze a pattern and match it to a catalog or book picture. Invaluable reference information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of photos
This book gives a detailed account of Tiffanys works in most of the mediums he chose. The photographs are gorgeous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiffany - A fabulous Book to Own
This is truly the most fabulous book on Tiffany's works, including many illustrations of works not previously seen. As a Tiffany book collector, I know that Nuestadt's book may have more lamps illustrated, but none have the incomparable colors and qualities as the images in this book. They are truly magnificent pictures (over 400 color plates)on a black ackground and are of the same quality as Sotheby & Christie's catalog pictures. Tiffany at Auction by Alastair Duncan may be a collectors item, but having seen it, most of the pictures in that book are in black and white and do not begin to compare with this book. While the Sotheby and & Christie catalogs display beautiful pictures, they only show what people choose to sell, unlike this book that shows treasures that I have never before seen in any of the books or catalogs that I have collected. But this book has so much more. Almost every lamp picture has a close up of the actual pattern. As a stained glass worker, these close ups are sufficient for you to reproduce the design. The outstanding and superlative index at the rear contains small thumbnails of each work of art in the book with illuminating information and page number shown foreasy access to the item. Actual copies of the Tiffany factory workbooks, similar to Nash's new Tiffany Notebook book, are included in this book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice collection of patterns for stained glass work.
This book contains hundreds of interesting patterns covering the periods of Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, the 1930s, and the 1940s. It is a quite nice collection encompassing a large variety of shapes and varying incomplexity from quite simple to truely eleborate. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gets better with each reading...
As a relatively new mosaicist, I own several hardcover books by the well-known international artists. This is becoming my favorite. I often go to it to revisit a certain technique, or mosaic for inspiration or review, just to find myself rereading whole sections. When you are working on a new project, the perspective with which you read changes to accomodate the current work. The data on the page is the same, but you synthesize it in a new way. Because there is so much depth to the design aspects in this book, its like reading a new book each time. If I had to pick just one of my current books, this would be it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very impressive
I have acquired quite a few mosaic books and written reviews for them on Amazon, and although all of them are useful to some extent, this mosaic book has really impressed me!There are many photos of absolutely gorgeous mosaic designs which follow a more traditional style, using only tiles and not other objects such as rocks, shells, marbles, etc., like you find in some mosaic books. The designs are exquisite in color and workmanship as well. There are many "gallery" items which are examples of professional work, and there are quite a few featured projects with a form of instructions called "Method Tips" which, rather than giving explicit step-by-step instructions, give instructions with advice, suggestions and options for color, materials, positioning, etc.Because of this, and because the designs are rather sophisticated and complex, this is not a mosaic book for beginners. However, truly motivated beginners could get started trying out a couple of the simpler projects.3-0 out of 5 stars Mosaic Workshop : A Guide to Designing and Creating Mosaics

3-0 out of 5 stars Titles like covers on books don't mean a thing !
The big problem with glass art is the way that to many people use the terms from one media to another with out thought and then complain. When they find out that it isn't what it appears to be.
2-0 out of 5 stars Title Misleading
Conventional Lampworking generally refers to soft glass, but this book deals with borosilicate or "hard Glass".Since I wanted a book on soft glass "moretti" I was extremely disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A lovely book for beginners in hard glass
This book is a good introduction to working with hard glass (that is, borosilicate glass, such as Pyrex). It's beautifully photographed and nicely put together.Except as eye candy, it doesn't have much to offer flameworkers who use soft glass (soda-lime glass) unless they plan to cross over to working boro, but that's not the book's fault. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars JADITE IDENTIFICATION BOOK
I LOVE MY JADITE BOOK, IT'S VERY INFORMATIVE AND EASY TO USE TO IDENTIFY AND PRICE ANTIQUE PIECES.I COULDN'T FIND THIS BOOK ANYWHERE EXCEPT AT AMAZON.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informatively examines and showcases Jadeite dinnerware
Co-written by expert antiques dealers Joe Keller and David Ross, Jadite: An Identification And Price Guide informatively examines and showcases Jadeite dinnerware from the 1930s to the mid 1970s. Gorgeous full color photographs are combined with a comprehensively researched price guide to make for a marvelous compendium of Jadite works. Highly enjoyable for armchair connoisseurs of practical art and devoted collectors alike, Jadite is exhaustive, authoritative, "user friendly", and enthusiastically recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book with realistic pricing
One of the things I hate about price guides is the pricing. So many authors price items by what they have and what they want to have.If they have it, it's worth a fortune. If they want to have it, it's not worth anything. The reason for this is simple. If they want to sell something they have the price has been established and they'll ask the price in their book.It they don't have it and want it they price it low so they can buy it inexpensively.Keller and Ross don't do that. They are out there shopping, doing shows, going to auctions and their prices are generally right on the mark. That's a tremendous help to both collectors and dealers. The other great thing about the book is the photos. There are lots of them so it makes it easy to identify the pieces you have or are looking to buy.I like the organization by category which makes it easy to look up itemsIf you're a collector or a dealer this book is well worth the price. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Photography
This book's photography supports the authors narrative message: 1. Glass sculpture is beautiful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sculpture of all kinds and the history of Glass Sculpture in Museums
Martha Drexler Lynn writes with the voice of a fiction writer and the mind of a scholar. She takes us through the issues common to all sculpture over time and then visits 26 museum collections and discusses how sculpture made of glass found its way into those collections. This book will be interesting not only to art historians and scholars but to those interested in how works of art find their way into American museums. Museums studied range from the Metropolitan and the MFA Boston to excellent regional museums.
