5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for both mediums
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The pictures and ideas for projects were new and very inspiring...not easy when there are so many books out on the subjects. A good review on the different types of metal clay and how each can be used. This book is a valuable addition a metal clay and beaders library and well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for the Beaded Jewelry Enthusiast
In addition to providing a very good introduction to metal clay, Irina gives a fresh perspective to the medium in the projects section. Projects offer inspiration for jewelry designers along with practical applications. This is a very nice resource and a welcome addition to my library!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners to metal clays.
I especially liked the comparisions for the 2 major clays out there.Having had a preference for one over the other, I now see that both have a usefulness in future projects I am planning. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Much of the Same Thing
In my opinion, this book was much larger than it really needed to be and therefore more expensive than it really needed to be. I felt like I was seeing some of the same pictures over and over again. I actually looked back a few times to make sure it wasn't the same necklace. The best necklace is actually pictured on the cover, which i guess would make sense. However, I was hoping for more necklaces as interesting as that one on the inside. Many are very nice and have excellent detail, but it actually got boring seeing so many similar items. I wish it would have contained less of the same stuff so that it could have been more reasonably priced. Overall it is a nice book (beautiful photography, nice paper and binding) as long as you don't mind spending that much money. After spending as much on the book as I did, I did not feel I got my money's worth. I can't imagine paying full price for the book. I expected much more for that price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Book!
I got this book as a gift and loved it so much that I bought the others in the series (earrings, rings, bracelets). The photos are gorgeous, full-page color beauties and the detailed notes that correspond with each photo are easily found in the back section of the book (where they don't interfere with the photos). If you love jewelry and love learning about ethnic pieces, you'll enjoy this book. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Book of Jewelry Making
I recently purchased this book and two others by the same author: "The Art and Craft of Making Jewellery" and "Jewellery and Silversmithing Techniques". With only very minor changes, they are essentially the exact same3 book. I think it is questionable to proffer 'triplets' as different books.
5-0 out of 5 stars A source book for art metal smiths
It is as the title implies a complete book for the slightly advance or far along beginner in to the jewelry making arts. Great clear numerous pictures are on every page. Very complete descriptions acompany every picture following the technic or process being described. Being this is a U.S. reprint of a Eurobook some of the items and or tools are not translated it to American terms if you will. Example is a soldering nest which is pictured throught all of Mr. Codina's books. You can see it in alot of pictures and it turns out to be a mess of coiled steel binding wire used as a support for the item also called a jeweler's wig. This is commonly used in Europe,Mid East and the Far East. It is in the small but very helpfull glossary. None of the projects shown or that are pictured are the real far out stuff found in some other books. I own it and the two other books by Mr. Codina

5-0 out of 5 stars Not another tacky project book!
Finally, a jewelry making book that is more than just another tacky project book. This book covers a wide range of techniques and materials. No, you will not master all of these techniques by reading this book, but you will find a wealth of information and inspiration to make your own jewelry. There are projects at the end of the book, but you do not have to make the items in order to understand the technique being demonstrated. This is an inspiring intermediate to advanced book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars When Fiber Becomes Metal
Though not the end all, be all of the technique (I wish she'd come out with a good project based how-to book on the subject), you will find tons of inspiration in the gallery and in the descriptions of the basic techniques! For those looking for a way to add to their current jewlery work or jump from textiles to jewelry, you'll find lots of help here.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Veritable Encyclopedia of Fiber Techniques for Metal!
This fascinating book can't be just read and set aside. Instead the reader finds themself sketching designs then working to duplicate the processes described in intricate detail both in print and with photographic illustration.
5-0 out of 5 stars Inspires new creative ideas and works
An excellent guide inspiring ideas for both metal sculpture and jewelry. A beautiful, as well as a thoughtful presentation of textile history and techniques adapted for use with metals. The photographs are elegant andeloquent in the information that they alone convey. A remarkable bookuseful to both students of jewelry techniques and to masters of metal work.Five Stars to Arline Fisch! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures but sadly lacking in visual directions
I am a seasoned beader and wire worker but have only in the last few months branched off into the wonderful and adictive world of seed beads, but this book just does not have the proper amount of visual instructions even for my newness to the craft. I find my self thumbing through the pages wistfully wanting to do some of the very interesting projects with in, but sadly I have not as yet been able to put one of the projects into use. I esspecialy would like to make the tiny versions of daffodils...someday after a few more classes I hope. If you are a non visual learner and can pick it up from written instruction this book would be great for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Some projects have poor directions
This is a very attractive book with lots of information about forming flowers, leaves and stems. However, I have had several problems with inaccuracy with directions.Point:I have made 7 roses per directions in the book.NONE have come out the way they look in the book.I followed the given directions and the rose was too tight...as were all the others I made.I tried not gathering to tight - same result. I tried skipping some of the contact beads and that got tricky and still didn't get the look in the book. Now,I am simply experimenting with my own ideas and see how that works. But, what a lot of wasted time, thread and beads trying to get it right!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beaded Garden
This book is just perfect. Easy and clear instructions & pictures. The featured techniques and projects are so versatile, that it is very easy to incorporate them into your own original creations. If you are flower lovers, i recommens this book to you without a second thought! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Outdated, maybe?
I got this book from the library and didn't keep it for long. As a wire beginner I found the designs easy to do since there are sufficient instructions in the beginning. The jewelry pieces are very basic, and I noticed that some of them can easily snag on hair or clothing. This will pull the designs apart. I tried making a few links of some of them and found this to be true. I also found some of the designs to be way "un"-designs, I don't find they have artistic integrity. There are a few nice ideas, but I would not buy this book. Maybe it is outdated?

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Insperations
Im a beginner wire, jewerly person and this book was recommened on one of the jewerly lists im on.Im not disappointed I got it by far but it does require lots of practice, love of the craft and talent..Im hoping to aquire more of two of the above for I have the love as the author of this book as all Three.. worth having.Mrs.C.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I found the wire design projects in this book to be redundant when comparedwith the projects available online and in some other books. They are not just similar - they are exactly the same. For one project that I like enough to attempt, the instructions are unclear and seem to be incomplete. After reading through them several times, the only thing that was clear was that I'd either have to figure it out for myself or forget about it. I'm at the lower intermediate level, so this book is definitely not suitable for beginners. There isn't much to get excited about and I'm rather disappointed in this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-organized basic book
Iam rather new to polymer clay but have a bachelor of fine arts degree and have done many arts and crafts, most recently being a stitchery designer for consumer craft magazines.I also have a Master's in Education in art and have taught in the public schools.Having said all that, let me tell you why I found this book above the average, even books by other polymer clay masters. First, this book is very well-organized.It gives basic cane making techniques and then puts those specific lessons to use in the projects shown in later chapters.I found the projects to be gorgeous for the most part, and the artist uses fibers, beads and other media with the clay. The projects make direct use of what is explained in earlier chapters.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book when used with other PC information
I recently began using polymer clay specifically to make jewelry and beads, and I loved the projects in this book. NOT because I'll be copying her patterns and colors and graphics on my own jewelry as is. I personally don't like some of the transfers Nanetta uses. But the directions are easy enough to understand that you can add your own graphics or use different colors or patterns for your own projects. Also, I picked up several other polymer clay books recently. I find that each book builds upon ideas that I've learned in other books. So this book shouldn't be viewed as an encyclopedia. It does offer some great creative sparks for a beginner like me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice book but not really what I have expected,
didn't like most of the projects but still there are some helpful tips. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb guide for Mexican silver collectors
An antique dealer turned me on to this book and I finally bought it this past summer at an antique expo here in Portland, Oregon. The price tag is a bit spendy, but the information within, along with the masterful photogrpahy, makes this book well worth the money.Any serious collector of Mexican silver needs to have this book in their library. The authors give readers an inside look at the artists that have made mid-century to contemporary silversmithing in Taxco what it is today.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mexican Silver's artful insight
The is virtually pure eye candy for any one who appreciates this type of fine craftmanship. I like the over 400 color photographs. This is the best way for someone to get the true feeling of this type of art. I missed some kind of explanation of rarity for some of these creations. This was one of the main reasons I was looking for this kind of reference. Nonetheless this is an exquisite reference book with 272pp and a feast for the eyes. It's worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars MEXICAN SILVER BY MORRILL
ABSOLUTELY A MUST FOR THE MEXICAN SILVER COLLECTOR WITH AMPLE PICTURES TOGO WITH THE TEXT. THE BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN WITH PASSAGES ABOUT THE TRUEMASTERS OF THE TAXCO AREA ALONG WITH THEIR COHORTS. 4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
I was looking for a book on making rings and creating stone settings for them, and this is it.It has been the catalyst for a bracelet, the synclastic ring on Pg 46 for the general shape, and Mount 9 on page 85 with a cabochon of my own cutting. The information is more applicable than just rings, and the techniques for creating mounts has also worked well on my pendants. It has proved well worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed
I was a little disappointed. This book is geared more for the person who wants to make rings from scratch i.e., grinding, cutting, filing, soldering, etc. I was looking for instructions and photos on how to mount precious stones into already made 4 and 6 prong ring settings, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars well done!
I'm very picky about any instructional book that I buy, it can be hard to find good ones, with clear instructions, enough detail and enough breath of projects. This is one that I would recomend. It has clear directions on the ring shanks, setting and mounting the stones. It focus on certain aspects, but also mentioned related items, like working with platium, casting and a few other alternatives. Enough is mentioned that you can get a start with it if you wish, but doesnt croud the pages with out of topic information. The only thing I could wish changed is the "formula" for creating the correct sized settings. This is the only section that isnt very clear (to me). It can use a few more images there, and some more explination, but I think i have it figured out. (its only 1.5 pages out of over 100)

1-0 out of 5 stars Beading Too Simple!
The projects in this book are very basic and unimaginative! My five-year-old child can make them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick & Easy -- and lovely!
The title says it.The projects are fairly simple and the authors have some pretty clever ideas.Tools, thread, wire, findings needed are a standard beginning for a how-to book like this.Usually relegated to an appendix are jewelry standards, such as beads per inch, but here they precede bead stringing, knotting and weaving. How to make and use jump rings rates a special mention. Most jewelry-making books neglect the handy jump ring.Pressed for time to make a quick jewelry gift?Yes, check out this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great jewelry ideas
I have bought many beading books and have been disappointed in many, but this book in no way disappoints. It offers the same information for beginners on findings and needed supplies that the other books do but has an easier to follow format. All (yes, all ..no duds in this book)of the projects are actually jewelry pieces that I would like to make and own or that can be easly altered to better suit the jewelry maker. ... Introducing and descriptively exploring each and every gem covered in the easy-to-use reference, Secrets Of The Gem Trade contains an illustrated summary of each stone inclusive of its history and general information, hue and tone, saturation, which may be noticed as the finest, an understanding of the particular gems rarity, and the caution for synthetics and how to depict them, however dependant upon the stone there may be description of clarity, color fading, multi-color effect, etc. Secrets Of The Gem Trade is very highly recommended to anyone interested in gemology as a superbly organized, authoritative, comprehensive, and easy-to-follow reference.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Surprise
This book doesn't contain the type of information I thought I wanted. But the more I read a section here & there searching for gem valuations, I discovered that this book is much better than a price guide (especially since I also bought "Jewelry & Gems The Buying Guide" by Matlins)- it's a history of colored gems, the regions in which they're mined, past & present, and a treasure trove of obscure yet relevant information, some of which I'm sure many jewellers are unaware. It's a lttle pricey but for someone with a genuine interest in gemstones, I think it's probably money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book I was searching for.
In Secrets of the Gem Trade (The Connoisseur's Guide to Precious Gemstones) Richard Wise leads you through the swamps of the gem trade.
