5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I got this book as a birthday present and couldn't be more pleased. I taught myself how to knit and this book has helped me refine my skills without have a large book to carry around. I am hoping to get the big Vogue book soon but this has been great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy Knitting
I bought this because I wanted diagrams of how to KFB and SSK.At first I did not like that the diagrams are not directly correlated to the standard abbreviations (instead there is a section on increasing and the various methods, decreasing and the various methods etc...).However, now that I am used to it, it is very helpful. It may not be a good book for an a beginner to start with, but once you are beyond the basics it is good.It is one of the few books that is straight forward, no frills, and covers basic technique clearly with NO useless little cute projects (a plus in my opinion because there are so many other great books for that).I would have like more on knitting in the round, especially with color, but I think that would be rare to find in any book. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars good LITTLE refernce book
It is what it claims, a good little quick reference book to fit in your knitting bag. However, if you need more, the exact same content down to the grafics, photos and text can be found in the older version of "Vogue Knitting the ultimate kitting book" isbn 0-394-57186-X (blue hardcover) which has a lot more information and it is easier to read, because the pictures and text are larger. It is also priced well and available used.

3-0 out of 5 stars I would not buy this book again
I'm not a big fan of this book, really. Here's why:
4-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner's book!
I've tried to learn how to knit over the years from 3 very experienced knitter with no success.I gave up and just settled with crocheting with lots of success. Then I found this book in my storage and decided to give knitting one last try. After sitting down with it for a weekend, I've now learn the basic stitches and am working on the baby blanket pattern!(I'm not doing the color work though, just the blanket with the heart design.)I've even tried most of the basic patterns with great success as well.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best for those with some experience and children to knit for
I really enjoy the way Debbie Bliss's How to Knit is set up like a knitting course with each chapter building on the next. The book is a series of workshops covering a comprehensive list of knitting areas -basics, simple stitch patterns, Aran stitches, color work, lace, entrelac, decorative details, designing, and finishing.

This is a very interesting book, and there is knowledge in this book that makes the reader very much aware of how the patterns evolved, and when.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dazzled by this book!
This is not just another knitting book - it opens up a wealth of creative possibilities. The basic instructions are clear, and I am sure that once these are mastered, the sky is the limit for aspiring knit designers. The colour photography is absolutely gorgeous, showing how all rules are made to be broken, both in colour placing and yarn types. I look forward to the arrival of my double pointed needles, so that I can wade into my yarn stash and commence the creation of some dazzling garments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
I love every pattern in this book. The designs are unlike any other, very geometric and bold.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dazzling knits--color duds
This is an exciting technique, and the book does provide knitting order and assembly instructions and drawings.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Funny!
I remember some of these patterns! This one will make you thankful for the "tasteful" designs of today.I use this in my knitting and crochet classes - just to illustrate what we WON'T be making!Stitchy's great sense of humor just rolls off the page - I made the mistake of reading it while getting my toenails painted - I was asked to stop reading because I was laughing so hard!Yes, there are no patterns (except for two "tastefully tacky" designs in the back) - the point is - we want to put a stop to this insanity!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect InterSTITCHial
Wouldn't it be the cat's pajamas to be able to mend your threadbare spirits inside those mini-moments between those long darn stretches of your stressful day? This book will do it.Without a word wasted, Stitchy McYarnpants will knit you a new one in no time. Each page presents photographic evidence of some disastrous pairing of good ol' 70s acrylic yarn and criminally depraved creativity. The photos alone will throw you into fits of laughter. The commentary will cause you to lose any control of bodily function.Wear a diaper!

5-0 out of 5 stars Laughter and knitting - the best medicines

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book...beware the toe up stocking
I love this book. The illustrations are beautiful and I look forward to making many of the projects.I am currently taking a "Christmas Stocking" class at my local yarn shop.I decided on the snowflake stocking pattern. The "toe up" method is wonderful once completed, however, the instructions were somewhat confusing.Having said this, I would still make this stocking again. My next project will be the felted ornaments and as a self-proclaimed "Christmas nut" I am sure there will be many gifts resulting from this book as well. Thanks so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
This is, by far, the best knitting book I own. The instructions are very clear and in plain english. The back section explains each stitch very simply. The authors offer lots of personal tips on each project. The book, itself, is beautiful. The pictures are crisp and admirable, the set up is intuitive. I love the way it breaks the projects down into the amount of time it will take to complete each one. I have flipped through some other holiday knitting books, and the same old predictable Santa intarsia is featured in each one. These designs are classic and perfect for gift giving.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I have purchased
I just received this book.I have many, many books on knitting. Most of the books have a few patterns that I would consider, but this book...I wish I had received it earlier because I want to make every pattern. It is the first book that I have received where I will find time to make everything. I have a pretty good idea what everybody on my list is getting next Christmas. If you want something that has some different ideas in knitting, plus cute, different standbys, get this book. ... Since I already own every scarf and shawl knitting book available, I didn't expect to find anything new in this book, but WOW! The designs are truly beautiful, combining colors and textures in a wonderful way.I would love to knit almost every design in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Got me Knitting Again
I really enjoyed this book and credit it with reviving my interest in knitting. After reading the numerous reviews here, I knew it would be worth the purchase price and I bought it for the toe-up sock pattern.Wendy wrote that section in such a way that I can now take measurements and make socks for anyone and they look good and they fit.The short row toe and heel were a nice discovery for me.I also took her advice on yarn selection (superwash for socks) and needles (Brittany Birch) and have enjoyed those purchases as well.Additionally, I liked the fact that Wendy's book features normal sized women wearing her designs in the book so that I can get a realistic idea of how they will look on the average woman.I appreciate that approach and know that the patterns will reflect the same thoughtfulness.I look forward to knitting more things in the real world with Wendy.I would like to have given this a rating of 4+ stars, which wasn't available since I'm reserving 5 stars for things that one just can't live without. This book is a good solid purchase and you will get a lot out of it if you like to knit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I bought this for the purpose of learning some new dye techniques and fell in love with the sock patterns at the same time! This book is fantastic and really well organized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational for the spinner and/or knitter!
I am an avid spinner and knitter, and this book just gets my creative juices flowing! Even just to sit down and browse, you'll want to own a copy. And even if you only knit, you'll love this creative book of how these ladies use color, and their explanation of the process of dying wool to spin into yarn. Fun book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical inspiration for all fiber artists
The Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook is a delight from beginning to end. It takes one subject, socks, and leads the reader through the process of creating them from unspun wool through dyeing and spinning to knitting. In the process, no standard knitting patterns are given. Instead, Lynne Vogel illustrates the techniques needed to create beautiful, hand-dyed yarns, and provides the basic patterns from which all socks are made. This is a book for those who work with fibers because they want to do the work of creating form and pattern with wool and color. By focussing just on socks, the author has offered techniques and ways of thinking that are inspirational to all aspects of dyeing, spinning, knitting, and weaving. (By the way, it also has the clearest instructions for knitting a basic pair of socks that I have ever seen.) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too many animals and blankets
I bought the book because I liked the title but was very disappointed. The book has too many animals and baby blankets and few reallyclothes for children. The title promises more. I have knitted one of the sweaters, but I am not inspired to knit anymore from this book. The layout could have been good if the drawings had been better. Grete

5-0 out of 5 stars More than five stars!
This is by far the best children's knitting book I've seen in a long time. My three-year-old son wants every boy's sweater in the book and trust me, he's never taken an interest in my knitting before. And why wouldn't he want them when one sweater has a dinosaur, one a truck, and the other a dog? And the little girl sweaters are equally wonderful (the dress on the cover is actually my least favorite).
4-0 out of 5 stars I loved working the dress and hat on the cover
My 4 year-old loves it -- though it is a little on the heavy side using cotton.I really love that this book contains such a nice variety (wearable things, blankies, accessories) and they are grouped, so if you want to make a FABulous gift you can make everything in the group. or, just one thing is lovely as well.My only complaint - I wish the book gave actual measurements (e.g. rib to waist should be x inches, etc) it makes things fit much better and makes it much easier to expand the sizes.Otherwise, I love Lucinda Guy's books and just ordered "and so to bed". Cheers. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A good addition to a collection of books on lace knitting
This is a good lace learner's book. The projects develop from very simple to more complex. For each project there is an excellent discussion of yarn, needles, and the pattern as well as the author's inspiration for the project.Unfortunately, the author tries too hard to justify the yarn selection. It's clear she has a friend who dyes the yarn and is trying to showcase the yarn often at the expense of the lace pattern.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, beautiful lace!
I liked this book so well, I ordered a second copy as a gift for a dear friend.I won't always be able to afford the hand-painted yarns to work with, but even just using less expensive yarns will still create some truly beautiful works of art.The patterns aren't difficult to follow, and the results are worth the concentration! I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Beautiful Lace
This is a must have for lace knitters. The only problem I have is that all the patterns are charted. I prefer to knit from written instructions. Many times, both are included, but not in this book. The photos are very nice. There is a nice variety of projects also. Just be prepared for charts. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Must for your Knitting Library
While not as extensive as some multi-volume stitch collections; this book is a handy and indispensible reference. The stitches are organized by type, thumbnailed for quick selection, and photographed adequately. The instructions are easy to follow.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great but missing vital information
I love the beautiful pictures of the stitch samples and learned how to read charts. However, and this is a big however, I was very disappointed to see that there were no diagrams of how to actually do the stitches. The Crochet Stitch Bible by Betty Barnden does both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely little book
This is a delightful little book.It is especially nice in actual use because, while it has a hard bound cover, it has a spiral binding inside which opens the volume out flat for viewing.I also appreciated the photo index of stitches in the front. It permits the user to compare several similar patterns at once. The index arranges selections in sections listed as "knit and purl," "ribbing," "cable," "bobbles," "lace," "fair isle," and "intarsia."

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I have a ton of knitting books and I have to say that this one is my favorite. The patterns are well written and not at all intimidating. This book doesn't take itself too seriously like one of my other faves, "Last Minute Knitted Gifts."I like "Knitting for Dummies" and "The Knitter's Companion" for instruction, so I didn't pay too much attention to the "how to" part of Knit Wit.It appears to me to be somewhat geared toward younger knitters, and also knitters who aren't super-experienced and who would want a challenging pattern (intarsia, for example).
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and unintimidating
I bought this book because I needed something for a rank beginner.I have started the first project, a 500 yard garter-stitch scarf.I couldn't figure out how to successfully cast on and knit until I bought this book.I especially like how it stands up with the inventive easel design.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but sometimes too Funky
There are a lot of great projects in this book for knitters of all skill levels. There are some I truly love, like fuzzy feet and the pixie hat. Then there are some that are a bit scary, like the Freak Vest and the Jelly Belt. I like the information it provides for new knitters. She goes into good, but not excruciating, detail on differences in yarns, needles, and other important tools, as well as instruction on how to knit. It is written in a friendly, easy-going manner that is probably very helpful for nervous beginners, while not seeming like it is dumbed down and too simple for those with experience. It is a pretty good book, even if some of the projects are a bit scary. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
I am an experienced knitter, and this book is one of the best in my collection. The patterns are adorable with added "embellishments" that give the finished product a very special look. The patterns are easy and straight forward.A color picture of each pattern is included.Highly recommended for knitters of all experience levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute animal patterns in simple knitting skills and lots of colors.
If you are looking for cute animal patterns like rabbit, cow, griffle, duckie, etc and trains and boat kind of stuff in simple design. This is the book you want. Just Simple pullover or cardigan set with blankets, hats etc. Frankily, the designs of the sweaters are really nothing special. But it's all about the colors together with those cute motifs. And she gives a little life and texture to the animals motifs. Like by adding an dangling ear or wiggling tail. Good for beginners. Mostly just knit stitch. Very colorful, cute and cheerful for baby. Good range on sizes. She group the book into 3 main chapters by color - pastel, neutral and the brights. The thing I really love about this book is the photos. Very nice, clear, colorful and full or almost full page photos of the knitted products. Perhaps that's what making these very simple and ordinary designs so attractive. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF VOGUES BEST
AS A SHAWL KNITTER, I FOUND THIS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST SHAWL BOOKS EVER.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good collection
Good selection of different patterns - only a couple I would make for myself, but interesting designs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Editors were asleep
The patterns are varied, ranging from difficult to easy.I enjoyed flipping through and getting ideas from this book. However, when I was trying to match my stash to the shawl patterns I noticed that several of the patterns do not specify how many skeins are needed. The format is generally [number of balls] of [type of yarn].For the type of yarn, they specify the weight and yardage for the individual ball, but not the total yardage for the entire project. So without the number of skeins needed, it is a wild guess for the knitter. With missing something as basic as this, it makes me worry about all the instructions.Definitely a rush to press here, wait for the next edition. ... I was hoping to learn more about incorporating corn and corn byproducts into my knitting, but lo and behold, nothing about corn in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great patterns!
I have knit a few of these patterns, and in particular LOVE the angora baby booties. I found the patterns to be easy to follow, but possibly not appropriate for a very basic beginner.I will definitely keep going back to this book.
