A lovely book
This is a lovely book, and one I've used for a long time.I first ran into a copy in a library in Arizona while visiting my mother and brother.I copied some of the designs to try out and found them so satisfying that I ultimately purchased the book itself.It's one of my more treasured tatting books.
Wonderful reprint of early tatting patterns
This lovely book contains a delightful collection of tatting patterns from the 1920s through to the 1940s.Patterns include the wonderful doily shown on the front cover which is almost entirely worked in the mignonette or ring only style, some exquisite baby bonnets, and a range of edgings and motifs, medallions, coasters, and doilies which is too numerous to list in detail here.

Great Book
The tittle says quick and easy.And they are.There are many motifs that can be used as decorations on clothing, or hanging from a tree.If you are pressed for time, and need a gift these patterns work up quickly.There is a good variety for the beginner and the experienced lace maker.I enjoyed doing the Christmas ordaments since I needed several in a short time. As a valuable addition to any lace collector or lace historian's library, this book fits right inbetween Earnshaw's Lace Identification and Elizabeth's smaller simpler volume "A Pocket Guide to Lace andLinens." The very best Lace identification book I've found!

Gives new life to the use of tatting

Pictorial Work in Tatting
This little volume will teach you how to make pictures suitable for cards and framed work.It contains some wonderful pictures of trees with tiny birds and animals and all sorts of small designs which can be used for cards and all sorts of things.I particularly like the snail with the chain curving round and round to form the shell!

TASSELS AS ART AND WHIMSEY
The subject of Passementerie (pronounced: pahs-mahn-TREE) is little known in the U.S. and nothing of significance has been writen on the subject in English until some recent efforts. Tassels are the major expression of thisart form and this book takes up where the historic trade catalogs of the"Trimmings Makers" at the Library of Congress and the Winterthurleave off. It reflects the resurgence begining in the early 1980s of thetaste for things ornamental, and tassels and their kin (fringes, galloons,pompons, ornamental cords [but not "gimps" for these are actuallycomponents of other trims]) are on a great upswing in popularity--if onecan meet the stiff prices. Visually beautiful but instructions incomplete
While the book is historically interesting and beautiful to look at, I wasfrustrated by the lack of instructions on details illustrated in the book,i.e. the neck wraps on the cover.

Tatting patterns galore!
This is a lovely collection of original designs by Janet Carroll.The book contains several very large doilies, a selection of edgings and other smaller items and a large collection of patterns for Christmas ball ornaments covered with lace.
Very nice booklet
This is a nice tatting booklet - it is one of the dover series books, but this is a newer one, not a republished version of older patterns. I like this book because the designs are fresh and unique, and the instructionsare easy to read.There are doilies, edgings, egg covers, and glassornament covers.There are some doilies that look like crochet, and somethat have almost solid centers of chains.I don't like some of them, but Ido like others -- the point is that there are several different styles ofdesigns, and you'd probably find more than a few that you would like.I amnot a very advanced tatter, i know rings and chains and have been tattingfor a year or two, and if I am capable of doing several of these designs,so are many beginners! a good deal

old lace and linens including crochet
I MUST AGREE WITH THE FIRST TWO REVIEWS 100%. BUT I BOUGHT IT ANYWAY, TO ADD TO MY MANY OTHER BOOKS. THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THE PHOTOS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE UNLESS THEY JUST WANT TO SKIM OVER IT AND ADD IT TO A COLLECTION THEY MAY HAVE.

Small and thus easy to carry for a ready reference.
That the author loves linens is obvious from her narratives.There are some tips on care and history that are worthwhile. Many of the identifications are misleading, and the prices quoted are most frequentlyinaccurate. The descriptions, although vague, may be a useful startingpoint for the novice or casual collector, I would not refer this to anyoneas a definitive work, but it is useful as an entry level reference.

Bevy of examples covering many styles but inaccurate prices.
First 28 pages are well-written, lyrical descriptions but not terribly historically informative.While there is an extremely wide range of items shown, many photos are reproductions which lose much in theprocess.Read more
