Wonderful resource for the lace enthusiast!
Ms. Levey presents many types of lace and their application in a concise and easy to understand format. There are lots of excellent close ups of the lace discussed in the book. One of the best craft books ever!
A co-worker checked this little tresurer out of our local library and I noticed it on her desk, the rest is history.Within days I was hooked and had to have a copy I could keep.I have a large craft library of booksthat I turn to for ideals -- Mary Jo Hiney book will be one I turn to manytimes.

Beautifully designed, artfully created and easily recreated.
I first found this book in a local library and had it out for weeks at atime. The pieces are created with rich style and beauty, yet they are notcookie cutter instructions. The free form lines allows for imaginativeuses, but doesn't force one to recreate a beautiful pattern from scratch.It also has some fantastic photography, which also shows some wonderfulways to display the completed pieces. ... Very Pleased
I was looking for a small book "that had it all" persay, and I came across this little books sitting in a used bookstore. I think this is a great book for someone looking to start crocheting, without too much heavy, overbearing history to bog down what your looking to do...Crochet. Boring, uninspired Crocheting
I agree to a point with Lee On The Road about the Nancy Bush book providing a better traveling Crocheting experience, however it provides little information on how to carry the required equipment whilst travelling - and I believe that is something Lee ought to keep in mind. Interesting crochet action
As Happy mentioned,it's good to see the different styles of stiches laid out in detail. However, I will shortly be spending a lot of time away from home, and find the recent travel crochet book by Nancy Bush a lot more pertinant to my own particular requirements.Read more

A must-have for all bobbin lacers
This is my personal lacemaking bible. Especially helpful for those who have little or no access to other lacemakers, it is chock-full of diagrams showing virtually every technique imaginable. There are no patterns in thisbook; it is purely technique. Still, without it I would have lost my mindon several occasions. If you are learning bobbin lace, this book is one ofthe best buys you could possibly make.

A definite must for bobbin lace makers

Lovely book of tatting patterns
This is a book of reprints of patterns from the late 1940s.The patterns are written in longhand with no diagrams but are accompanied by reasonably clear photographs of each item.
A favorite among the Dover tatting books,
this volume has a wide variety of patterns for tatters of all skill levels. Traditional Tatting Patterns features one of my favorite doily patterns (Party-Time Doily), as well as the Pretty Petal Doily and the Fairy Tale Doily. There are also a number of beautiful edgings that are mostly different that what you see in other tatting books, along with baby designs (bonnet, booties, bib edging), a collar, luncheon sets and a cute tatted alphabet. Painting With Thread
Even if you never make a piece of lace in your life, this book is worth the price just for the gorgeous photographs! For those who actually do make bobbin lace, this selection of Milanese patterns is amazing. The use ofcolor is beyond my power of description. What's more, the diagrams andinstructions are crystal clear. One thing the lacemaker should be aware of,though: most of the threads used in this book are Guttermans' silk, and thecolors have been renumbered since this book was published. A delight!
This lovely book is a reprint of patterns from several books from the 1930s and 40s.There is a wide range of items including a huge selection of edgings, some lovely doilies, collars and baby wear and some exquisite table linen.
The Tatter's Treasure Chest
This book consists of reprints of patterns from thread company pamphlets of the 1930's, 40's and 50's.The reprints are well done and clear, and the original instructions have not been altered (In addition to the manypatterns, readers will enjoy a nostalgic visit to an era when luncheoncloths, chair sets, and even roller shade pulls were supposed to exhibit ahousewife's skill and elicit the envy of her neighbors). Lots of tatting bang for your buck
This collection features dozens of patterns from the 1930s and 40s; more than 100 patterns for less than six dollars! For designs created during a time when tatting is thought of as being mostly doilies and edgings, thiscollection is pretty creative. Some of the most unique designs are the babybonnet, earrings and boutennieres. I love looking at the models for some ofthe designs, everything is so vintage. I love this book!
I find this tattingbook very interesting. The book is originally from 1967 and it has many nice patterns, specially I like the doilies. It has patterns for beginners and for more advanced tatters. The pictures is to great help for me since I havn't tatted for very long time, to be excact only for 2 months,and I learned to tat from a website. Still I found the patterns easy to follow except for one and thats "Water Lily". But I will not give up and I'm sure that one sunny day I will manage to do that lovely doily. It's the centre that gives me problems, the rest seem to be very easy. I even went to library to have a look at the book in its origin language, swedish, but it's still too difficult for me,yet..
A lovely book but not for the beginner
This beautiful book was first published in the 60s, went out of print before I could get my own copy in the mid 70s, and then to my delight Dover reprinted it.The original was in Swedish but the translation to English is excellent and there are no difficulties in understanding the requirements of each pattern.
Not much to go on
The instructions include the basic knot, how to join rings, how to join threads. That's it. Nothing on making chains, hints on when to reverse work, how to use two shuttles, what is "one shuttle, second thread" etc. You do need these techniques to make most of the patterns though. So I would say the book is incomplete. To top it off, the patterns are not all that inspiring. ... Read more
