The only rubber molding source
This is the only source I have ever found for non-commercial molding of rubberlike compounds. While this 1986 edition does not address possible new developments in this area (Loctite now sells material which appears to be the same as the Devcon product highlighted in the book), it is the only information I have ever seen on creating rubber parts for the home hobbyist and restorer. The chapter on weights and volumes is valuable, as these materials are rather expensive. The metal casting section is similar to others on the market, and is primarily focused on sand casting of aluminum. This limited focus, skimming over most other methods and materials, limits it to a four star rating. If you want to mold rubber parts though, this is IT.

As a beginner this book isn't for me. The detailed written instructions become confusing and I wish Mary Ann would have placed step by step picture examples with the project for me to double check myself to see if I'm understanding her concept(s). beginners book with a small focus
I purchased this book at a jewelry crafting shop after leafing thru it, specifically for the chain mail instructions in the second half.for anyone interested in chain mail in a jewelry application this book is a good start, contrary to most of the online sources i found that focused on the armor and period specific applications of the art.as for the wire knitting, i do like some of styles but have also seen other books on wire weaving that were a bit better and had more clear instructions.

Very specific
I agree with some of the other reviewers in that this book is not what you'd expect.With that in mind, however, I love the book.It shows a different direction in wire jewelry than I had considered and it is quite an adventure to create these pieces of art. If you want to be a skillful wireworker, then this book is a definite addition to your library.Learning the techniques included here brings a greater dimension of talent/skill to my work and I'm better for it.

My husband LOVED it!
I'm always searching for a new book for my husband's growing blacksmithing/metalworking library. He is an experienced metal artist and already owns most of the books I find. Excellent book
I am new to the study of locksmithing. I have worked a lot with locks and have always wanted to learn more. I read this book from cover to cover and found it very informative. I felt it went into detail a little too much with specific models of locks and key cutters, but could be helpful. All in all though, I did learn a lot and would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get started in locksmithing.

It was good for a blindman...
The photo's was so bad that I am sending this book back to Amazon. What a rip-off, I got this book without thinking...it did not help me in any way, it is not for the beginner, it has no value for the novice knife maker out there.

This book was a big help in giving me ideas getting started in knife making. Book was recomended to me by a Mastersmith out west and it was well worth the money.

How to Make Knives
This could have been a great book except for one thing. Obviously the publishers did not care enough when updating this book to update or even take the time to use quality photo's in their book. I would like to see what is going on in the book but most of the photo's are so awful you can only see shades of grey and black. To let all this effort by Loveless go to waste is a shame!Read more

Pure pleasure and inspiration
Just received this book and only reluctantly put it down. If your creative urges lean towards the unusual you'll not be disappointed in Hansson's tin can art. He shares his techniques and his own 'personal art history' with a style that's both conversational and folksy. You won't be able to look at a tin can the same way after reading this book!

Wiring my Brain to be Creative
Kathy Peterson's book is awesome. I've never made any jewelry and with this book, I feel like a pro. I've made gifts for some friends who couldn't believe that I made them. Peterson has a way of explaining things that is easy to understand and is not intimidating to the novice.
A+ and then some
Experimenting with Creative Jewelry Design was a pleasure.Kathy Peterson blends her years of experience involved with the art of craftmaking and jewelry.Being a novice, the entire book was helpful, even to my sister who has been making jewelry for years.No matter the level of expertise of the person, there were so many great tips and ideas.I actually made jewelry worthy of giving as a gift and I now know what a jump ring is!

This book was written with little more skill than free craft store project handouts, which this book strangely resembles.It's almost as if the author spent an afternoon at her craft store, pulling down the handouts and shilling inexpensive products that will break after one use.
